REIER, CHARLES G.
On Sept. 14, 2007, age 69, a resident of Haddon Twp. for 47 years, and beloved husband for 51 years of Miriam (nee Williams). Also survived by his daughter, Kimberly Burnum (Winfield Charles) of Voorhees, his son, Charles H. (Kerri) of Burlington, NC, his grandson Charles H., Jr., his brother, John D. (Marsha) of Memphis, TN, sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Carol and William Stotzner of Amelia Island, FL, sister-in-law, Sandra Smith of Hampton, VA and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Reier graduated from Collingswood H.S. in 1955 and Camden County Vocational School in 1958. He was a member of the Collingswood Masonic Lodge #210. Additionally, he loved cars and woodworking and was an avid bowler. His family expresses their many thanks for the excellent care Caring Hospice provided. SPEICH, KATHRYN “Mimi”
(nee Wescott) On Sept. 12, 2007, age 94, of Haddonfield, wife of the late Karl H. and beloved mother of Suzanne Maull (Craig). Also survived by two grandsons Kevin (Rachael Heston) and Keith (Michelle) Maull; 3 great-grandchildren, Ariel, Faith and Logan; and her nephew, George Dersch (Jean). Kathryn, lovingly known as Mimi by her family, was an extremely loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be missed very much. Born in Philadelphia on December 27, 1912, she led a very full life. Her family feels fortunate to have been intimately involved through the years. GIMMI, EDWARD R., Sr.
On Sept. 9, 2007, age 77, a longtime Cherry Hill resident and beloved husband for 53 years of Marie A. (nee Oliver). Also survived by 3 children, Meg Gimmi of Collingswood, Karen Bard (Scott) of Audubon and Edward R., Jr. (Julie) of Lafayette Hill, PA and 6 grandchildren, Scott, Karianne and Christian Bard, Alexander, Sarah and Jonah Gimmi. Mr. Gimmi was a Mechanical Engineer at J.J. Henry Marine Architects & Engineers in Mt. Laurel for many years. Additionally, he was an artist and a member of the Fleischer Art Society in Philadelphia and the Markeim Art Center in Haddonfield. Mr. Gimmi’s family will receive friends on Wed. Evening, 7-9 PM, at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield. His Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday morning, 10 AM, at Christ the King R.C. Van Choate, Paul R.
On Sept. 2, 2007, age 87, of Philadelphia, and husband of the late Irma (nee Richter). Survived by his niece Sally Miller of Stratford, NJ and his nephew, David Stevenson of Seawall, NJ. Mr. Van Choate served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He attended Temple Univ. and the received a B.A. from Florida Southern College. Additionally, he was a Past Master Mason in Solomon’s Lodge # 3, Phila. Mr. Van Choate’s family will receive friends after 10 AM on Friday, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 5930 Rising Sun Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19120; where his Service will follow at 10:30 AM. MERRICK, Robert Armond, Sr., “Dobber”
Age 80, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away August 25, 2007. He was born on October 2, 1926 in Camden, NJ to Charles Aubrey Merrick and Carolyn Ostermayer Merrick. Having grown up in Haddonfield, NJ, Mr. Merrick graduated from Haddonfield High School in 1944 and Temple University in 1958. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Merrick proudly served his country in both WWII and the Korean War. During his free time in the military he refereed football and basketball games. After 32 years, Mr. Merrick retired as Vice President of Human Resources with Continental Can Company, Inc. and settled in Wilmington, DE. Mr. Merrick was especially proud that the last contract that he negotiated for Continental Can Company was dedicated to him by the Union. Mr. Merrick was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Charles A. Merrick. Mr. Merrick is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy (nee Opfer). He is also survived by his two sons, Robert Armond Merrick, Jr. and wife, Dorian of Wilmette, Il, Lawrence John Merrick and wife, Niki of Oak Park, IL; three daughters, Nancy Lee Scott, and husband, Kendrick of Wadsworth, IL, Pamela Ann Phelps, and husband, Brian of Orange Park, FL, and Kathlyn Amy Waters, and husband Al of Newark, DE; twelve grandchildren, Sheridan and her husband, Robert Ripley, Caroline, Grace, Peter and his wife, Jeanine, Steven, Anne, Katharine, Jennifer, Timothy and his fiancée, Robin, Robert, Emily, and Foster; four great grandchildren, Devon, Carson, Bryson, and Hayden; and a sister, Carol and her husband, George Cox of Haddonfield, NJ. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Methodist Country House, Wilmington, DE, for their many kindnesses to Mr. Merrick during his illness. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, September 1 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services at 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield, NJ. A short service will be held immediately afterward at the funeral home followed by entombment at Locustwood Cemetery in Cherry Hill, NJ. (nee Wicker) On August 27, 2007, age 94, of Sparta, NJ, formerly a longtime resident of Haddonfield and member of Christ the King R.C. Church. She was the wife of the late Francis W. and mother of the late Gerald F. She is survived by her son Martin H. and his wife Jean, of Sparta, 4 grandchildren, Jessica Convey Polifrone, Gerald M., Martin E. and Elizabeth V.
