Margaret K. Duberson, 87, of Hammonton died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Camden, she was a lifelong southern N.J. resident. Mrs. Duberson was a retired legal secretary. She formerly worked for Lewis C. Farsetta, Esquire of Hammonton. She was a former member of the Hammonton Soroptomist Club.
Surviving her are: husband, Samuel M. Duberson of Hammonton; sister, Betty Sack of Clermont, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended funeral services at the Carnesale Funeral Home followed by burial at Union Cemetery in Mays Landing.

John Gregal, 82, of Shamong died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Mullica Hill, he was a resident of Shamong for more than 60 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Mr. Gregal was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman.
Surviving him are: sister, Julia Montgomery of Rockledge, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Julia and Jake Lemmon, George and Alice Mae Gregal, Frank and Theresa Gregal, Judy Restuccio; many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Raul Garcia, 71, of Mullica died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at the Atlantic City Medical Center in Pomona.
Born in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, he lived in Mullica for the last 11 years. He was a retired mill worker for Washington Woodcraft.
Surviving him are: wife, Anna (nee Aponte); sons, Raul Garcia Jr. of Stonewall, La., Edwin, Jason both of Washington, N.J.; daughter, Miliagros Garcia of Egg Harbor City; four brothers; four sisters.

Jeannette F. Jeranek, 99, died Monday, June 21, 2004 at the N.J. Veterans’ Memorial Home in Vineland.
Jeannette was a dedicated public health nurse for more than 45 years.
Born in Boston April 14, 1905, she received her education at the Faulkner Hospital, Simmons College, and Harvard University, and worked for the Boston Board of Health and the Friendly Aid Association of Wellesley, Mass. In 1943 she enlisted in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps. and served her country at the San Diego Naval Hospital for the duration of World War II. In 1948 she married George Jeranek Jr. (deceased) and they settled in Madison, N.J. where she was a public health nurse for many years before retiring to Nova Scotia in 1975. Due to health reasons, Jeannette returned to New Jersey in 1995 to live with her daughter in Hammonton where she made many friends and enjoyed dining out, playing piano, and bird watching. Jeannette was a member of the Faulkner Hospital Alumni Association, the American School Health Association, the N.J. State Nurses Association, and in 1968 was nominated as a Fellow in the Royal Society of Health under the patronage of Queen Elizabeth for outstanding service in the field of public health.
Surviving her are: daughter, Ellen Jeranek of Hammonton; numerous friends and relatives both in the United States and Canada.
Funeral services will be held in Economy, Nova Scotia in September 2004.
Joseph Waskewetz, 94, of Hammonton died Thursday, June 17, 2004.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, he lived in Brigantine before moving to Hammonton in 1996. He was a photo engraver for the Philadelphia Inquirer for more than 30 years.
Surviving him are: sons, Robert Waskewetz of Broomall, Joseph Wetz of Arlington; daughters, Martha Schilling of Dresher, Patricia Birnie of East Brunswick, Carole Masso of Horsham; grandchildren, Michael, Mark Thomas, Michael, William, Diana, Kevin Birnie, Kristen, John, Janeen Schilling, Robert Wetz, Daniel Griffith; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Paige, Lindsay Wetz, Martha, Timothy McNamara.

Born in Comerio, Puerto Rico, he was an area resident for more than 25 years. Mr. Matos worked for Douglass Industries in Egg Harbor. He served in the U.S. Army.

James S. Oropallo, 79, of Hammonton died June 17, 2004 at Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Waterford, he was an area resident all his life. He was a truck driver for Allied Chemical Company in Camden until his retirement in 1974. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was a member of the Teamsters Union #676 of Camden.
Surviving him are: wife, Josephine A. (nee Mortillite); sons, James Jr. and his wife Sandy of Collings Lakes, Anthony of Atco, Paul and his wife Renee of Hammonton; brothers, Anthony of Waterford, Michael Amoriello of Waterford, Louis Amoriello of Atco; sister, Dorothy Terpolilli of Atco; grandchildren with whom he enjoyed spending his time with, Kristle, Stacy, Lauren Oropallo, Milissa Cosgrove, Michele Perez, Frank Schreffler.

