Before retiring in 1975, he was supervisor of buildings and grounds for the Fair Lawn Board of Education, where he worked for 23 years.
He was a former member and chief of the Fair Lawn Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a life member of the New Jersey State Firefighters Association and a member of the New Jersey Fire Chiefs Association, and had been coordinator of Central Bergen Mutual Aid.
He was a past president of the Bergen County Supervisors of Buildings and Grounds, a member of the Master Benevolent Orange Masonic Lodge, and a member and past grand chaplain of the Clifton and Wyckoff Masonic lodges.
He was also a member of the Masonic Kilters, the Tall Cedars Lodge, Paterson, and was past president and a member of the Bergen County Courthouse Square Club and the NJPMMA.

WALTER BYRA, 82, of Garfield died Saturday.
Before retiring, he was a chemical operator for Ganes Chemical Co., Carlstadt.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

MARY H. SPELLMAN CALLAHAN, 78, of Cedar Grove died Friday.
Before retiring in 1987, she was a teacher for the Hanover Park School District, Hanover Township, where she worked for 31 years.
She was a parishioner of Holy Angels R.C. Church, Little Falls.
She was a graduate of Misericordia College, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

MAXWELL A. DENECKE JR., 81, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Upper Saddle River, died Tuesday.
He was mayor of Upper Saddle River in the late 1950s and had been a self-employed certified public accountant.

ANDREW JOSEPH DODD, 84, of New Milford, Conn., formerly of Wayne, died Friday.
Before retiring, he was plant manager of CBS Soundcraft, Danbury, Conn.
Previously, he was a supervisor in the experimental test division of Curtiss-Wright Corp., Wood-Ridge, where he worked for 31 years.
He was a former volunteer for Company 4 of the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department and was a former Boy Scout leader at the Preakness Reformed Church.

ARTHUR HENRY DOLT SR., 86, of Lakehurst, formerly of Closter, died Friday.
Before retiring, he owned Art's Florist, Closter.
He also had been a groundskeeper for the Upper Saddle River public school system.
He was former chief and a life member of the Closter Volunteer Fire Department and was a life member of the Closter Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lakehurst, and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.

CYNTHIA VAN BLARCOM LEMMERMAN, 82, of Durham, N.C., formerly of Wyckoff, died April 18.
Before retiring, she worked at Paterson General Hospital.
She was a nursing graduate of the University of Virginia and received a master's degree from the University of Denver.
She had taught at the University of Colorado. She and her husband operated Lemmerman's Farm in Wyckoff for more than 30 years.
She served in the Navy Corps of Nurses during World War II.
She was a member of the Wyckoff Republican League and the Valley Hospital Auxiliary.
