Juan “El Bailarin” Figueroa, 59, of Hammonton, died October 22, at home.
Born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, he was a resident of the Hammonton area for 35 years. Mr. Figueroa worked for the Hammonton Highway Department for the last 17 years.
Surviving him are: wife, Iris M. Figueroa; sons, Juan Antonio Figueroa of Puerto Rico, Juan Figueroa of Camden; daughter, Stephanie Figueroa of Erie, Pa.; step daughters, Migdalia Guzman of Hammonton, Wanda Stangville of N.C.; step sons, Danny DeJesus, Joselito DeJesus both of N.C.; brothers, Carmen, Julio, Hector, Fundador, all of Puerto Rico; sister, Carman Figueroa of Puerto Rico; special niece, Carman Figueroa of Delaware; 18 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Richard F. Rieser, 65, of Hammonton, died October 16, 2006.
Richard was a graduate of R.E.T.S. Electronics School class of 1969. He was a lifetime member of the 2nd Amendment Foundation and the NRA. Richard owned and operated a Gulf service station in 1961. In the late 1970s, he worked as a government service contractor, and he owned and operated an Exxon station in Newark. He then worked for Operating Engineers Local No. 825 as an electro-hydraulic engineer for Marsellis-Warner for 12 years before going into sales in later years.
Predeceased by: parents, Frederick and Erna (nee Kline.) Surviving him are: wife, Sallie (nee Valentino); daughters, Sherrie A. Rieser and her husband Brucey Malley of Sweetwater, Kellye A. Martinelli and her husband Gene of Hammonton; brother, Charlie Rieser and his wife Claire of East Hanover and their children Lori and Eric; sisters-in-law, Chris Romano of Florida, Phyllis Allegrino of Toms River, Jane Moon of Arizona, Marty Prince of Florida; brother-in-law, Joseph Valentino of Florida; many loving nieces and nephews; friends and neighbors; special friend, Don Forvour; Fluffy and Smokey.

Ellsworth L. Tallman, 69, of Folsom, died October 21, 2006, at Hannemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.
Born in Archbald, Pa., he lived in this area for many years. Mr. Tallman was the President of Water World Fiberglass Pool NE, Inc. He was a member of the National Swimming Pool Institution.
Surviving him are: wife, Janet Louise Tallman (nee McDonald); father, Ellsworth L. Tallman of Fayetteville, Ga., sons, Edward Tallman of Jonesboro, Ga., Donald Lewis Tallman of Hammonton; brother, Donald Jay Tallman of Griffin, Ga.; sisters, Sharonann Tallman of Fayetteville, Gertrude Ellen Tallman Schmidt of Warsaw, N.Y.; grandchildren, Edward, Ellsworth, Brittany, Tyler Tallman; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Jadyn.

Irene S. Messina, 87, of Elwood, died October 23, 2006, at the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Elwood, Hammonton and the Atlantic County area most of her life. Mrs. Messina co-owned and was a salesperson at the Messina Glass Company in Elwood. She was very active in the VFW Harry Kehler Jr. Post No. 5043 Ladies Auxiliary, and a life time member of the Red Ladies.
Predeceased by: husband in 1976, Thomas Messina. Surviving her are, daughter, Carol Ravelli-Yob and her husband Dennis of Elwood; sisters, Pauline Roesch of Germania, Gen Powers of Mountainside, N.J.; brother, Stanley Kwasnieski of Mays Landing; grandson, Robert T. Ravelli.

Maria Juliana Stewart, 61, of Atco, died suddenly on October 17, 2006, at the Cooper Health Center in Camden.
Born in Germany, she immigrated to the United States after World War II to Philadelphia when she was nine years old. She lived in the Atco section of Waterford for the past 23 years. Mrs. Stewart earned a bachelor degree in education from Temple University in 1967 and was a German language teacher at the Collingswood High School retiring in 2002 after 39 years. She was the recipient of numerous prestigious awards in her field, some of which include the Duden Award, Goethe Institute Award and Martin Luther King Freedom Award.
Predeceased by: parents, Georg and Juliana Schweitzer. Surviving her are: husband, Lloyd Aaron Stewart; daughter, Kirsten Nicole Stewart who is a speech language pathologist stationed at the Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany; son, Jason Lloyd Stewart of Philadelphia; sisters, Gisela Bresser and her husband Michael of Sun City, Ariz., Margaret Graham and her husband Joseph of N.C.; close friend, Evelyn Carelli of Medford.

Anthony J. Chappine, 78, of Hammonton, died October 22, 2006, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
Born in Atsion, he lived in Hammonton most of his life. He started Chappine Farms in 1960 and owned and operated the farm until his retirement in 1992. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served on the Mullica Township Board of Education, Atlantic County Board of Agriculture, and the Jersey Fruit Co-Op.
Surviving him are: wife, Lillian (nee Lanza); daughters, Toni Mercurio and her husband Michael of Raritan, N.J., Nancy Berenato and her husband Joseph D. of Hammonton; brothers, Phil and his wife Dolores of Elmtowne, Frank and his wife Dorothy of Vincentown; grandchildren, Joseph Berenato Jr. and his wife Meredith, A.J. Berenato, Ryan Mercurio, and the late Michael Anthony Mercurio; also his loving family and friends.

George T. Vaughan was born July 18, 1924. He departed this claimed “The Victory” on October 7, 2006.
He attended the public school in Como, N.C. He attended the Jehovah Witness at an early age.
George was married to Novela Arline who predeceased him in death. Surviving this union are two sons, David of Newark, N.J. and George Jr. of N.Y.; daughter, Shirley D. Morris of Suffolk, Va., two daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; seven grandchildren; best friend of the family Vioelt Arline of Pleasantville; many other relatives and friends.

