Anthony J. Blahut
The funeral of Anthony J. Blahut of 726 Plum Street, who died Tuesday in
St. Francis Hospital, will be held tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. from the
Kowalski Funeral Home, 868 Brunswick Avenue. Requiem high mass will be
celebrated at 9 in St. Joseph's Church and interment will be in St.
Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call this afternoon and evening.

Mrs. Frank Tainter, 82, Resident of Far Hills
FAR HILLS - Susan B. Tainter, 82, of Lake road widow of Colonel Frank S.
Tainter, died Monday in her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Tainter was born in New York State, the daughter of the late Edward
and Ada Bayard Rychman. She had lived in Far Hills more than 50 years
and was a member of St. John's on the Mountain Episcopal Church. There
are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Princeton
Cemetery, Princeton, by the Rev. John D. Wing, rector of St. John's on
the Mountain Church.

Carlisle Shafer
FINDERNE - Carlisle Shafer, 59, of 10 Thomas St., died unexpectedly
today (August 8, 1967) in his home. He had been employed by American
Cyanamid in Bound Brook.
Mr. Shafer was born in Mountain Top, Pa., and lived here 28 years. He
was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Somerville Aerie 2137;
BPO Elks, Manville Lodge 2119, and the Finderne Reformed Church.
He leaves his widow, Kathryn Blahut Shafer; a son, Kenneth of the Thomas
St. address; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shafer of Zarephath; two
sisters, Mrs. Zella Silett and Mrs. Irel Truitt, also of Zarephath; a
brother, Olin of Virginia, and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Taggart-Chamberlain
Funeral Home in Bound Brook. Interment will be in Bound Brook Cemetery.
The Eagle lodge will hold a service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, and the Elks
lodge will hold a service at 8 p.m. Friends and relatives may call at
the funeral home from 2-4 and from 7-9 p.m. tomorrow and Thursday.

Kenneth Melvin Shafer, food broker for 40 years
BRIDGEWATER - Kenneth Melvin Shafer, 61, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) at
Mountainside Hospital in Montclair.
Born in Somerville, he lived all his life in Bridgewater. He also
maintained a home in Tuckerton where he spent weekends and summers. He
was a food broker for 40 years for H.C. Boerner, which later became
Marketing Specialists in Montclair.
He was a graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick and was a
member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Mr. Shafer was a former
member of the Beach Haven Yacht Club. He also sold fruits and
vegetables on weekends at the old Packard's Farmers' Market in
Hillsborough for 38 years, until it's closing in the 1990s. He was an
avid league bowler in the central New Jersey area.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Taggart-Chamberlain
Funeral Home, 305 E. High St., Bound Brook. There will be no calling

William E. Brokaw, Native of Borough
NUTLEY- William E. Brokaw, 53, of 597 Prospect avenue, a native of
Somerville, died Sunday night in the Newark Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Mr. Brokaw began his career with Public Service Electric & Gas Company
in the Somerville office in 1920. He worked in the New Brunswick office
and later was manager in Rahway. He next served as manager of the East
Orange office and at the time of his death was division commercial
manager of the Passaic County area.
Mr. Brokaw was a member of the First Reformed Church of Somerville. He
also was chairman of the Paterson Area Community Chest drive, a director
of the Second National Bank of Orange and a member of the Rotary Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elsie Graef Brokaw; his mother, Mrs. Alberta Brokaw of Somerville, and two sisters, Mrs. William R. Sutphen
and Mrs. John F. Haynes, both of Somerville.
Private services were held Tuesday in the Sutphen Funeral Home,
Somerville. Dr. David R. Evans, pastor of the First Reformed Church,
officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family.

Miss Mary Voorhees, 81, Retired Church Organist
MIDDLEBUSH- Miss Mary Amanda Voorhees, 81, a life-long resident of this
community, died Monday in her home on Front street after an illness of
several months.
A teacher of piano, Miss Voorhees was organist 25 years at the Reformed
Church until her retirement a few years ago. She was the daughter of
the late J. Newton and Amanda Alcott Voorhees. There are no immediate
survivors.
Funeral services were held yesterday in the Reformed Church, the Rev.
Vernon Dethmrs, pastor, and the Rev. John Langwith of Annandale, former
pastor, officiating. Interment was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Thomas Lovetri, Was Blacksmith
RARITAN - Thomas Lovetri, 72, of 9 Second avenue, a blacksmith, died
Tuesday in Somerset Hospital after an illness of several months. He was
the husband of the late Frances Marsilio Lovetri.
Born in Italy, Mr. Lovetri came here 55 years ago. He was employed by
D.R. Kenyon & Sons as a blacksmith and was a member of St. Rocco's
Society and a communicant of St. Ann's Church.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph and Nicholas Lovetri of Raritan and
Carmine Lovetri of Bridgewater Township; three daughters, Mrs. Louis
Viola of Plainfield, Mrs. Charles Gianotti of Raritan and Mrs. Nicholas
Rosania of Whitehouse Station, and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the Bongiovi Funeral Home
and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ann's Church where a solemn mass of requiem will
be offered by the Rev. Charles LaCavera, pastor. Burial will be in St.
Bernard's Cemetery.

