James Meyer
NEW DURHAM - James W. Meyer, 81, of Middleton Road, in New Durham, died Friday morning, May 3, 2002, at Langdon Place in Dover.
He was born on May 22, 1920, in Rhineland, Mo., son of the late Julius C. and Laura (Wagner) Meyer.
He had resided in New Durham since 1980, having previously lived in Lincoln, Mass., from 1952-1980.
Mr. Meyer was Navy veteran of World War II. He earned a doctorate degree in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree from Dartmouth College. A retired physicist, he was employed at the Lincoln Laboratory at M.I.T. from 1952-1980.
He was a member Emeritus of the America Physics Society and a member Emeritus of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
A former selectman for the Town of New Durham, he was past president of the Friends of New Durham Public Library and a former chairman of the Study Committee for the New Durham Public Library.
He was also a member of the New Durham Historical Society.
Mr. Meyer is survived by his wife, Carol (Hamre) Meyer of New Durham; four daughters, Sue Lundy and her husband, Steve, of Colchester, Vt., Sara Meyer of Minneapolis, Minn., Sandra Lovell and her husband, Ben, of York, Maine, and Sharon Bourne and her husband, Rene, of Williston, Vt.; four grandchildren, Jamien and Eric Lundy, and Cara and Adam Lovell; a niece, Julia Meyer Sheets; a brother-in-law, Robert Hamre and his wife, Eleanor; and several nieces and nephews, Heather, Carla, Robin, Austin and Mareta.
He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Meyer, and his wife, Patricia, of Columbus, Ohio.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, May 6, 2002, at St. Peter’s Church, 90 Central St., in Farmington at 10 a.m. with Father Eddy Bisson, pastor as celebrant.
Interment will be at a later date in the Durgin Cemetery at the family farm in New Durham, N.H.

Maurice Murphy
PORTSMOUTH - Maurice M. Murphy, 70, of 64 Gates St., died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1931, in Queens, N.Y., son of the late Maurice and Edna (Martin) Murphy.
Mr. Murphy graduated from Brooklyn’s Midwood High School and then from Villanova University.
After serving as a captain in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, Mr. Murphy embarked on a distinguished 40-year career in computer systems technology with the Univac Division of Remington Rand, the Mitre Corp. at Lincoln Labs, Booz, Allen & Hamilton in New York City and Systemation Inc. of Boston. He was later president of Information Management Corp., a computer systems analysis and design company in Portsmouth.
A resident of Greenland for 25 years, Mr. Murphy was active in Seacoast environmental and conservation issues.
He is survived by his wife and partner of 38 years, Ruth Hession Murphy; a daughter, Jennifer Murphy Robison and her husband, David, of Charlestown, Mass.; a son, Matthew M. Murphy of Portsmouth; and a beloved German shepherd, Shadrach. In addition, he leaves a brother-in-law, the Rev. James J. Hession of Framingham, Mass.
A memorial visitation will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home, Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, N.H., on Monday from 7-9 p.m.

James Streeter
PORTSMOUTH - James L. Streeter, 81, of 168 Highland St., died on Friday, May 3, 2002, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on April 19, 1921, in Bennington, Vt., son of Mary (Long) Streeter. He moved to Portsmouth shortly after his birth.
Mr. Streeter attended St. Patrick’s School and graduated from Portsmouth Senior High School in 1939. He furthered his education by attending the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Streeter also worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he started as a messenger and finished his 39-year career there in the design division. He was then a self-employed electrician for many years.
His favorite pastimes included swimming, cycling, walking and going to Geno’s Coffee Shop to sit at the "SMART" table with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eleanor (Kelley) Streeter, formerly of Dover; his six children, Cathy, Eileen, Tony, Patty, Peggy and Nellie and their spouses; and was a grandfather to eight grandchildren and affectionately known as "Bump."
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Friends invited.
Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, N.H., from 6-8 p.m.

