He was a member of United Textile Workers of America Local 284.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Lodi.
He was a member of American Legion Post 255, Garfield; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2640, Wallington; and Elks Lodge 2267, the 40/8 Club, and the Seniors, all in Garfield.

EDWARD S. CARROLL, 88, of Wayne, formerly of West Paterson, died Sunday.
Before retiring in 1977, he was an executive for Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. in Newark and Parsippany, where he worked for 30 years.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church, Wayne, and a former parishioner of St. Bonaventure R.C. Church, West Paterson, where he had been a member of the Holy Name Society.
He had served as a councilman in West Paterson from 1961 to 1963 and was a member of its Democratic Club.

She was a member of the 369th Veterans Association of New Jersey District Wives and the Bergen County chapter of the NAACP in Englewood.

DONALD A. GROSS, 52, of East Brunswick, formerly of Fair Lawn, died Friday.
He was a news reporter for the Staten Island Advance, covering beats including police and courts, the environment, and science and health.
He was awarded the 1996 Marguerite Higgins Journalism Award for his coverage of the activation of National Guard troops on Staten Island during the Blizzard of 1996 and was a finalist for the Deadline Club Award for excellence in journalism, given by the New York City chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for his series on managed health-care insurance.
Previously, he was editor of the Prospect Press in Brooklyn.
He was a graduate of Emerson College, Boston, and received a master's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck.
