Samuel C. Mavilla
Samuel C. Mavilla Sr., 62, of Hammonton, died on Thursday, May 23 [2002], at Kessler Hospital.
Born in Hammonton he was an area resident all his life. He was a graduate of Hammonton High School class of 1958. He was employed by Bruno’s Auto Parts as a machinist.
Surviving him are: son, Samuel C. Mavilla Jr. of Hammonton; daughters, Sandra Shellenhamer with husband Dick of Lebonon, Pa. and Marianne Hobart with husband Karl of Upper Marlboro, Md.; brothers, John of Hammonton and Tony of Northfield; sister, Marie Gonnelli of Hammonton. He was also the loving grandfather of Adam and Erik Shellenhamer and Christopher Hobert.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 28, at St. Joseph Church, followed by burial at Greenmount Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Rose "Honey" Costa
Rose “Honey” Costa, 76, of Hammonton, died on Monday, May 20 [2002], at William B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hammonton, she was a lifelong resident. Costa worked as a seamstress and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
Surviving her are: sister, Theresa “Betty” Milazzo of Hammonton and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s RC Church, on Thursday, May 23, followed by burial at Greenmount Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Carnesale Funeral Home of Hammonton.
The family requests donations to the American Heart Association, 600 White Horse Pike, Audubon, N.J. or to the Hammonton Rescue Squad, 300 S. Egg Harbor Road, Hammonton.

Anthony E. Perna
Anthony E. (Colonel) Perna, 87, of Elm, N.J., died on May 20 [2002], at W. B. Kessler Hospital.
Born in Elm, he was an area resident all his life. He owned and operated Tony’s Barber Shop. He also had Colonel Trash Removal and landscaping. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. He was a member of American Legion Post # 398 of Elm, and was an original member of Elm and Dunbarton Fire Companies.
Surviving him are: wife, Isabella (Christopher); four sons, Anthony C. of Sicklerville, William R. of Elm, Robert E. of Hallendale, Fla., and Milton of Collings Lakes; daughter, Evelyn De Mayo of Sicklerville; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends attended services at Marinella Funeral Home, on Thursday, May 23, followed by interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Hammonton.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Josephine Calabria
Josephine Calabria (nee Caracciolo), 91, wife of the late William Calabria of Hammonton, died on Monday, May 20 [2002], at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Hammonton.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a lifelong resident of the Hammonton/Blue Anchor area. Before her retirement, Calabria worked as a machine operator for Bell Sportswear in Hammonton. She was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union, St. Joseph’s RC Church in Hammonton, and she was a former longtime member of St. Rita’s Society.
She is also predeceased by her daughter, Ida “tootsie” Pinto and her great granddaughter Brittany Ann Conner. Surviving her are: daughter, Joann Scaffidi and her husband Carmen of Hammonton; son, Matthew J. Calabria and Maria Palmieri of Hammonton; son-in-law, Ernie Pinto of Elmtowne; four sisters, Florence Pignatelli of Folsom, Antoinette Barresi of California, Louise Picciotti of Hammonton and Marie Caracciolo of Elmtowne; six grandchildren, Debbie Zuniga, Dawn Nardi, Matthew Calabria Jr., William J. Calabria, Carmen Scaffidi III and Kenneth Scaffidi; three great- grandchildren, Brooke Biggins, Biassi Calabria, and Gia Nardi.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s RC Church on Thursday, May 23, followed by burial at Greenmount Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Carnesale Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Helen P. Caucci
Helen P. Caucci, 87, wife of the late Thomas, of McKee City, died on Monday, May 20 [2002], at Mainland Hospital, Pomona.
Born in Hammonton, she was an area resident all of her life. She was the pioneer of South Jersey roadside farm markets which she started in 1938. She was also the founder of Tom’s Farm Market which is now Tom’s Garden World. Helen lived her life by showing her love for her family and for anyone who was lucky enough to come to know her. She was unselfish in every way.
Surviving her are: four sons, Thomas of Laureldale, Bobby of Mays Landing, Herman of Linwood and Charlie of Mays Landing; two daughters, Rosemary Fenwick of Absecon and Rita Codario of Egg Harbor Township; three sisters, Olga Annacone of Mays Landing, Julie Rodio of Hammonton, and Ann Di Marino of Rehoboth Beach; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 24 at Assumption Church in Pomona, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Joseph T. Chiappine
Joseph T. Chiappine, 76, of Hammonton, husband of the late Angelina “Angie” DiMaggio died on Thursday, May 9 [2002], at the Bishop McCarthy Residence in Vineland.
Born in Winslow, N.J. he lived in Hammonton for many years where he was a self -employed electrician. He also was an electrician at Presswell Records, Ancora, N.J. for 20 years. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, a member of The American Legion Post 186, Hammonton, Chiappine also was a former member of Winslow Fire Dept.
He was the brother of the late Rosalie Calderone.
Surviving him are: daughter, Sr. JoAnn Chiappine; three brothers, Anthony, Lee, and Frank, all of Hammonton; also many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended a Funeral Liturgy on May 13, at St. Joseph Church followed by Military Honors Entombment at Greenmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospitaler Sisters of Mercy, 915 So. Main St., Pleasantville, NJ 08232.
Arrangements were made by Landolfi Funeral Home of Hammonton. .

