Carmine L. Pantalone, 77, of Hammonton, died Friday, December 6, at Kessler Memorial Hospital. Born in Rosedale, he was an area resident all his life. Pantalone was a utility worker for Whitehall Laboratories in Hammonton until his retirement in 1990. He was a 50 yr. member and past President of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society, and founded the Mt. Carmel Society Band. He was a member of St. Joseph Holy Name Society, and a church usher; a former member of St. Joseph Booster Club. He was past President of Inskip Antlers Gun Club; an Army veteran of WWII serving with the 65th Infantry Division; a member of V.F.W. Post #1026 of Hammonton, a trustee of Winslow Fire Station 25-1. Pantalone was a graduate of Granoff Music School and a member of the Musicians Union. Surviving him are: wife, Rose (Sciotto); sons, Louis J. with wife Jo Ann, and Joseph C. with wife Olivia, all of Hammonton; grandchildren, Amy, Ashley, Joseph & Kyle. Sarah M. Crane (nee Giorno), 81, of Hammonton, died Friday, December 6, at William B. Kessler Hospital. Born in Italy, she was an area resident all her life. Crane was past President of St. Joseph Altar Rosary Society, former member of Hammonton Chapter of Deborah, and a volunteer at Kessler Memorial Hospital. She was a very active member of St. Joseph Parish. Surviving her are: daughter, Sally A. Mischlich of Hammonton; son, Wilmer E. Crane of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brothers, Mario Giorno of Vineland, Armando Giorno of Hammonton, and Rudy Giorno of Collings Lakes; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She retired from Temple University School of Pharmacy in 1982 as an Executive Secretary. Gino L. Cartica, 88, of Hammonton, died Tuesday, December 3, at Kessler Memorial Hospital. Born in Calascio, Italy, he lived in Hammonton for many years. Cartica was a retired Cement Mason for Union Local 780 of New York, N.Y. He served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant 2nd Battalion, 36th Field Artillery. Surviving him are: wife, Tina A. (nee Rossi); son, Robert J. of New Brunswick; daughter, Carol J. Tenenbaum of Hammonton; brothers, William of Hammonton and Walter of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Gladys Rossetti of Hammonton; grandchildren, Jeremy E. and Alissa A. Tenenbaum. Frank J. Gatto, 82, of Mcallen, Texas, died Saturday, April 19, in Mcallen Heart Hospital. He was the owner of Frank G. Gatto produce, which he founded in 1956. Gatto was a veteran of W.W.II, a member of the VFW Post 1086 of Hammonton, and the Hammonton Lions Club. Surviving him are: wife, Mary (nee Sinari); children, Frank, Linda, John and Jodi; sister, Ethel Cook; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Rita Marie Santora (nee Mortellite), 67, of Hammonton, died Tuesday, April 15, at her residence. A lifelong resident of Hammonton, she was a 1953 graduate of Hammonton High School. When her children were of school age, she became a bus driver for the Hammonton School District. She was employed as a bus driver at Sands Casino, and a supervisor dispatcher of limousine operations for Trump Properties. Her most recent employment was as a shuttle bus driver for Atlantic County Transportation. Surviving her are: husband, John; sons, John Jr. with wife Rosemary, and Mark; daughter, Lisa Rita Santora, all of Hammonton; brothers, Anthony and George Mortellite, all of Hammonton; sister, Angie DiMeglio of Elm; grandchildren, Erin and Johnny; family friend, Gaynell Jennette. Joseph A. Morganti Sr., 50, of Hammonton, died on Wednesday, April 16, at the Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. Morganti was the owner & operator of Eastern Traffic Marking Company. John B. DiDonato
John B. DiDonato, 75, of Fort Myers, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2003. Mr. DiDonato has born in Philadelphia and resided in Hammonton prior to moving to Florida in 1972. He was instrumental in starting DiDonato s Bowling Center with his brother, Tip, in 1952. John was known throughout the South Jersey area for his humor and witty ways. He was always willing to help anyone. John will be remembered for his love of sports. He was a pitcher in high school and also pitched for the semi-pro teams, Hammonton Peaches and Sunny Cut Rite Team of Philadelphia. Surviving him are: wife, Enid; stepsons, Gary Tipton with wife Kathy, Steve Tipton