Walter K. Fisch Sr.
SPARTA - Walter K. Fisch Sr., 72, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006. Born May, 18, 1934 in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late George and Ann Fisch, and resided in Denville for 25 years before moving to Sparta.
Mr. Fisch was an assembler at Strahman Valve, in Florham Park, for 25 years, having retired in 1999. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
Mr. Fisch is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ann Fisch; his sister, Romaine Helbing of Pennsylvania; his sons, Walter K. Fisch Jr. and his wife, Melanie, and Alex G. Fisch and his wife, Diane Barlowe; and grandsons Shane K. Fisch and Jonathen M. Mandyez.
A funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Scranton. View-ing will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m., at Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave., Scranton (570-347-6120). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, N.J. 07860.

Mildred B. Oliverio
HARDYSTON - Mildred Bishop Oliverio, 85, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at home after a short illness. Born to Josea and Beatrice Bishop in Greenville, S.C., she had lived in Hamburg for many years.
Mrs. Oliverio was a graduate of the Greenville General Hospital Nursing School, where she earned her R.N., and then served with the U.S. Army during World War II. She worked as a registered nurse for Riverdell Hospital in Oradell for 10 years before retiring in 1976. Mrs. Oliverio was a member of the Stockholm United Methodist Church and active with the Hardyston Township Senior Citizens. She was an avid golfer, bowler and an accomplished seamstress.
Mrs. Oliverio was predeceased by two brothers, Alvin and Melvin Bishop; and by three sisters, Louise Hart, Edna Hopkins and Evelyn Sutton.
She was the beloved wife of William James Oliverio; devoted mother of B. Jane Bracken of Hardyston; and is also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive their friends at the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main St., Franklin, on Wednesday, from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at North Hardyston Cemetery, Hardyston.

William Portmann Sr.
BRICK - William Portmann Sr., 86, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006. Born in Switzerland, he lived in Lafayette for 30 years before moving to Brick six months ago. Before retiring, Mr. Portmann was employed as a union painter.
His beloved wife, Rose Saxer Portmann, died in 1997.
Surviving are a son, William Jr. and his wife, Maureen Portmann, of Wall, formerly of Wyckoff; and a sister, Charolette Portmann of Zurich, Switzerland. He was also the cherished grandfather of Sean Portmann of Point Pleasant Beach, and Sandra Trach and her husband, Scott, of Brunswick, Maine; and the great-grandfather of Katherine Trach.
The funeral will depart from the Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., for an 11 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 17 Pompton Ave., Pompton Lakes. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fr. Michael Carnavale Center, c/o St. Mary's R.C. Church, 17 Pompton Ave., Pompton Lakes, N.J. 07442. Fermin Mendez
POMPTON LAKES - Fermin Mendez, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains.
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Mr. Mendez came to the United States in 1948 and had lived in Pompton Lakes since 1961. He was in sales and exports for Seatrain Lines in Edgewater for more than 40 years before his retirement. A member of St. Mary's Church in Pompton Lakes, Mr. Mendez was a member of A.A.R.P and the Wayne Senior Center.
The son of the late Jose and Maria Suarez Mendez, Mr. Mendez is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nieves Delgado Mendez; one son, Omar F. Mendez and his wife, Marie, of Culver Lake, Frankford; two sisters, Angelina Orihuela of Miami, Fla., and Sister Nerida Mendez of San Juan, Puerto Rico; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, 210 Route 206 North, Hainesville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, 5 to 6:45 p.m., at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope With Heart, P.O. Box 618, Hewitt, N.J. 07421 or www. hopewithheart.org. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St., Branchville.

Margaret Glennon
OCRACOKE ISLAND, N.C. - Margaret Glennon, affectionately known as "Gram," died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at her home on Ocracoke. She was 98.
She was born on Oct. 26, 1908, in Newark. As a young women she was employed as a proof-reader of legal documents. In 1928 she married James P. Glennon and resided in Hillside as a mother and homemaker. In 1964 she moved to Stanhope to be near her family. She worked with her family at Jean and Lindy's Restaurant in Stanhope for many years. She also worked as a dietary aide at Dover General Hospital in Dover. In 1991 she retired to Ocracoke Island to be with her beloved daughter, Jean Wrobleski. Mrs. Glennon enjoyed gardening and bird watching, and loved to cook and bake for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James P.; her daughter, Jean Wrobleski; her son-in-law, Edward L. Wrobleski; and her grandson, James Wrobleski.
She is survived by five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m., at Tranquility Cemetery in Green. Family and friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home, 31-33 Main St., Netcong on Thursday, at 10 a.m.