Emily F. Campanella
Emily F. Campanella, 82, of Hammonton, died on Monday, May 13 [2002], at her residence.
Born in Hammonton, she was a life long resident. She and her father were Co-Owners and Operators of Edward P. Campanella Construction Co. When her father retired, she worked as a Bank Teller for 1st Union Bank of Hammonton for more than 15 years. She graduated from Hammonton High School and Pierce Business School. She was a founding member of the St. Anthony of Padua Church. She was a former trustee of the church, a member of its financial Council and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was the Treasurer for the W.B. Kessler Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and a benefactor for St. John of God School.
Surviving her are: nephew, Donald Volpe Jr., Md.; nieces, Teckla A. Volpe, Cynthia Benedetto and her husband Salvatore all of Hammonton; great-nephews, Matthew, Michael and John Benedetto, Donald J. Volpe III; great-niece, Claire.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on May 17 at St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by entombment at Greenmount Cemetery.
Donations may be sent to St. John of God Community Services 532 Delsea Drive, Westville Grove, NJ 08093.
Arrangement were made by Marinella Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Kenneth D. Whisler
Kenneth D. Whisler Sr., 55, of Blue Blue Anchor, died on Wednesday, May 15 [2002], at home.
Born in Philadelphia he was raised in Brooklawn, N.J. and lived in Blue Anchor for the past 40 years. He retired from Atlantic Electric in 1998 after 26 years of service. He worked for Fairlight Electric in Atco, N.J. He served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam 355th TAC FTR. SQ. He graduated from Edgewood High School. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Harold Koeppen #7774 of St. Lucy’s Church.
Surviving him are: wife, Susan (Mariano); children, Kenneth D. Jr. and his wife Jodi Ann of Folsom, Kevin of Berlin and Kelly of Hammonton. He was the loving son of Eleanor and the late Carl Whisler of Blue Anchor; brother of Carl R. and wife Bonnie of Blue Anchor, Raymond M. and wife Sheila of Waterford and Donna M. and Herman Nelke of Blue Anchor; sister-in-law, Sandra Pooler and husband Albert of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Kevin, Kenneth, Danielle, David and Ryan.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lucy’s Church in Blue Anchor on Saturday, May 18, followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral home of Hammonton.

Dorothy V. Dillon
Dorothy V. Dillon, 86, of Hammonton died Thursday, May 9 [2002] at Greenbriar Nursing Center.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a longtime resident of Atlantic City before moving to Hammonton in 1992. She previously worked as a waitress at the Neptune Inn in A. C.
Surviving her are: several nieces and nephews.
Private Funeral Services were held and burial took place at Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton.
Arrangements by Carnesale Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Frank J. Torrissi Sr.
Frank J. Torrissi Sr., 77, of Hammonton, died on Friday, May 17 [2002], at J.F. Kennedy Hospital in Cherry Hill, N.J.
Born in Millville, he lived in Hammonton most of his life. He retired in 1990 as Owner and Operator of F&M Trucking Inc. After retirement he worked for Dana Transport Systems, Inc. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, he received the Bronze Star for bravery under fire, the Purple Heart and was promoted from Private to Staff Sgt. in 1 jump. He was a member of the Hammonton American Legion Post # 186 and the Hammonton Senior Citizens Club.
Surviving him are: wife, Molly (Mazzei); sons, Michael and his wife Laura of Nesco, and Frank Jr. and his wife Betty Jo of Hammonton; daughter, Patricia Pagonis and her husband Elia of Montville, N.J.; grandchildren, Michael Jr., Carianne, Frank III, Sarah and Molly Izatt, Dean and Zoe Pagonis.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 21 at St. Joseph Church, followed by burial at Batsto-Pleasantmills Cemetery.
