Elwood C. “Chuck” Duncan Jr
U.S. Air Force Senior Airman, Elwood C. “Chuck” Duncan Jr., 25, of Hammonton died suddenly on Sunday, October 13 [2002], while stationed at the Kunsan Air Base, So. Korea.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1999 and took his basic training at the Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and then was stationed at the Eglin Air Force Base, Ft. Walton, Fla., before he was transferred to Korea in July, where he was a heavy motor vehicle mechanic. He was a graduate of Hammonton High School, Class of 1995 and also attended the Star Institute Computer School, Vineland, and achieved the Purple Belt in Karate. He was previously employed at the Acme Market and Wal-Mart Stores in Hammonton before enlisting.
Surviving him are: wife, Jessica Day (nee Richardson); mother, Catherine Duncan of Hammonton; father, Elwood C. Duncan Sr. and his wife Jean of Mays Landing; sister, Stephanie Heggan and husband Jason and their daughter Samantha of Hammonton; grandmother Grace Jacobs and aunt Evelyn Jacobs, both of Hammonton.
A viewing will be held Thursday, October 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, October 25 at 8 a.m. at Landolfi Funeral Home.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, October 25, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Martin De Porres RC Church, followed by a full military burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hammonton.
Arrangements were made by Landolfi Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Richard J. Sayer
Richard J. Sayer, 72, of Hammonton, died Friday, October 25 [2002], in Hammonton as a result of an automobile accident.
Born in Newark, N.J., he lived in Edison before moving to Hammonton six months ago. He was employed for 42 years as the Senior Property manager for Samuel Geltman & Company of Ft. Lee, N.J. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a staff Sgt. In the USMC, serving from 1950 to 1953. He was a past Commander of American Legion Post #0471 of Iselin. Husband of the late Edna (nee Hucker).
Surviving him are: son, Richard C. and his wife Catherine of Hammonton, one daughter, Marina and husband John Compitello of New Port Richey, Fla., one sister, Ethel Orchardo of Woodbridge, Conn., grandchildren: Richard, Stephen and Christian Sayer; Leslie Ann and John Compitello; many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Church, 481 Sandford Ave., Newark, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial and Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange.
Donations may be made to the Hammonton Rescue Squad, 300 S. Egg Harbor Rd., Hammonton.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral Home.

Louis Cruz
Louis Cruz, 58 of Elwood, died on Wednesday, October 23 [2002].
Born in Guajama, Puerto Rico, he lived in this area for many years. Cruz was a home health care provider for Protocall Health Care of Northfield, N.J.
He was a member of the Democratic Club of Mullica Township.
Surviving him are: wife of thirty five years, Maria (nee Quinones) Cruz of Elwood; daughters, Sonia Cruz-Robinson and her husband Kenneth of Egg Harbor Township; Mayra Cruz-Connerton and her husband Christopher of Egg Harbor City, and Marisol Cruz of Elwood; foster children, Mark Mercado of Clementon, N.J., and Lisa Martinez and her husband Carlos of Egg Harbor City; brothers, Rafael Cruz of El Paso, Texas, and Herminio Cruz of San Diego, Cal.; sister, Laura Lopez of Miami, Fla.; grandchildren, Kenneth Robinson Jr., Julian Connerton, Gabriela Connerton, Natalie Robinson, Adriana Martinez and Gabriela Martinez. He was predeceased by one granddaughter Isabella Connerton.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 26 at St.Martin de Porres RC Church, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Carnesale Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Salvatore Benedetto
Salvatore Benedetto, 88, of Hammonton, died on October 18 [2002] at his residence.
Born in Hammonton, he was a lifelong resident. He was part owner of Central Café from 1948 through 1953. He retired from the N.J. State Police Troop A as a dispatcher in 1974 after 21 ˝ years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in the European Theatre. He received a Purple Heart and a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Palotti Council. He was past Post Commander of Hammonton D.A.V., member of the V.F.W. Post 1026 and American Legion 186.
Surviving him are: wife, Rose (Marino); sons, Salvatore and wife Cynthia of Hammonton, Nicholas of Vineland, and Dennis M. and wife Ginger of Medford Lakes; brother, Whitty Benedetto of Hammonton; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, John, Stephen, D. Michael, Amy Leigh and Scott.
Relatives and Friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on October 21 at St. Joseph Church, followed by Entombment at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Elizabeth "Betty" Filardo
Elizabeth “Betty” Filardo, 82, of Hammonton, died on Friday, October 18 [2002], at home.
Born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., she lived in this area many years. Mrs. Filardo retired from Whitehall Laboratories in Hammonton as a line worker.
Surviving her are: daughters, Betsy Clarke of Hammonton and Christine Filardo of Wilmington, Del.; granddaughters, Jessica Tosto and Amy Tosto.
Relatives and friends attended services on October 21 at the Carnesale Funeral Home in Hammonton, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Carnesale Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Clark Hovermale Sr.
Clark Hovermale Sr., 68, (formerly of Hammonton) died Friday, October 25 [2002], following a lengthy illness.
He resided in West Palm Beach, Fla., with his wife Laura after retiring in June of 1996 from American B.D. and Company in Medford, N.J., where he was a warehouse manager for 32 years. He was a former coach for the Hammonton Hawks Football Organization in the late 1960s. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and skeet shooting.
Surviving him are: loving and devoted wife Laura (nee Mullin) of West Palm Beach; daughters and their husbands: Linda and John Caporale, Robin and Todd Zane, all of Hammonton, Donna and Robert Kates of Somerdale; son and his wife: Clark Jr. and Denise Hovermale of Waterford; grandchildren, Clark III, Nicole, Jaclyn, Lindsay, Ryan, Jennifer, John Jr., Rachel and Robert Jr.
At the family’s request, the services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Agnes Scoglio
Agnes M. Scoglio, 65, of Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away at home on October 22 [2002].
Born in Philadelphia, she was a graduate of Little Flower High School, a former resident of Cherry Hill, N.J. She was an associate with Strawbridge & Clothier.
Surviving her are: devoted husband, Anthony H. Scoglio; daughters, Michele Amrom, Cheryl Scoglio, both of Boynton Beach; son, Anthony J. Scoglio of Easthampton; three grandchildren, and her loving sister-in-law Marie Scoglio of Hammonton.
Funeral services were held on October 26 in Boynton Beach, FL.
Family has requested that contributions be made in memory of Agnes to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407.