Samuel D. Berenato, 88, of Hammonton, died October 13, 2006, at the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hammonton, he was a lifelong resident. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1941 – 1945 where he received the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He retired in 1984 from Gardiner Express in Hammonton. He served over 60 years for the Hammonton Fire Company No. 2 and was past captain in the years of 1951, 1962, and 1964. He was a member of the Hammonton V.F.W. Passalaqua Post No. 1026 since 1944 and the Hammonton D.A.V. Chapter No. 66.
Surviving him are: wife, Anna (nee Celona); sister, Rose Springer and her husband James of Lawrenceville; many nieces and nephews.

Angelo Capri, 82, of Delanco, died October 13, 2006, at the Samaritan Hospice Center in Mt. Holly.
Born in Hammonton, he had lived in Delanco since February moving there from Edgewater Park. He retired from C.V. Hill Refrigeration in Trenton in 1989 after 29 years of employment. He also served in the United States Army during World War II with the 101st Airborne Division, making 11 jumps in Central Europe, Normandy, Rhineland and Ardennes. During his service he received the Presidential Unit Citation, the Good Conduct Metal, and the European Theater Victory Ribbon and Medal.
Predeceased by: parents, Salvatore and Anna Capri. Surviving him are: wife, Helen Capri (nee Furgione); children, Ann Zecher and her husband Brian of West Amwell, Patricia Capri of Delanco, Sam Capri and his wife Louise of Shamong; sisters, Mary Inferrera of Hammonton, Gerry Costello of Willingboro, Joyce Wilson of Burlington Township; brothers, Carmen Capri, Albert Capri both of Southampton; grandchildren, Thomas Kirk, Beth McCormick, Jason Kirk, Marnie Bear, Joshua Kirk, Jennifer Brownlee, David Rotter, Kelly Keo, David Capri, Robert Zecher; eight great-grandchildren.

Thomas Joseph (TJ) Neil, 41, died October 3, 2006, at Atlantic City Medical Center.
TJ was a lifelong resident of Hammonton. He recently moved to Pleasantville. Tom was one of the first babies born at the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in January 1965. He attended Initial Teaching Alphabet School, Betty Bacharach School in Longport, and graduated from Hammonton High School in 1986. For years, Tom participated in the New Jersey Tournament of Champions competitions. TJ was pursuing his degree in data processing at Atlantic-Cape Community College. He worked at the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital as a clerk for the last ten-plus years. Tom also volunteered at Kessler where he had logged over 1000 hours. TJ served as a lector at St. Anthony of Padua Church where he was a weekly communicant. He was active in the Spina Bifida Association. TJ was an advocate for the disabled, especially at ACCC where he was instrumental in initiating Disabilities Awareness Month events to raise awareness of the needs of the physically and mentally challenged. He was president of the Friendship Association of Atlantic County, a socialization club for the disabled. In 2002 he received the Donald Sykes Award for his contributions to the community. Tom had just begun assisting at the Field of Dreams Softball Team.
Predeceased by: father, Thomas E. Neil. Surviving him are: mother, Rita E. D’Angelillio Neil; sisters, S. Linda Neil CSJ, of Troy, N.Y., Mimi Neil, Liz (Wibby) Mazuk; brother-in-law, Harry Mazuk all of Hammonton. Tom is the “favorite” uncle of his nieces, Christine F. Marts and Corinne Wood; nephew, Neil Wood; grand-nephews, Joseph Crist, Nico and Rocco Marts; loving friend, Pam Peterson of Pleasantville.

Anthony J. Caruso, 36, of Hammonton, died October 7, 2006, at home.
Born in Hammonton, he was a lifelong resident. He was the owner of A.C. Landscaping in Hammonton. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Hoopers Hounds Gun Club in Blue Anchor.
Surviving him are: wife, Carol Caruso (nee Gatto); daughters, Amanda L. Caruso, Jessica A. Caruso; sons, Anthony J. Caruso Jr., Brandon C. Lawrence T. Mauriello, 73, of Waterford, died October 3, 2006, at Kennedy Hospital in Stratford.
Born in Waterford, he was an area resident all his life. He was a graduate of Lower Camden County Regional High School and Temple University. He was a health/physical education teacher at Overbrook High School. He coached varsity football at Overbrook for 36 years retiring in 1994. Larry conducted many clinics, organized the Rotary Bowl and the South Jersey Coaches Association. He also served as the game director and a coach of the North-South game. Larry was inducted into South Jersey Football Coaches, New Jersey Football Coaches and Lower Camden County Regional Hall of Fames. He served as a high school and collegiate baseball umpire for 34 years. He was a Winslow Township committeeman and Director of Public Safety. Larry was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

Angel M. (Manolo) Melendez, 72, of Hammonton, died October 2, 2006, at the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cayey, PR, he lived in Hammonton for 63 years. He served in the Korean War with the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. Upon his discharge, he worked as a journalist and photographer for the Hammonton News. In September 1966, he graduated from the Police Academy. He was hired as the first Hispanic police officer in Hammonton where he worked for six years before joining the Public Defenders office in 1972 as a senior investigator. Mr. Melendez was a first day employee at the Sands Casino & Hotel. He retired from the Sands in 1996. He was a founding member of the Hammonton Puerto Rican Civic Association.
Predeceased by: daughter, Elsie Ruiz. Born in Hammonton, he was an area resident all his life. He was owner and operator of Marino Bros. Tire in Ancora. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II.

Robert W. Scaffidi, 61, of Hammonton, died October 4, 2006, at Atlantic City Medical Center Mainland.
Born in Hammonton, he was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Hammonton High School. He was former president of Irrigation Unlimited Inc. Bob was an avid fisherman and gardener who loved the outdoors.
Predeceased by: daughter, Desiree Scaffidi Campbell.