Brother Thomas Portulano, S.A.C. of Fairview, 82, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004.
Loving uncle of Rosetta Totilla and her husband Anthony. Cherished great-uncle of Nicholas Totilla and brother-in-law of Dominic Liuzzi. He is also survived by the Pallottines of the Immaculate Conception Province of priests and brothers. Brother Tom was a dedicated religious brother who served the Pallottines of the Immaculate Conception for the past 60 years. During those years he served in various apostolates at Our Lady of Grace in Fairview, Bishop Eustace Prep. in Pennsauken, St. Joseph’s Church in Hammonton, Pallottine Novitiate/Retreat House in Sag Harbor, N.Y., and St. Leo’s Church in Baltimore.
Visitation was held at Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church in Fairview on Monday, June 14, 2004 followed by the Mass of Resurrection. Burial was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Born in Kokomo, Ind., she was a retired telephone operator for AT & T in Berlin and also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Edith Maimone (nee Fiore), 88, of Hammonton died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Greenbriar Nursing Center in Hammonton.
Born in Hammonton, she was a life long resident. Edith and her late husband Joseph were co-owners of JoeAnn’s Restaurant of Hammonton from 1957 until 1974.
Surviving her are: son, Angelo Joseph Maimone of Hammonton; daughter, Ann Gail Melendez and her husband Raul of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; grandson, Joseph Michael Maimone.

Marie Wiessner (nee Giacobbe), 82, of Hammonton died Friday, July 2, 2004 at home.
Born in Philadelphia, she lived in Hammonton for most of her life. She grew up working for her parents at Square Deal Farm Market. Marie and her late husband John were the former owners of Pete’s Market from 1959 – 1971. Marie operated the New Horizon Gift Shop in Rehobeth Beach from 1974 – 1981.
Surviving her are: sons, John Jr. and his wife Joanne of Hammonton, Anthony of Hammonton; daughter, Anne Gill of Palm Springs, Calif.; sister Frances Lentini of Hammonton; grandchildren, Joseph and his wife Karen, John T., Stephen, Michelle Wiessner; three great-grandchildren.

Angelo J. Arena, 86, of Hammonton died July 13, 2004 at Jefferson Hospital in Phila.
Born in Hammonton, he was an area resident all his life. He was a retired president and co-owner of Arena Oldsmobile, Hammonton until his retirement in 1978. A graduate of Hammonton High School Class of 1934, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during World War II. Mr. Arena was involved in many organizations: president of Hammonton Kiwanis Club 1959, secretary of Kiwanis from 1986 – 1987, and his name was added to the tablet of Honor of Kiwanis International. In 1996 he was awarded the “Legion of Honor” for 45 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post #186 for 40 years, member of board of directors of Empire Savings & Loan from 1963 – 1987, secretary of Greater Hammonton Chamber of Commerce from 1980 – 1998 and received the “Nice Going Award” in 1987. Mr. Arena served on Greater Hammonton Economic Development Committee, the “Save the Station” Committee, Greater Hammonton Economic Development Committee, and was secretary of Customer Advisory Council for the United States Postal Service. He was awarded the Veterans Military Certificate of Appreciation by the New Jersey Governor. In 1995 he was presented with the “Eagle Award” for dedicated service to the Main Street Hammonton Program as he loved and thought it important to do service for his community. He enjoyed the Red, White & Blueberry Festival and loved the town of Hammonton.
Predeceased by brother, Charles; sister, Marie Dampf. Surviving him are: wife, Pauline (nee DiAgostino); son, William A. and wife Tresa; daughter, Donna; brother, Joseph and his wife Annabel all of Hammonton; sisters, Mae Rastelli and her husband Anthony of Broomall, Helen Ford and her husband Robert of Hammonton; grandchildren, Brian and Kevin.

Antoinette “Nettie” DiBartolomeo (nee Alibrando), 90, of Hammonton died July 14, 2004.
Nettie and her husband owned and operated a successful family farm, fruit and produce market and car wash. She served as receptionist/secretary for the St. Lawrence Church and volunteered in the area food bank. Nettie took delight in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was an active participant in their lives attending numerous graduations, recitals, sporting events, and other memorable occasions. She enjoyed watching tennis, flowers and gardening, and nature (especially her magnolia tree and humming birds). Nettie loved to cook for her family and always had a full house. As matriarch, mother, grandmother and nana she will always be remembered to those who loved her.
Predeceased by husband, Joseph who along with Antoinette raised her brothers and sisters. Surviving her are: children, Ernest DiBartolomeo and his wife Irene, Angelina DiBartolomeo of Hammonton, Mary Fee and her husband Charles of Gibbsboro, Fay Lawrenson of Hammonton, Anthony DiBartolomeo and his wife Carol of West Berlin; sisters, Lucy DiBenedetto, Josephine Schaber; brothers, Joseph Alibrando, Samuel Alibrando, Vincent Alibrando; niece, Theresa Cochran of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
