HERBERT J. PASSINO, 83, of Tenafly died Friday. Before retiring, he was a chemical-engineer consultant. Previously, he was a chemical engineer for Kellogg, New York City. He was the chairman of Gordian Associates; a board member of New Jersey Institute of Technology and Ramapo College; a member of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce; and a member and former treasurer of the American Chemical Society. A 1936 graduate of Cornell University, he received a doctorate from Pennsylvania State University in 1940. Arrangements: Eternal Flame Crematorium, Brattleboro, Vt.

Previously, she was a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, N.Y. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception R.C. He was a Eucharistic minister at St. Catherine R.C. Church, Ringwood. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council, Pompton Lakes. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
