HERBERT J. PASSINO, 83, of Tenafly died Friday. Before retiring, he was a chemical-engineer consultant. Previously, he was a chemical engineer for Kellogg, New York City. He was the chairman of Gordian Associates; a board member of New Jersey Institute of Technology and Ramapo College; a member of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce; and a member and former treasurer of the American Chemical Society. A 1936 graduate of Cornell University, he received a doctorate from Pennsylvania State University in 1940. Arrangements: Eternal Flame Crematorium, Brattleboro, Vt.

MARGARET MARY KAVANAGH RIEDER, 82, of Mahwah died Sunday. Born in Canada, she came to the United States in 1945. Before retiring, she worked at Summit Park Hospital, Pomona, N.Y. Previously, she was a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, N.Y. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception R.C. He was a Eucharistic minister at St. Catherine R.C. Church, Ringwood. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council, Pompton Lakes. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
