SHOEMAKER, Mary Elizabeth
Mary Elizabeth Shoemaker, a resident of Lansdale PA, formerly of Haddonfield, died on April 24, 2008, aged 82.
Survivors: husband, Edwyn L. Jr.; sons, John E. (Elvira) of Mt. Laurel and Thomas (Katherine) of Lenox MA; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Mrs Shoemaker graduated from Frankford High School in 1944, and had served as class secretary and Reunion Committee Chairman. She spent 12 years employed as an educational assistant for the Haddonfield School District. She completed her working career as Registrar for the Philadelphia Convention Bureau, retiring in 2002 after 20 years of service.
Mrs Shoemaker was a member of the Church of the Messiah, Gwynedd. Active in The Questers, she was past president of both the Kings Road Chapter in Haddonfield and Brittany Belles Chapter in Lansdale.
Family Visitation: Wednesday, April 30 after 10:30am at Church of the Messiah, Route 202 (south of Sumneytown Pike), Gwynedd PA.
Memorial Service: 11am.
Interment: Private.

WINTON, Joan M.
Joan M. Winton (nee Streahle), a resident of Cherry Hill, formerly of Haddonfield, died on February 7, 2008, aged 79.
Survivors: sons, Robert (Linda) of Haddon Heights, John (Eileen) of Sicklerville, Thomas (Sharon) of Voorhees, Richard of Maple Shade, William (Carol) of Audubon, George (Denise) of Hainesport, James (Jessica) of Haddonfield; daughters, Janet Pulsone (Rocco) of Cherry Hill, and Patricia of Marlton; 16 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.
Mrs. Winton was active at Christ the King Parish, preparing meals for the Cathedral Kitchen and assisting with the House of Charity.
Family Visitation: Monday, February 11 after 7pm at Hinski-Tomlinson Funeral Home, 81 Haddon Avenue; and again on Tuesday, February 12 after 8:30am.
Funeral Mass: Tuesday, February 12 at 10am at Christ the King Church, Wood Lane and Hopkins Avenue.

DERHAM, Joseph S.
Joseph S. Derham, a resident of Haddonfield for more than 50 years, died of congestive heart failure at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital on December 16, 2007, aged 81.
Survivors: wife of 64 years, Dorothy (nee Warren); two sons, Gregory and Thomas; daughter-in-law, Suzanne; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brooke, Mark, Thomas Jackson, Jonathan Matthew, Jesse Kyle; two sisters, Elaine and Gladys.
Predeceased by: son, Joseph Jr. in 1993.
Mr. Derham grew up in Freeport (Long Island) NY and was a graduate of Ursinus College, where he earned a BS degree in Chemistry. He was Senior Vice President with Morgan Stanley and was employed as an investment manager for 47 years until his retirement in June.
Mr. Derham was very active in community affairs. He served for many years on the Board of Education and chaired its Finance, Athletic, and Curriculum Committees. He oversaw the construction and replacement of the Middle School, expansion of the elementary schools, and the addition to the High School. He chaired the committee that recommended the purchase of Scout Field and helped plan the development of Radnor Field.
For 20 years Mr. Derham was a Little League trustee, player agent, coach, and manager. He was treasurer for the Midget Football League for seven years and he led an effort to expand the Little League complex to include two additional fields.
Mr. Derham played a leading role in the creation of the War Memorial at the High School.
He was a founder and trustee of The Robert Fulton Memorial Scholarship Fund and has served as chairman of the Selection Committee. This fund has provided financial assistance to many students throughout Southern New Jersey.
Mr. Derham served in the US Army with the 334th Infantry 84 Division 9th Army and participated in the defense of the Siegfried Line. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his actions during the Battle of the Bulge.

Funeral Service: Thursday, December 20 at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 200 Windsor Avenue.

FOX, William ('Bill')
George William “Bill” Fox, of Medford, died on December 1, 2007, aged 66.
Mr. Fox attended Haddonfield Memorial High School, and graduated from the Peddie School in Hightstown 1959. He was a 1963 graduate of Trinity College in Hartford CT.
Mr. Fox began his real estate career under his father’s guidance in 1963 with Fox and Lazo. He retired as chairman of the board of Prudential Fox and Roach Realtors in 2003.
Survivors: wife, Sandra (nee Williams); a son, G. William Jr. (Marianna) of Medford; three daughters, Tacie Fox (Michael Ratliff) of Washington DC, Liza Fox (Christopher) Lyons of Medford, and Sara Fox (Thomas Cutbush) of Philadelphia PA; a brother, Frederick S. III of Cherry Hill; two sisters, Mary Fox Zwally of Harrisburg PA, and Jane Fox of Mt. Laurel; eight grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Erik Williams of Haddonfield.

COSTIGAN, Lawrence P., Jr.
Lawrence P. Costigan, Jr. of Florence Township, formerly a longtime resident of Haddonfield, died on November 13, 2007, aged 64.
Survivors: wife, Roberta “Bobbi” (nee Giordano); daughter, Christine E. Carney (Robert) of Burlington Township; son. Lawrence P., III of Madison; 2 grandchildren; mother, Marion Costigan of Moorestown; 4 brothers, John (Jane) of Swainton, Patrick (Denise) of Moorestown, Thomas (Joann) of Woodbury, and Michael (Teresa) of Haddonfield; 1 sister, Catherine Baldwin (Timothy) of Bellmawr.
Predeceased by: father, Lawrence, Sr. and a sister, Rose Mary Dyer.
Mr. Costigan served with the 82nd Airborne of the US Army as a member of the Military Police. He was the owner of Costigan Plumbing Co., Inc., in Haddonfield, for nearly 30 years.

FIRMAN, William Francis
William F. Firman, a resident of Haddonfield, died on October 3, 2007, aged 76 yrs. He was predeceased by his first wife, the late Deanne.
Survivors: wife, Beutler; sons, Steve (Betty) and Paul (Stephanie); daughter, Elaine; brothers, Tony (Denise) and John (Carolyn); 5 grandchildren.
Mr. Firman attended Kutztown University, where he played football and baseball. He graduated from Drexel University after transferring. Serving in the Navy and reserves, he became a pilot. Flying was his passion and he continued as a private pilot until the past few years. In the 50s, he was a member of the Tri-Community Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps in West Chester PA, with his brothers. He was with Arthur H. Thomas Scientific for 40 years, managing the marketing efforts for the company. After retiring he worked for the Courier-Post and Borough of Haddonfield.

Mary N. Wurst (nee Yerger)
Mary N. Wurst (nee Yerger), a resident of Cherry Hill, formerly of Haddonfield, died on August 2, 2007, aged 83. She was the wife of the late Paul W. Wurst and the late T. Robert Machesney.
Survivors: son, Thomas R. Machesney (Mary) of Edgewood MD; daughter, Ellen L. Coleman (Paul) of Erie CO; 2 grandchildren.
Mrs. Wurst graduated from Quakertown High School and attended Moravian College. She held positions with IBM and Computer Sciences Corporation. She was a devoted and active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior for over 50 years, serving on the Church Council and planning events for senior citizens.
