Also, survived by his brother David and his wife Lois, of Fernandina Beach, FL, his former wife and mother of his children Christine Jost of Villas, NJ and his close friends Steve, Henry, Tom and Ralph. Strang, Anna C.
On Feb. 17, 2007, age 96 and a lifelong Haddonfield resident. Survived by her sister, Madelin P. Shepperd, of Longmeadow, MA, a nephew Russell H. Shepperd, Jr., of Haddonfield and several nieces including Suzanne M. Dodson of Springfield, MA. Engelke, Clifford W.
On February 10, 2007, age 77, and a long time resident of Cherry Hill. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (nee McEwan) and husband of the late Margaret Elizabeth “Peg” (nee Griffin). He is also survived by a son, Richard W. (Debra), of Marlton, 2 daughters, Marta L. Eustace (Rick), of Laurel Springs, and Kristen M. Underwood (Chris), of Inwood, West Va., 7 grandchildren, Laura, Brittany, Casey, Ricky, Jenn, Shawn and Kyle and 1 sister, Karin Delvaney, of Browns Mills. Mr. Engelke was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Navy from 1950-1954. Following his discharge he became a member of VFW Post #1958. In 1976 Mr. Engelke donated one of his kidneys to his son. He was a long time member of Erlton Fire Company. He served the Fire Co. in many capacities including President and Captain. Additionally, Mr. Engelke served as the Fire Marshall for Cherry Hill Twp. and for Fire District No. 2. He was also a member of the Masons and a District leader and member of the Cherry Hill Republican Club. He had a long career as an Insurance Agent with Prudential Life Insurance Co. in Cherry Hill. Mr. Engelke’s family will receive friends, Thursday Eve from 7-9PM at Kain-Murphy Funeral Home, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield; where his service will follow on Friday morning at 11AM. WISSER, RUTH F.
(nee Bridwell) On Feb. 10, 2007, age 82, a longtime resident of Haddonfield and the beloved wife of The Rev. Edwin E. Wisser, Jr. for 62 years. Also survived by 3 daughters, Barbara Glass (Robert), of Greensboro, NC, Karen Sargent (Lee), of Cherry Hill, and Cynthia Murphy (the late Blair), of Haddonfield, 5 grandchildren, Amanda, Allison, Gavin, Darin, and Arin, and 1 brother, Nagle Bridwell of Berwyn, PA.
Ruth was a graduate of Allentown High School (PA) in 1942 and was a member of the YWCA and Lamda Sigma Tau Sorority. After high school, she attended Pierce Business College and then worked in the Philadelphia Army Signal Depot. Later, she worked for 31 years as an office manager and doctors assistant for Jacqueline Coant, M.D., and Richard Gotchel, M.D. She was an active member of her church and community through her dedication to many organizations. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Haddonfield, and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westville. Also, she served as the President of the Lutheran Church Women of the Southern Conference of the NJ Synod. She was a spokeswoman for the Women’s Lutheran Church Groups in Southern NJ. Ruth is best remembered for her compassionate, nurturing manner, and the homemade meals she prepared as the organizer for congregational events at LCOS and St. John’s.
She enjoyed traveling the world through tours she and her husband organized. She was a member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International and traveled full-time for 10 years across North America in their Airstream trailer.
Viewing will be on Friday, 3-7 PM, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 204 Wayne Ave., Haddonfield, NJ 08033 and on Saturday morning, 9:30-10:45 AM. Service to follow at 11AM. Interment, private. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the church at the above address.
BERGER, ELIZABETH T.
(nee Tibbitts) On February 2, 2007, age 80, of Haddonfield, beloved wife of the late, Robert H., and mother of the late, Barbara and Philip Berger. Mrs. Berger is survived by 2 daughters, Lisa Hamill and her husband, Jim, of Haddon Twp., Charlotte Genetta and her husband, Andrew, of Haddonfield, 1 son, Robert H., Jr., and his wife, Vicky, of Kirkwood, MO., 6 grandchildren, Michael, Robert, Mandee, Emily, Brad, and Georgia, 2 great grandchildren, Riley and Aiden, a brother, Bert Tibbitts, of Clearwater, FL and Charlotte McCulley, of Gloucester City. Mrs. Berger's family will receive friends Tues. eve. From 7-9PM at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield, NJ 08033. EASTMAN, JOSEPH B.
On Jan. 29, 2007, age 85, a resident of Haddonfield for over 50 years and dedicated fan of Haddonfield Memorial HS Athletics. He was the husband of Mary M. (nee Macdonald) “Molly” and of the late Eleanor V. (nee Hacket). Also survived by 4 sons, Joseph Eastman of Westmont, Dennis Eastman of Cape May, Kevin Eastman (Wendy) of Richmond, VA, and Peter Eastman (Jennifer) of Des Moines, IA, 6 step-children, William Conroy (Nancy Shields) of Red Bank, NJ, John Conroy (Gretchen)of Haddonfield, Eileen Conroy of Des Moines, IA, Lawrence Conroy of Haddonfield, Nancy Conroy Leib (Barclay) of Morristown and Kathleen Conroy Byers (Scott) of Puyallup, WA, 13 grandchildren and 1 sister, Nanette Karol of Paramus. Mr. Eastman graduated from City College of New York. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. He achieved the rank of Captain and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Mr. Eastman had a career in the commercial real estate business and was an owner of the Eastman-Arnold Co. The company operated in the Tri-State area. Mr. Eastman’s family will receive friends on Thursday morning, Feb.1, 2007, from 10-10:45 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 200 Windsor Ave., Haddonfield, NJ; where he had been a longtime active member. His Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM. Interment, Beverly National Cem., Beverly, NJ. Carroll, Adele M.
(nee Battaglini) Age 78, a long time Haddonfield resident, died peacefully on January 27, 2007, after a long struggle with cancer and progressive supranuclear palsy. She was the beloved wife of William H. Carroll. Mrs. Carroll is also survived by 2 sons, William M. (Mary) and Joseph T., both of Haddonfield, and 2 brothers, Arnold J. Battaglini, of Boynton Beach, FL, and Michael D. Battaglini, Esq., of Vero Beach, FL.
