REED, William P.
William P. Reed, a resident of Haddonfield, died on February 11, 2008, aged 62.
Survivors: wife, Carol M. (nee Schnabel); 7 daughters, Kristin (Peter Mosiondz III), Amanda, Lauren (Steven Loreaux), Jessica, Lindsay, Devon, Meredith; 1 son, William Prescott ('Scott'); 1 brother, L. Joseph (Grace); 1 niece, Cyndi (Tom Rickards).
Mr. Reed was born in Philadelphia PA and grew up in Camden. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1964 and received a BSc degree from Temple University and a business degree from Rider University. A veteran of the US Army, he spent two years on active duty as a Russian linguist with the Defense Language Institute in Monterey CA. Mr. Reed worked as an engineer for Bell of Pennsylvania for 30 years. In recent times he was employed by Ajilon.
Mr. Reed was active in the Haddonfield School District. He served as a member of the Board of Education, was a co-chairman of the Home School Association (predecessor of the PTA), helped develop the Central School playground; and helped establish the Crew Club. He was an avid boater and fisherman who enjoyed surf fishing and vacationing in Ocean City.
Family Visitation: Sunday, February 17 at 7pm and Monday, February 18 at 9:30am at Stephenson-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville.
Funeral Service: Monday, February 18 at 11am at Haddonfield United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Road.
Interment: Bethel Memorial Park, Pennsauken.

HARGRAVE, Paul W.
Paul W. Hargrave, a former resident of Haddonfield for 30 years, died quietly in his sleep on December 16, 2007, aged 83.
Survivors: wife, Mildred (Mitzie); nine children: John (Virginia) of Haddonfield, David (Nadine) of Voorhees, Robert (Susan) of Medford, Christopher (Debbie) of Burlington, Christine VanSciver-Powers (Michael) of Medford Lakes, Kathleen (Dale) Starcher of Pennington, Jennifer (John) Cornely of Voorhees, Milissa Schang of Pensecola FL, and Timothy (Heidi) of Barrington; 28 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hargrave was born in Camden on January 1, 1924. He graduated from Merchantville High School in 1942 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout that year. In January 1943 he joined the US Army and served as a medical/surgical technician in Europe including during the Battle of the Bulge.
In August 1949 Mr. Hargrave married Mildred Van Sciver of Merchantville and completed a bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Indiana. From 1953 until 1967 he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in their signal department. He went to work at the Camden County Probation Office in 1963 when the office consisted of fewer than 10 employees. During 1973 he served as president of the statewide organization that represented county probation officers. He retired from the probation department in 1985 after 22 years of service. Mr. Hargrave also served as the president of the Camden County Mental Health Association in 1982.

Family Reception: Wednesday, December 19 at the Stephenson-Brown Funeral Home, 33 W. Maple Avenue, Merchantville.
Memorial Service: Thursday, December 20 at 10am at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Maple Avenue, Merchantville.

MECRAY, Justine
Justine Mecray (nee Eiseman),a forty-year resident of Haddonfield who lived at Medford Lees for the past 23 years, died on May 14, 2007, aged 95.
Born in St. Louis MO, Mrs. Mecray attended the John Burroughs School that was founded by her parents. She graduated from Vassar College and subsequently received a Master’s Degree from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work in St. Louis. She married Paul Mecray Jr. in 1935. They lived in Rochester MN, during Dr. Mecray’s residency at the Mayo Clinic, before moving to Riverton. After World War II, they settled in Haddonfield. Dr. Mecray served as Chief of Surgery at Cooper Hospital.
Mrs. Mecray was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society, League of Women Voters, and both the Haddonfield and Pinelands garden clubs. She helped found the Planned Parenthood Clinic of Southern New Jersey, and received numerous civic awards for her dedication to women’s rights. She was an accomplished gardener and served as a guide at the Medford Leas arboretum.
Survivors: husband, Paul; daughter, Justine M. Opel of Albuquerque NM; son, Paul M. III of Bryn Mawr PA; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Ben Eiseman of Englewood CO and Frederick B. Eiseman Jr. of Scottsdale AZ.
Memorial Service: Medford Leas at 10.45am on Sunday, June 17.
Memorial Donations: Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey, 317 Broadway, Camden NJ 08103 or the Lewis Barton Arboretum at Medford Leas, Medford NJ 08055.
Arrangements: Kain-Murphy Funeral Services.

