An Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 268.

He was also a member of Integrity Masonic Lodge 51, Paterson.

Before retiring in 1983, he was a maintenance superintendent for the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, Alpine, where he worked for 26 years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2342, Fort Lee.
He also served in the National Guard.
He was a former member of the Silver Ridge Park Westerly Volunteer First Aid Squad.

NICOLAS T. VIAPIANO, 78, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Westwood, died Wednesday.
Before retiring in 1985, he worked for Westwood Fuel Oil Co., Westwood, for 45 years.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post 206, Westwood.
He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the Elks, both in Westwood, and a charter member of Unico of New Jersey.