Isaac V.P. Selover
South Amboy - Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the
home for Isaac V.P. Selover of 254 Second St. Interment will be in
Christ Church Cemetery.
Mr. Selover, father of Mrs. Beatrice Ganss of Fanwood, died Wednesday at
the age of 78. His widow, and a sister also survive.

Westfield - Funeral services for Ernest L. Marston, 70, of 450 Mountain
Ave., were held yesterday afternoon in Gray's Funeral Home with the Rev.
J.L. McCorison Jr., C.C., pastor of the First Congregational Church,
officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Marston died Monday in his home after a long illness. He was the
husband of Mrs. Emma L. Marston.

Uriah Coleman, 76, Retired from RR
Uriah Coleman, 76, of 61 Mercer street, a retired employe(sic) of the
Central Railroad of New Jersey, died yesterday in his home.
Born in Roycefield, he was a life-long resident of this area. He
retired nine years ago as superintendent of parks and gardens for the
Central Railroad. He had been employed by the railroad for 42 years.
Mr. Coleman was a member of Ivanhoe Council, JrOUAM, and was active 50
years in the First Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lottie Conners Coleman; a son, Clarence N.
Coleman of Fitchville, Conn.; four grandchildren, and a brother, William
Coleman of New Egypt.
Services will be held in his home Saturday at 3 p.m., the Rev. Harold B.
Wright, pastor of the First Methodist Church, and the Rev. A.N. Smith,
former pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Old Cemetery.

Frank Vitelli Dies at 60
Frank A. Vitelli of 152 Westervelt Ave., part owner of the Greenbrook
Bottling Co., Green Brook Rd., died last night (Sept. 30, 1954) at
home. Born in Bound Brook 60 years ago, he had lived in the borough 43
years.
Mr. Vitelli's father, the late Frank A. Vitelli Sr., founded the
bottling company in 1912. The present partnership, organized in 1930,
consists also of four other brothers, James, Joseph, Anthony and Dennis.
The deceased was a member of Ball-Kirch Post, American Legion, and a
communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
In addition to his brothers, he leaves his widow, Mrs. Julia Cunniff
Vitelli; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Bremere of Middlesex Borough and Miss
Carmella at home; four sons, Frank Jr. of Middlesex Borough, John,
Joseph and Anthony at home; three grandchildren.
The Scarpa Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Milton R. Smith
Annandale - Funeral services for Milton R. Smith, 84, of West St., a
retired farmer, who died Tuesday (Sept. 28, 1954) in Elizabeth General
Hospital where he had been a patient for a week, will be held today at 2
p.m. at the Naughright Funeral Home, High Bridge. The Rev. F. Alvin
Langwith, pastor of Annandale Reformed Church, will officiate.
Interment will be in the cemetery adjoining Lebanon Methodist Church.
Surviving are his widow, the former Annabelle Smith; four daughters, a
sister, nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith
retired from farming nine years ago after operating a farm near Bray's
Hill for more than 30 years.

Mrs. John V. Wells
Mrs. Myrtle Marjorie Stranzenbach Wells, wife of John V. Wells of 27
Everett Pl., died yesterday (Sept. 30, 1954) at Muhlenberg Hospital.
Born in North Plainfield 41 years ago, she had lived there the last 16
years and before that in the borough.
Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Edward Stranzenbach of Martinsville;
a brother, Fred Stranzenbach of Rahway; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Gutman of
Westfield and Mrs. Henry Maritz of Martinsville.
Services will be at the Memorial Funeral Home Sunday at 3 p.m. in charge
of Dr. John Y. Broek of Trinity Reformed Church. Burial will be in the
Bound Brook Cemetery Monday morning. Friends may call at the funeral
home after 12 noon tomorrow.

