Rose M. Bertino
Rose M. Bertino, 83, of Hammonton, died Tuesday, April 17 [2001], at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton.
Born in Hammonton, Bertino was a lifelong resident. She retired in 1982 after 20 years of service as an examiner for the National Garment Co. in Hammonton. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union of America.
Surviving her are: a brother, Domenic Bertino, of Cherry Hill; two sisters, Mary Casadia, of Hammonton, and Angelina Adams, of Hammonton; and she was the devoted aunt and great aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 20, at St. Joseph's Church in Hammonton. Burial followed at Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton.
Arrangements were made by the Marinella Funeral Home.
Roger D. Sarao
Roger D. Sarao, 62, of Hammonton, died Friday, April 20 [2001], at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden.
Born in Hammonton, Sarao was a lifelong resident. He worked as a floor person for the Hilton Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. He was a member of St. Joseph's RC Church in Hammonton. He enjoyed going to the race track and to the casino. He most enjoyed spending time with his greatest joy, his grandson, Joseph T. Lombardo.
Surviving him are: his wife, Carol Sarao (nee McIntosh); one son, Roger D. Sarao Jr., of Howell; two daughters, Kristina Lombardo and her husband Joseph, of Hammonton, and Lauren Sarao, of Hammonton; one grandson, Joseph T. Lombardo, of Hammonton; his mother, Anna Sarao, of Hammonton; one sister, Joann "Dolly" Wolf, of Sweetwater; and one brother, Joseph Sarao, of Hammonton.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 23, at St. Joseph's RC Church in Hammonton.
Burial followed at the convenience of the family.

Raymond L. Nowlin
Raymond L. Nowlin, 75, beloved husband of Jennie (nee Galilei), and loving father of Maureen Federico, of Hammonton, and Janice Lawless, of Mays Landing, died Friday, April 20 [2001], at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton, after a long illness.
Born in Danville, Va., Nowlin was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict, where he served with honor in the U.S. Navy as Chief Gunner's Mate on destroyers and LSTs. He was an active member of the Elwood Vol. Fire Dept. since 1961. When he relinquished active firefighting duties, he remained as treasurer of the fire company until his retirement this year. The Elwood Vol. Fire Dept. recently dedicated their new fire truck to Nowlin, which bears a plaque reading, "This truck is dedicated to Ray Nowlin for years of service." Nowlin moved here from New York City with his family in 1961 and worked at Hammonton Park Clothes. He recently retired from Bally's Park Place, Atlantic City, where he worked as a slot attendant for 15 years.
Surviving him are: his wife, Jennie (nee Galilei) his daughters, Maureen Federico, of Hammonton, and Janice Lawless, of Hammonton; a brother, Billy Nowlin, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a grandson, Stephen Lawless, of Mays Landing; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 23, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Hammonton.
Burial followed at Atlantic County Veteran's Cemetery in Estell Manor.

Frank A. Rodio
Frank A. Rodio, 82, of Hammonton in the Winslow Twp. area, died Friday, April 20 [2001], at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton.
Born in the Rosedale section of Winslow Twp., Rodio was a lifelong resident. He retired from the Delaware River Port Authority Security Division after 30 years. He graduated from Hammonton High School Class of 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0398 of Elm, and the VFW Post #6523 of Berlin. He was a former member of the Never There Gunning Club.
Surviving him are: his wife, Mary; a son, Frank Rodio, of Hammonton; two daughters, Cheryl Hughes, of Cherry Hill, and Barbara Rodio, of Cherry Hill; three sisters, Louise Boyer, of Hammonton, Mary Scoleri, of Hammonton, and Jennie Novella, of Rosedale; he was the loving grandfather of Ryan; and the dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 24, at St. Joseph's Church in Hammonton.
Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hammonton.

Frank Slabinski
Frank Slabinski, 91, of Hammonton, and formerly of Plains, Pa., died Sunday, April 15 [2001], at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton.
Born in Plains, Pa, Slabinski lived there until he moved to Hammonton a month ago. He was a retired machinist for Hudson Textile Co. in Plains. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Peter and Paul Church in Plains and the Wyoming Valley Catholic Laymen's Retreat League in Scranton, Pa. for 25 years.
Surviving him are: his wife of 67 years, Jessie (nee Luckenback); a daughter, Lorraine Cappuccio and her husband Bill, of Hammonton; three brothers, Anthony Slabinski, of Jenkintown, Pa., Louis Slabinski, of Hazelton, Pa., and Edward Slabinski, of N. Bergen, NJ; he was the loving grandfather of three, Karen Kijack and Suzanne and Kenneth Kozischek; and he was the great-grandfather of two.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 19, at St. Peter and Paul Church in Plains.
Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carveton, Pa.