FLYNN, James
James M. Flynn Sr, a resident of Haddonfield for 20 years, died on July 7, 2006, aged 65.
Survivors: wife Patricia (nee Lamb); sons J. Michael Jr. (Kelly Lenzi) of Margate, and Jared M. of Haddonfield; daughters Elizabeth A. Le (Thai) of Browns Mills, Emily S. Matusieski (Chris) of Collingswood, and Lesley A. and Hailey P. of Haddonfield; brother Joseph Gary (Cristine) of Collingswood.
Mr. Flynn grew up in Collingswood, graduated from Villanova University and joined the US Navy in 1962. He retired after 24 years of service as a Commander in 1986, then began a second career and retired after 19 years as the Clerk for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division.
Family Visitation: Tuesday, July 11 from 7 to 9pm at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, July 12 at 11am, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 809 Park Avenue, Collingswood
Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.

KEHOE, Thomas
Thomas J. Kehoe, a a longtime resident of Haddonfield, died on March 19, 2006, aged 88.
Survivors: wife Grace (nee Kelly); grandsons Thomas Carpenter (Linda) of Philadelphia and Jeffrey (Jennie) of Haddonfield; 2 great-grandchildren, Zachary and Katie; brothers Lawrence of Martha’s Vineyard MA, William of Boca Raton FL, Jack of Somers Point, and Richard of Pennsauken.
Mr. Kehoe retired in 1986 after serving 13 years as an International Union Representative of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Prior to that, he served as Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 322 in Camden.
Mr. Kehoe was a longtime member of Christ the King Parish and a 50- year member of the Santa Maria Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to Eagles’ Nest and Clearwater Country Clubs.
Family Visitation: Tuesday, March 21 from 7 to 8:00pm at Kain-Murphy Funeral Home, West End Avenue at Kings Highway W.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, March 22 at 10:00am at Christ the King Church, 200 Windsor Avenue, Haddonfield.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.

KLEIN, Gertrude
Gertrude Klein (nee Child) of Pitman, formerly a resident of Haddonfield for over 45 years, died on January 24, 2006, aged 92.
Survivors: husband George F.; son Charles G. (Amy Joan) of Winchester VA; daughter Carolyn K. Brown (Wayne) of Great Meadows NJ; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Klein was an administrative secretary at Haddonfield United Methodist Church where she had been a member for over 55 years. She taught Sunday School, was a Past President of the United Methodist Women, was one the first women appointed to the National Board of Pensions for the Methodist Church, and was a delegate to the General Conference of the United Methodist Church. Mrs. Klein was a Past President of the Goodwill Industries Auxiliary, a longtime member of the Parnassus Book Club, and a former Board Chair for The Neighborhood Center in Camden.
Family Visitation: Saturday, January 28 at 1:00pm in the Felton Parlor of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church.
Memorial Service: In the Sanctuary at 2:00pm.
Interment: Harleigh Cemetery, Camden.
Memorial Donations: United Methodist Home of NJ, 3311 State Route 33, Neptune NJ 07753.

AUCHTER, Thomas John
Thomas John Auchter of Cherry Hill, a former resident of Haddonfield, died on November 29, 2005, aged 79.
Survivors: wife Mary Louise (nee Brown); sons Thomas (Diana) of Nashua NH, Curtis of Haddonfield; daughters Frances Laska (Gene) of Aiken SC, and Carol Stiles (Albert) of Newtown Square PA; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, and 1 brother.
Visitation: Saturday, December 3 from 9:30 to 10:45am at Christ the King Church.
Memorial Mass: 11am.

Born May 16, 1926, in Milwaukee WI, Mr. Auchter moved to Haddonfield in 1940. After high school, served 2-1/2 years in the US Army with the 706th Tank Battalion in the Philippine Islands and at General MacArthur’s Headquarters in Tokyo.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1950 and Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 1951. He worked in public accounting and banking before joining the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) in 1961.
For the next 30 years, Mr. Auchter served as Director of Finance and Treasurer of the DRPA, overseeing its financial and accounting activities including the issuance of approximately $1 billion in bonds to pay for construction of the Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry bridges and the PATCO High-Speed Line. At the time of his retirement in 1991, the DRPA held nearly $80 million earmarked for the painting and repaving of the Ben Franklin and Walt Whitman bridges.
Mr. Auchter participated in the organization of Delaware Valley National Bank, and he served as a director. He was also a director of Inter-Boro Savings and Loan Association until its merger into Hudson United Bank.
He was a wine expert. His accomplishments in that field included the establishment of the Sous Commanderie d’Haddonfield of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin; he served as its Grand Sénéchal from 1976 until 2001. He was a member of the Union League, Tavistock Country Club, Seaview Country Club, the Surf City Yacht Club, and the University of Notre Dame Foundation.
Mr. Auchter served the local community in many ways. He was President of the Camden County Council of the Boy Scouts of America for five years and in recognition of that service, was honored with the Silver Beaver Award. He was a State Vice President for the NJ Jaycees and was recognized as their “Young Man of the Year.” He also led fundraising efforts in support of the Lawnside Historical Society. Other organizations in which he was closely involved included the YMCA and the Camden Home for Children.