with wife Terri, Bruce Tipton with wife Leslie, all of Florida; brother, Tip DiDonato with wife Phyllis of Hammonton; sister, Mary Jane Short with husband Glenn of Florida; many nieces and nephews. Gordon Gary Geise, 60, of Hammonton, died Wednesday, September 17, at his residence. Born in Hammonton, he lived in Folsom most of his life but resided in Hammonton for the past two years. He was a 1960 graduate of Hammonton High School, attended the Newcomb Hospital School of Medical Technicians working as a technician for two years and in the microbiology department of Green Giant Corporation in Vineland for 16 years. He also worked for the Showboat Casino in both East Chicago, Ind. and Atlantic City. He last worked in the maintenance department of the Richard Stockton College for the past five years before retiring in 2003. He played the trumpet in the Egg Harbor Masonic Band, was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians, Society of American Magicians, and a lifetime member of the NRA. Surviving him are: wife, Sandra (nee Hughes); sons, Gordon Gary II of Washington, DC, Robert A. of Corbin City; mother, Alverta F. Geise of Vineland. Thomas Joseph Mikolajczak
Thomas Joseph Mikolajczak, 53, of Collings Lakes died suddenly at the Local 27 Union Sheet Metal School, Farmingdale. Born in Brooklyn and formerly of Mystic Islands, he lived in Collings Lakes the past 16 years. He attended Holy Name Grammar School and St. Francis Prep in Brooklyn. A member of Our Lady of the Lakes Church, Collings Lakes and the K of C. Tom volunteered in many of the church affairs and was active in many youth sports activities and a baseball Little League coach. He loved to bowl and fish. He also loved animals and was close to nature. He was employed by Local 27 Union of Sheet Metal Workers. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran during the Vietnam War and also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Surviving him are: wife, Eileen (nee Cosgrove); sons, Matthew Thomas of Agoura, Calif.; Timothy James at home; parents, Bernard and Katherine of Tuckerton; brother, Robert Steven of Little Egg Harbor. Angelo Berenato
Angelo Berenato, 86, of Hammonton died Friday, April 2, 2004 at his home. Born in Hammonton, he was a life long resident. A retired Postal Clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Hammonton, he retired in 1983 after 24 years. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, he enlisted in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He attained the rank of Tech. Sgt. and served with the 144th Signal Co. of Patton s 4th Armored Division. He received many combat ribbons and medals when he was at Normandy Beach, France and fought in six major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. His unit also liberated one of the more notorious concentration camps in Poland. Angelo was a member of the VFW Passalaqua Post 1086 in Hammonton and a member of the Shur-Line Beagle Club in Hammonton. Predeceased by: sister, Marie Perna. Katherine M. Scola, 96, died peacefully at home in Hammonton on March 30, 2004. Born October 9, 1907 Mrs. Scola was a lifelong resident of Hammonton and devoted to her home and family. She was one of nine children. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be joyfully remembered by many. Predeceased by husband: John E. James Maiuro
James Maiuro, 86, of Hammonton died March 31, 2004 at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton. Born in Elm, Winslow Twp., he liked to read books, magazines and current events. Mr. Maiuro was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran serving his country for 22 years during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He enlisted in 1937 and retired in 1959. He attained the rank of Chief Boilerman Engineer and served on eight different Naval Ships, the last one being the USS Saratoga. He then was employed as an engineer boilermaker at the CBS Record Company, Pitman, until he retired. Predeceased by: daughter, Stephanie in 2003; grandson, Mark in 1987. Mary E. Spiegel (nee Pigott), 93, of Hammonton died November 23, 2004 at The Heritage Assisted Living surrounded by her close family members, caring staff and hospice. Prior to living at The Heritage, she had resided for more than 10 years with her loving daughter and son-in-law, Peg and Mitch Hitman, in Hammonton who will miss her deeply. Born