Eleanor Williamson
WALLINGFORD, Conn. - Eleanor G. Frye Williamson, 90, formerly of Silver Pond Apartments, Center Street, Wallingford, Conn., and formerly of Laconia, N.H., died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Skyview Center in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late James Williamson.
She was born on Oct. 24, 1911, a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Frye. She had lived in Laconia before moving to Connecticut many years ago. She also worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Corp. in North Haven, Conn.
She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Fifield and Leonard Fifield of Wallingford, Jean Piper and Mari-Lu Williamson, both of Laconia; a son, James Eliott Williamson of Meriden, Conn.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lu-Ann Bursch.
Funeral services and interment in Laconia will be privately held. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.

Donald Giguere
BELMONT - Donald E. "Ducky" Giguere, 66, of 45 Westview Drive, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Mr. Giguere was born April 6, 1936 in Laconia, the son of Adelard and Ruth (Brough) Giguere. He was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region.
Mr. Giguere graduated from Laconia High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by the Laconia School District for over 20 years, retiring in 1995. He had formerly been employed at Scott & Williams and at the J. H. Valliere Co.
Mr. Giguere was a member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks #876. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Lochmere Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannette R. (Nadeau) Giguere; two daughters, Donna Alexander of Gilmanton and Catherine Coseno of Sutton, Mass.; a son, Donald J. Giguere of Manchester; six brothers, Robert Giguere of Laconia, Maurice Giguere of Kenmore, Wash., William Giguere of Lakeport, John Giguere of Stuart, Fla., Norman Giguere of Laconia and David Giguere of Lawrenoeville, Ga.; three sisters, Margaret Fanny of Durham, Arlene Little of Lakeport and Joann Price of Laconia; six grandchildren, Therese Colbath, Jonathan Colbath, Derek Colbath, Joseph Alexander Jr., Michael Alexander and Jennifer Coseno; and many nephews and nieces.
Mr. Giguere was predeceased by his mother and father, and a foster brother, George Harris.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 14, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance.
The Laconia Lodge of Elks will conduct a session of sorrow at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14 at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Sacred Heart Church in Laconia; Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at the family lot in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Laconia.

Beatrice Ladd
LACONIA - Mrs. Beatrice L. Ladd, 77, of 33 Baldwin St., in Laconia died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at Lakes Region General Hospital.
Mrs. Ladd was born June 14, 1925, in Franklin, the daughter of Stephen and Angeline (Houle) Martel. She was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region.
Mrs. Ladd was employed by the Laconia State School and Training Center for over 30 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Laconia VFW Auxiliary Post #1670. She enjoyed traveling and bingo, and was an ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene A. Dolloff of Gilford and Darlene M. Hough of Laconia; two stepsons, Roger Ladd of Gilford and David Ladd of Bellows Falls, Vt.; three sisters, Mary Flanagan of East Bridgewater, Mass., Theresa Martel and Lucille Corey, both of Laconia; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Ladd was predeceased by her husband, Maurice S. Ladd, in January 2000, a stepdaughter, Gloria Decker, in 1997 and a stepson, Wayne S. Ladd, in 1991.
Calling hours will be held today, Sunday, Oct. 13, 2 - 4 p.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, Washington Street in Laconia; Rev. George Soberick, the church pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilford.

Barbara Stevens
GONIC - Barbara J. Stevens, 55, of 20 Reagan Drive died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a long courageous battle with cancer.
She was born July 21, 1947, in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Frank E. and Ruth (McCullan) Mabey Sr. of Portsmouth.
She had resided in this area since 1967 and worked for many years at Davidson Rubber Co. in Farmington. Most recently she worked at Palmer Chouinard Co. Barbara was a member of the Cancer Support Group at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.
Members of her family include her beloved husband, Douglas; a daughter, Katie; a son, Jeffrey; her granddaughter, Emerson; three brothers, Frank Mabey and his wife, Dawn, of Colchester, Conn., James Mabey and his wife, Cieneve, of Bull Head City, Ariz., and Richard Mabey and his wife, Patricia, of York, Maine; two stepchildren, Alan and Jimmy, five stepgrandchildren, Codi, Willy, Chris, Jamin, and Morgan; and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main. St., Rochester, N.H. with Rev. William Shafer, officiating. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Franklin Street, Rochester, N.H.