Sue M. Weckerly
Sue M. Weckerly (nee Giacobbe), 96, wife of the late William, died on October 21 [2002] at Fair Acres in Lima, Pa.
Born and raised in Hammonton, she lived in Lima for the past five years.
Surviving her are: daughters, Kathleen and her husband Dr. Peter Rizzotte of Avondale, Pa., and Loretta and her husband Dr. Felix Lanting of Staten Island, N.Y.; grandchildren, Nancy Sue and Ken Paulus, Dr. William Lanting and Theodore Lanting; three great-grandchildren as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 25, at St. Joseph Church, followed by burial at Greenmount Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral Home of Hammonton.

Philip Iannaco
Philip Iannaco Sr., 91, of Waterford died Tuesday, October 29 [2002], at his residence.
Born in Waterford, he was a lifelong resident. He was the former Owner & Operator of Iannaco Garage, Goodyear Tire Dealer, and former Chrysler & Suburban Dealer until his retirement in 1979. He was an Assistant Fire Chief for over 50 years and an exempt Fireman of the Waterford Vol. Fire Co. He was a former member of S.J. Jobbers Association, a charter member of the Wagon Wheel Gun Club and a member of the St. Sostine Society and St. Anthony Church.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen. Surviving him are: sons, Philip Jr. and his wife Margarette, Kenneth and the late Marianne, all of Waterford, Glenn and his wife Teresa of Sicklerville; daughter, Joyce Blaskey and her husband Martin of Waterford; brothers, Joseph and John, both of Waterford; sister, Lena Iuliucci of Cedar Brook; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on November 2, at St. Anthony Church in Waterford followed by burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cedar Brook.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral Home.

Anthony Schepis
Anthony Schepis, 89, of Waterford, husband of the late Catherine C., died Sunday, October 27 [2002], at William B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Philadelphia, he was an area resident all his life. Schepis was a retired construction foreman for Ole Hansen and J.E. Brenneman Co. He was a member of the Winslow Twp. Senior Citizens, an usher at St. Anthony Church, Waterford, and a member of the Local #454 Dock Builders.
He was predeceased by his son Nicholas. Surviving him are: daughters, Henrietta DeMarco with husband Joseph and Lois Fricke with husband Martin, all of Waterford; sisters, Katherine Lemmons, Mary Heggan and Carmella Gazzara, all of Waterford, and Louise De Sandra of Philadelphia; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christina Burial on Thursday, October 31, followed by interment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin.
Donations may be made to St. Anthony Building Fund, Waterford, NJ 08089.
Arrangements were made by Marinella Funeral Home.