Daniel J. McCarthy
Bernardsville - Daniel J. McCarthy, 8 Olcott Ave., park superintendent
here, died yesterday (Sept. 30, 1954) in All Souls Hospital, Morristown,
after a short illness.
He was the husband of Margaret McInerney McCarthy. Born in Limerick,
Ireland, he came to the United States in 1912. He was a member of Our
Lady of Perpetual Help Church, the Holy Name Society, and Knights of
Columbus, Bernardsville.
Other survivors are: a daughter, Miss Mary McCarthy at home; two
brothers, Thomas of New York and William of Astoria, L.I. Another son,
Daniel Jr., was killed in World War 2.
Services will be held Monday 9:20 a.m. at Gallaway and Crane Funeral
Home, 9 Church St., followed by a Solemn High Requiem Mass at 10 a.m. in
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Interment will be at Holy Cross cemetery at Basking Ridge.

Frank W. Mastrian
Westfield - Frank W. Mastrian, 640 North Ave. West, died this morning
(Oct. 1, 1954) in Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, after a brief
illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Alice Mauser Mastrian.
He was born in Westfield and had lived here all his life. He was a
member of the Local 675, I.B.E.W. of Elizabeth, and had been an
elecricican all his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Also surviving are two sons, Frank J. Mastrian of 1341 Sunnyside Pl.,
Plainfield, and William Joseph with the Air Force in Bermuda; two
brothers, James Mastrian, 1215 George St., and Michael Mastrian, 1230 E.
Front St., both Plainfield; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Shirley of Los
Angeles, Mrs. Joseph Valentino, 188 Terrill Rd., Scotch Plains, and Miss
Edith Mastrian 723 Arlington Ave., Plainfield.
His mother, Mrs. Joseph Mastrian, also lives at 188 Terrill Rd., Scotch
Plains.
Funeral services will be held in Gray's Funeral Home Monday at 10:30
a.m. with the Rev. Robert E. Gates Jr. of the First Baptist Church
officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery."

Mrs. Herman Hageman
South Bound Brook - Mrs. Leona Hodge Hageman, 67, 130 Clinton St., died
yesterday (Sept. 30, 1954) at her home. She was the wife of Herman D.
Hageman.
Mrs. Hageman was a member of the Reformed Church and president of its
Women's Bible Class. She was also a member of the LAS, YMA Auxiliary of
the church and Bound Brook Chapter 94, Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Harold A. Hageman of
Wilmington, Del., and Maurice H. Hageman of Hightstown; a daughter, Mrs.
Henry Vogel of Lake Worth, Fla.; a brother, Leonard H. Hodge, 1522 W.
Fourth St., Plainfield, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the
Taggart-Chamberlain Funeral Home, Bound Brook. In charge will be the
Rev. Daniel U. Smith, pastor of the Reformed Church, and the Rev. L.L.
Leaver, retired pastor. Interment will be in Bound Brook Cemetery.

A High Requiem Mass for John Francis Galbraith if 540 W. Sixth St. was
celebrated yesterday at St. Mary's Church by the Rev. Harold V. Colgan.
The Children's Choir sang the responses and Miss Mary Smith was
organist. Interment followed in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South
Plainfield. Mr. Galbraith, a retired plumber, died Tuesday. The
Memorial Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Joseph Winiski
Funeral services were held yesterday in the Scarpa Funeral Home for Mrs.
Florence Edna Winiski, wife of Joseph Winiski of 354 Somerset St., who
died Monday at home. The Rev. Earl E. Hair of the Watchung Avenue
Presbyterian Church officiated and burial took place in Hillside
Cemetery. Bearers were Anthony Oliveri, Albert Gaub, Tulio Caperelli,
Louis Baldini, Thomas Akalewicz and Ray Kubian.

Whitehouse Station - Stanley Plesnarski, 56, of Pulaski Rd., died
yesterday (Sept. 30, 1954) at home. Born in Poland, he came to this
country 41 years ago and had lived here the past nine years. He was a
former Jersey City resident.
Mr. Plesnarski was employed by Diehl Manufacturing Co., Finderne. He
was a member of its Employes(sic) Independent Union.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lottie Plesnarski; four children, Stanley
and Mrs. Stanley Adamczyk, both of this place; Eleanor and Lucille at
home, and a brother, Paul, Jersey City.
The funeral will be Monday at 8:30 a.m. from the Bongiovi Funeral Home,
Raritan Borough, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Bound Brook,
where a Solemn Requiem Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in St.
Bernard's Cemetery, Raritan.