Elizabeth Gray
ROCHESTER - Elizabeth E. Gray, 73, of 11A Madison Ave., died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at her home after a sudden illness.
Born July 6, 1929, in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Aurora (Drouin) Hutchins.
Mrs. Gray was raised in Lebanon, Maine, and has lived in Rochester since 1976. She also had lived in Farmington for 26 years. She was employed as a bench worker lacing shoes for the Encore Shoe Co.
She was a past member of the First Congregational Church of Farmington. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge of Dover and AARP. She enjoyed knitting, reading and watching horror movies.
Members of her family include her son, Randy E. Gray of Grafton; her daughter, Doreen E. Emmons of East Lebanon, Maine; her brother, Henry Hutchins; and a sister, Mary Luneau of Rochester; and very good friends Lillian Perron of Rochester, Shirley Zalenski of Alton and Ann Sullivan of Farmington.
She is predeceased by her brother, Roland Hutchins.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. with a funeral service being held at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.
Burial will be held in the Rochester Cemetery Following the Funeral
Angie Canney
FARMINGTON - Angie S. Canney, 58, of 393 Chestnut Hill Road, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 16, 1943, in Dover, the daughter of Lydia (Cormier) Cummings and the late Harry Cummings Sr. Mrs. Canney attended Rollinsford Grade School and graduated from Dover High School. She then worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and received her journeyman’s and machinist certificate.
After leaving the shipyard, Angie graduated from the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord with an associate’s degree then went on to graduate from the College of Lifelong Learning to earn her bachelor’s degree.
She worked for many years as a real estate agent for Hourihane, Cormier & Associates LLC.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Advent Christian Church of Rochester and the New Hampshire Realtors Association.
Among her interests, she enjoyed playing bingo and was greatly loved by many people. She will be dearly missed. She was a volunteer for Victims Inc. and G.A.P.
Members of her family include her husband of 20 years, Ernest L. Canney Sr. of Farmington; three daughters, Bonnie Ford and Angela Christie, both of Rochester, and Beth Ouellette of Farmington; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Albert Cummings of Rochester; a sister, Ruth Harriman of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Brian Rickard in 1976 and a brother, Harry Cummings Jr.
Family and friends may visit Sunday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.
The funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Emmanuel Advent Christian Church, Eastern Avenue, Rochester, with the Rev. Art Stone, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick, Maine.

Thomas Croke
ALTON - Thomas Francis Croke, 76, of Alton died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at home after a brief illness.
Born June 17, 1926, and raised in Everett, Mass., he was the son of the late Edward and Marguerite (Roland) Croke. He had resided in Alton for 24 years, having previously resided in Wilmington, Mass., for 37 years.
Prior to retirement he was a self-employed machinist. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the merchant marines. He was a life member of Elks Lodge #2070 of Tewksbury and Wilmington, Mass., and also a member of the Rotary Club of Wilmington, Mass.
The widower of the late Dorothy May (Gates) Croke, who died in 1998, he is survived by two daughters, Judith Ann Hillsgrove of Alton, and Linda Susan Galvin of Ellsworth; five grandchildren, Leonard B. Galvin Jr., Kori Lynn Janowiec, Cheryl Ann Lundman, Lance Thomas Croke and Lori-Lynn Cleary, all of New Hampshire; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice Reddick of New Hampshire, Shirley Marshall of Massachusetts and Joan Teza of Arizona; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at St. Paul’s Mission Church on Route 28 in Barnstead at 10 a.m. with Fr. Richard Wegman as celebrant. Judie Golden
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Judie Golden, 52, of the city of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at her home after a long illness.
She lived in Poughkeepsie for most of her life but was also a 10-year resident of Somersworth. She was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., with a degree in pastry arts.
Born Dec. 21, 1949, Judie was the daughter of Shirley Bergman and Theodore Golden.
Survivors include her mother, Shirley Bergman of Sun City Center, Fla.; her father, Theodore Golden of Fishkill, N.Y.; her daughter and son-in law, Lara and Randy Willard of Somersworth; her sister, Barbara Albert of Longmeadow, Mass.; her great friend and companion Alan Papale of Poughkeepsie; a grandson, Robert Willard; and two nieces, Erica and Kira Albert.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 14 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