Herman J. Brown
NEWTON - Herman J. "Buzz" Brown, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at home.
Born in Trenton, Mr. Brown was a longtime resident of Newton. He was a graduate of Newton High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Italy.
A lineman and foreman for Jersey Central Power & Light, Mr. Brown retired after 43 years of service. He also worked part time for Stone Brook Florist in Branchville.
He was a member of IBEW, United Gun Club of Fredon, and the Blue Ridge Hungry Hollow Hunting Club in New York state. An avid fisherman, hunter and golfer, Mr. Brown will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of people.
The son of the late Herman J. Brown Sr. and Clara Anderson Brown, Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nell E. Cole Brown; two children, Thomas H. Brown and his wife, Yolanda, of Sandyston, and Cynthia Brown Clark and her husband, Mark, of Frankford; three grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Brown, and Vanessa Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m., at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Newton First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 5, Newton, NJ 07860.

Andrew S.Conte
HOPATCONG - Andrew S. Conte, 58, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Hopatcong for 46 years. He founded Get Potted Garden Florist in Hopatcong 28 years ago. He was a member of the Wanderers Car Club, Garden State GTO Club and St. Jude's R.C. Church in Hopatcong.
Mr. Conte was predeceased by his son, Andrew, in 1989.
He was the beloved husband of 39 years to Laura C. (Marotta); the devoted father of Christine M. Alongi and her husband, Sebastin, and Beth A. Potter and her husband, Terrance; loving grandfather of Adrianna M. Alongi; dear brother of Margaret A. Mazzo and Albert Conte; and cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Monday at 9 a.m., from the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing (973-398-3000), followed by a 10 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Jude's R.C. Church, Hopatcong. Interment will be in Stanhope Union Cemetery, Mount Olive. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

William A. Panfile Jr.
WANTAGE - William A. Panfile Jr., 62, died at Saint Clare's Hospital, Sussex Borough, on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, after a short illness.
Born to William A. Panfile Sr. and Alice Barbara Clark Panfile in Hackensack, he lived in Wantage for many years.
Mr. Panfile served with the U.S. Army National Guard during the Vietnam War and then worked as a salesman for DeMassi Cadillac in Englewood Cliffs.
He then worked for Mercury Tire in Fairfield before moving to County Tire in Caldwell. Mr. Panfile was an avid pool player and bowler.
Mr. Panfile was predeceased by a son, Kyle Panfile.
He was the devoted father of Craig Panfile of Franklin, Marc Panfile of Stockholm, Thad Panfile of Hopatcong, Jessica Panfile of Wantage, Kimberley Panfile of Augusta, Jenny Thiessen of Hawley, Pa., William A. Panfile III of Wantage and Caitlin Panfile of Wantage.
He is also cherished by 11 grandchildren, and was the dear brother of Allen Panfile of Virginia.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m., at the Sussex United Methodist Church in Sussex Borough. It will be officiated by the Rev. Jane Verstoep. Arrangements are by Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third St., Sussex Borough.

Beatrice A. Rank
BYRAM - Beatrice A. Rank, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton after a short illness. Mrs. Rank was born in Byram on Aug. 30, 1920, and was a lifelong resident.
Mrs. Rank worked as a school bus driver for more than 30 years for the Byram school system. She was an active member of the Byram Historical Society, Red Hat Society and the Byram Seniors Club.
Mrs. Rank was predeceased by her husband, Walter. Together they were among the founding members of the Byram Rescue Squad.
Mrs. Rank was a cherished mother to her sons, William S. Rank of Byram and Robert A. Rank of Andover; and to her daughters, Carol A. Haase of Wantage and Linda M. Coleman of Stanhope; a beloved grandma to eight grandchildren; a dear great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren; and loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation was private. Her family invites all to join them for a memorial service to honor this extraordinary woman on Saturday at 2 p.m., at Christ Episcopal Church, 369 Sandshore Road, Budd Lake. Flowers may be sent to the church.