and raised in Cedar Brook, Mary was a player. She spent her teen years in Ocean City where she played violin in the orchestra and all the sports that girls were allowed to play, which included roller skating, marbles, hockey, basketball and swimming. She loved the water and once saved a person from drowning. In her middle years she loved to play games with her grandchildren, cook for family gatherings, volunteer at Shore Memorial Hospital, knit, crochet, swim, boat and fish with her husband. In later years in Venice, Fla., she enjoyed playing in the Ridgewood Park Kitchen Band that entertained at nursing homes, dancing at the Elks Lodge, playing the organ, ukulele, cards, shuffleboard, reading, and making afghans for family members. Predeceased by: husband, David in 1991 after 60 years of marriage; son, Robert in 1996 both of Venice, Fla.; brother, F. Willis Pigott in 1941; parents, Harry and Erma (nee Davis). Surviving her are: granddaughters, Debra Eberly and her husband Chris of Warrenton, Va., Tamara Mailhot and her husband Andre of Oxford, Mass.; grandsons, Samuel Hitman of Denver, Harry Spiegel and his partner Cheryl Volta of Berlin, Mark Spiegel and his wife Patty of Cedar Brook; sister Elizabeth Alkazin and her husband William; nieces, Becky Stock and her husband Bruce also of Cedar Brook, Mary Conrad and her husband Ron of Altoona; daughter-in-law, Kay Spiegel and her partner Edgar Gay of Venice, Fla., many new friends from The Heritage, staff and caregivers; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew Mailhot, Alex, Jacob, Leah Eberly, Kelsey, Zack Spiegel, Katie, Samantha, Robbie Spiegel. Ryan Maier
Ryan Maier (our beloved Tyke), 35, after a lengthy illness went home to be with the Lord. He was employed by the New Jersey Carpenters Union Local 393. He loved to play golf and enjoyed watching boxing and NASCAR. He had a heart of gold and will be sadly missed. Angelo J. (Buddy) Cappuccio Sr.
Angelo J. (Buddy) Cappuccio Sr., 73, of Hammonton died Saturday, November 27, 2004 at home. Born in Hammonton, he was an area resident all his life. He was class president and a graduate of Hammonton High School class of 1949 and Temple Technical School. He served in the United States Navy as a Musicians 3rd Class during the Korean War. While in the Navy, he was a member of the Sixth Fleet Band under Admiral Cassidy s Personal Band. He was the owner of Music America store in Hammonton. Mr. Cappuccio played upright bass and saxophone with the Hal Davis Orchestra, Jonathan s Orchestra, Joe Dale Big Band, Doctor s of Rhythm, and many other groups. He was a member of the Vineland Local of American Federation Union and member of Delaware Valley Musician Club. He recently formed his own Buddy Cee s Little Big Band, which consisted of nine pieces. He also enjoyed flying which he did for many years. Predeceased by: parents, Anthony and Agnes; sister, Grace Tomasello, Rose Ann Evangelesti. Dr. Alois Toegel, MD
Dr. Alois Toegel, MD, 84, of Ewing Township died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at home. Born in Sternberg, Germany, he lived in Ewing since 1972. He formerly lived in the Ancora section of Winslow Township. He was a psychiatrist and clinical director for Ancora Psychiatric Hospital. Dr. Toegel also worked at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital and Byberry Hospital. He received his medical degree at the University of Graz in Austria. Dr. Toegel was a member of the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association. Surviving him are: wife, Maria (nee Fressner); sons, Kurt Toegel and his wife Patricia of Chicopee, Mass., Han Toegel and his wife Phyllis of Milford, Mass.; daughter, Ursula Santora and her husband Rocco of Hammonton; grandchildren, Brian Toegel, Greg Toegel, Rocco T. Mary Sago
Mary Sago, 91, of Somers Point and formerly of Malaga died Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Ocean Point Health Care Center, Somers Point. Mrs. Sago was born in Charlestown, W. Va. She worked in many hospitals and nursing homes as a housekeeper. Mary also worked in private homes as a housekeeper. Predeceased by: husband, Ivory Sago. Surviving her is: longtime friend and caretaker, Mary Ellen Frederikson. Robert J. Ford