Gordon G. Hiltwine
Gordon G. Hiltwine, 81, of Hammonton, died Monday, April 9 [2001], at South Jersey Health Systems Newcomb Hospital in Vineland.
Born in Pottstown, Pa., Hiltwine lived in Hammonton for many years. He was a retired plumber and worked in Hammonton for more than 45 years, known as Gordon G. Hiltwine Inc. He was a member of the Hammonton American Legion F.A. Funston Post #186, D.A.V. of Hammonton. During WWII, as a member of the 1st Marine Division, Hiltwine enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1942 and during his 29 months overseas he saw action in Guadalcanal, New Britain and Peleliu Island. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in May of 1945 and the Purple Heart Medal in 1944. "His courage, skill, initiative and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest tradition of the United States Naval Service."
Surviving him are: his wife, Lillian (Bell); two sons, Kenneth Hiltwine, of Hammonton, and Joseph Hiltwine and his wife Ginny, of Hammonton; two sisters, Mary Boyer, of Phoenixville, Pa., and Myrtle Bell, of Delaware; he was the loving grandfather of three, Timmy, Joe and James; and was the dear uncle of Marie and Charles Gazzara, Judith and Tom Kitching, William and Janet Brennan, and Frank and Marion Brennan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Church on S. Egg Harbor Rd. in Hammonton. Viewing Thursday after 9:30 a.m. at the Marinella Funeral Home, 102 N. Third St., Hammonton.

Lillian Tassone
Lillian Tassone, 87, of Hammonton, died Sunday, April 8 [2001].
Born in Hammonton, Tassone was a lifelong resident. She served as executive housekeeper at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital for 22 years, and was a member of the International Executive Housekeepers Association. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Hammonton and a Gold Member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving her are: two daughters, Linda DeCicco and her husband James, of Hammonton, and Betty Anderson and her husband Joel, of Cokato, Minn.; a son, Houston Seals, of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Jane Driscoll, of Keystone Heights, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Mickey, Chuck, Jane, Justin, Brady, Dylan and Alana; and four great-grandchildren, Tabatha Lillian, Rachel, Sundance and Eve Marie.
Relatives and friends attended funeral services on Tuesday, April 10, at the Landolfi Funeral Home in Hammonton.
Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Tuckerton.

Minnie T. Mazza
Minnie T. Mazza (Mavilla), 80, of Hammonton, died Wednesday, April 4 [2001].
Born in Hammonton, Mazza lived in Hammonton most of her life.
Mazza was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Mazza.
Surviving her are: two sons, Anthony Mazza and his wife Marie, of Hammonton, and Frank J. and his wife Liz, of Hammonton; two daughters, Annetta Witcraft and her husband Robert, of Williamstown, and Mary Ann Wells and her husband Raymond, of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Mary Wuobio, of Saganaw, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Albert C. Mulliner
Albert C. Mulliner, 88, of Hammonton, died on Tuesday, April 10 [2001], Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton.
Born in Shamokin, Pa., Mulliner lived in Hammonton since 1938. He was a manger of J.J. Newberry Five and Ten Store for more than 15 years. He was a retired groundskeeper for the Marriott Seaview Country Club for more than five years. He worked for Wheaton Industries in Mays Landing for more than 10 years. He started Little League Baseball in New Jersey with Hammonton being his first team. He formed the 85, 100 and 115 pound basketball league in Hammonton. He also started the sports program at St. Joseph High School, and also played for the local semi-pro baseball teams.
Surviving him are: a stepson, Fred Errig, of Hammonton; two brothers, Kimber Mulliner, of Shamokin, and Lamarr Mulliner, of Shamokin; and a sister, Martha Readinger, of Norristown, Pa.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Marinella Funeral Home, 102 N. 3rd St. in Hammonton.
Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton.