Robert J. Ford, 79, of Hammonton, passed away peacefully at his residence on June 27, 2005. Born in Hammonton, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Ford was a salesman and retired from the Sears & Roebuck Company in Vineland. He also worked at the Greenberg Clothing Company of Hammonton before he joined the United States Navy during World War II serving in the South Pacific Theater on a PT boat. He was a member of the Hammonton Senior Citizens Club and the PT Boat Association of Memphis, Tenn. He loved his duty on PT boats and also fishing and traveling. Surviving him are: wife, Helen Ford (nee Arena); sisters, Rita Smith of Hammonton, Esther Castellano of Turnersville; brother, Leon of Hammonton; several nieces and nephews. Catherine M. Lane (Scaffidi)
Catherine M. Lane (Scaffidi), 82, of Hammonton, formerly of Easton, Pa., passed away on July 1, 2005, at home surrounded by loving family. Catherine was born in Pomona, raised in Hammonton and lived in Easton, Pa. for 40 years before recently returning to Hammonton. Catherine was a registered nurse graduating from West Jersey Hospital (Helene Fuld) in 1943. She was employed at Betts Hospital in Easton, Pa. for more than 30 years and practiced her profession with pride, love and dignity. She was also a member of the Helene Fuld School of Nursing Alumni Association. Catherine was an exceptional nurse with a calming manner, who always placed top priority on patient care and comfort. Catherine is predeceased by her husband Gordon Lane and her parents Mary (Jarolle) and William Scaffidi. She is survived by her brother Anthony and his wife Rita Scaffidi and her sister Annabel and her husband Richard Mitchell both of Hammonton. She is also survived by several nieces and grandnieces and nephews. Carmen F. Comperatore
Carmen F. Comperatore, 79, died January 16, 2006, at home after a short illness. He enjoyed playing cards, bocce and horseshoes as well as watching TV and listening to music. He was a dedicated parishioner at Our Lady of Victory Church. He also enjoyed traveling. Mr. Comperatore was a wholesaler of produce and plants for 60 years. He owned his own business Carmen s Flowers and Produce. He will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit. Predeceased by: brothers, Dominick, Joe, Tony, and Frank Comperatore. Charles L. Duble Jr.
Charles L. Duble Jr., 89, of Cedar Brook died January 17, 2006 at Virtua Health Systems in Berlin. Born in Cedar Brook, he was a lifelong resident there. Before retiring, Mr. Duble worked as a custodian for Edgewood High School in Winslow Township. Mr. Duble was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed doing yard work and caring for his cat, Kitty. He was a member of the Indian Mills Gun Club, the Cedar Brook Gun Club, and was an exempt member of the Cedar Brook Fire Company. Predeceased by: wife, Eleanor Duble (nee Sykes.) Surviving him are: daughter, Connie DeLucca and her husband Anthony of Hammonton; son, C. JoHanna Mary Triboletti, 59, of Bridgeton, died January 12, 2006. Born in Philadelphia, she lived in Hammonton for most of her life before moving to Bridgeton two years ago. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School. She worked as a bartender for Old Vineland Tavern for over seven years. Predeceased by: parents, Edmond and Anna Triboletti. Alexander J. Farren
Alexander J. Farren, 94, of Hammonton, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2006, at home. Born in Dolina, Poland, Alex grew up in Devonshire, N.J. and lived in Hammonton most of his life. He graduated with high honors from Hammonton High School in 1930. Alex worked many years as a manager at Morgan s gas station on the White Horse Pike in Hammonton and was a subsequent co-owner of Morgan s Pump and Tank Company. Alex was a member of St. Joseph s Holy Name Society and a member of St. Martin de Porres R.C. Church in Hammonton. He was a faithful worker at St. Martin s bingo night. Mr. Farren was a Fourth Degree Member of the St. Vincent Pallotti Knights of Columbus Council #2471 and a Faithful Navigator from 1970 1971. Bernice C. Tully (nee Piscitelli), 61, of Atco, died January 17, 2006, after a 16 year courageous battle with non-Hodgkin s lymphoma. Born in Hammonton, she was a resident of Atco for more than 30 years. Mrs. Tully was vice president of Community Management Service Group, Orleans Home Builders in Bensalem. She was a member of Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Atco. Predeceased by: father, Frank Piscitelli. Surviving her are: husband, Albert J.
