Leontine "Lee" P. Klem
Mrs. Klem, 76, of Little Silver died Feb. 17 at home following a lengthy illness. Born in New York City, she resided in Rumson prior to moving to Little Silver. She was the director of public relations and fund-raising at MCOSS, Red Bank, for 11 years, retiring in 1987. Prior to that, while attending college, she worked in television, and while at NBC Television Studios she became and first and youngest female producer/director in television, working on shows such as "Your Show of Shows." She was a member of Holy Cross Church, Rumson, where she was a lector. She also served as a member of the church’s finance committee and the Holy Cross School Board of Education. She acted with various local groups such as the Monmouth Players. She was an active volunteer for the Monmouth County Junior League, and the Parker Clinic and Aslan Youth Ministries, both Red Bank. Mrs. Klem is survived by her husband of 49 years, John F. Klem; three daughters, Jeanne Shanley and Lisa Klem Wilson, both of Rumson, and Leontine Klem of New York City; a son, John P. Klem of Port Richmond, Calif.; two brothers, Eugene Painton of Rockville Center, N.Y., and Harry Painton of Walnut Creek, Calif.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Alan Winfield Wood
Mr. Wood, 80, of Tinton Falls died Feb. 18 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Long Branch, he resided in the Lincroft section of Middletown before moving to Tinton Falls. He was employed at System Development Corp., Eatontown, for 10 years. Prior to that, he was a human factors engineer at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown. Mr. Wood was a member of the United Methodist Church of Red Bank. He was a member of the Senior Walkers of the Monmouth County Park System, the American Littoral Society, and Experimental Aircraft Association. He was predeceased by two brothers, Preston G. Wood and Robert A. Wood; and a sister, Grace W. Stothart. He is survived by his wife of 54 yeas, Margaret E. Wood; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana W. and Ferdinand Gentile of Interlaken, and Laurel W. and Richard C. Ramsden of Mont Clare, Pa.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Claire W. Johnson of West Long Branch, and Lois W. and John Keevil of Oceanport; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at United Methodist Church of Red Bank, followed by interment at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch. Patricia Tomaino
Miss Tomaino, 81, of Red Bank died Jan. 26 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She worked in the family business, Tomaino’s Liquors. Prior to that, she was employed at Fort Monmouth, retiring in 1977, and with the federal government in Washington, D.C. She was a parishioner at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She enjoyed traveling. She was predeceased by a brother, Pasquale. She is survived by a brother, Alphonso Tomaino; a sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Eugene Laboissonniere; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Dolores R. Oakerson
Mrs. Oakerson, 92, of Red Bank died Jan. 31 at home. Born in Long Branch, she resided there prior to relocating to Red Bank. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, where she was a member of its Catholic Daughters and Rosary Altar Society. She was active in the Woman’s Club of the Little Silver Library. She enjoyed time with her family, and the beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles L. Oakerson in 1966; and a daughter, Carol La Motte in 1992. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Diane Fleming of Bowie, Md., and Elaine Thorndike of New York City; a son, William C. Harold E. "Bud" Brown
Mr. Brown, 86, of North Brunswick died Feb. 19 at home. Born in Belgrade Lakes, Maine, he resided in Highland Park before moving to North Brunswick 40 years ago. He was a first class machinist at Johnson & Johnson, North Brunswick, for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was also a member of the company’s 25 Year Club. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Joyce Kilmer Post No. 25, Milltown. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Myra Hulse Brown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Jeffrey Markowitz of South Brunswick, Myra and Richard Strucek of Brielle, and Wendy Anne and Jaime Fierros of Tinton Falls; two sons and daughters-in-law, William D. and Fran Wikoff Jr. of Hightstown, and Bruce and Marjorie H. Mary J. LeCardi
Mrs. LeCardi, 76, of Fair Haven died Feb. 20 at home. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she resided there before moving to Fair Haven 32 years ago. Mrs. LeCardi was a homemaker. She was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a member of Fair Haven Fire Company No. 1 Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and dancing. She was predeceased by a son, James LeCardi, in 1976, and a sister, Anne Caggiano, in 1990. Mrs. LeCardi is survived by her husband, Gerard J. Helen V. Hill
Miss Hill, 94, of Red Bank died Dec. 6 at Bayside Manor Assisted Living, Keansburg. Born in Jersey City, she resided there for 77 years prior to moving to Shadow Lake Village, Red Bank, in 1986. She was an executive secretary at American Export Lines Inc., New York City, for 34 years, retiring in 1976. Prior to that, she was a secretary at First National Bank of Jersey City for 15 years. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, and a former parishioner at St. Aloysius Church, Jersey City. She enjoyed time with her family, traveling to Ireland, and bingo. Scott L. Koerkel
Mr. Koerkel, 36, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Dec. 8 at home. Born in Belleville, he had been a resident of Middletown for the past 30 years. He was a construction foreman at Frank McBride Co., Edison, for 10 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He enjoyed boating and fishing. Mr. Koerkel is survived by his wife, Stacey Zimmerman Koerkel; a daughter and son, Alexandria and Thomas Koerkel, both at home; his parents, Sandra Sanns Koerkel and Thomas Koerkel, of Red Bank; a sister, Regina Koerkel of Red Bank; his grandmother, Florence Conticchio of Red Bank; his mother- and father-in-law, Barbara and Edward Zimmerman of Holmdel; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; three nephews; and one niece. William "Willie" Marra
Mr. Marra, 76, of Oakhurst died Dec. 28 at home. Born in Long Branch, he had been a lifetime resident of the area. Mr. Marra was a butcher for Dearborn Farms, Holmdel, for the past 15 years. He also had worked for Nannini’s Food Market, West Long Branch, and Fred’s Meat Market, Marra’s Meat Market and Mia’s Market, all of Long Branch. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Eatontown Elks, the Neptune Hose Company of the Long Branch Fire Department, and the Poplar Village Senior Citizens. Mr. Marra was predeceased by a sister, Mary DeSantis. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Susan Marra of West Long Branch; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Robert Roxey of Oakhurst; two brothers, Frank Marra of Oceanport and Pat Anastasio of Long Branch; a sister, Barbara Aschettino of West Long Branch; and four grandchildren. Janet K. Huxley Kwasniak
Mrs. Kwasniak, 58, of Long Branch died Dec. 21 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was employed at Welsh Farms convenience store, Long Branch. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2140, Long Branch. She enjoyed football and was a Green Bay Packers fan. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Frances Banks, in 1996; and her father, Francis Huxley. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Walter F. Kwasniak of Long Branch; a son, Robert F. Kwasniak of Augusta, Ga.; a daughter, Melissa Ann Kwasniak of Long Branch; her mother, Marion Huxley of Massachusetts; a brother, William Huxley of Middle Borough, Md.; three sisters, Carol Huxley and Mary Ellen Huxley of Middle Borough, Md., and Gerie Huxley of Florida; and one grandchild. Mary A. McIntyre Mason
Mrs. Mason, 84, of Keyport died Feb. 2 at Manor Convalescent Center, Freehold. Born in County Donegal, Ireland, she came to the United States and resided in Pittsburgh and Hazlet prior to moving to Keyport. She was a retired supervisor and manager of the credit union at Lanvin Charles of the Ritz, Holmdel. She served with the U.S. Marine Corps as a gunnery instructor at the Marine Air Base, El Centro, Calif., during World War II. She was a communicant of both St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and Jesus the Lord Roman Catholic Church, both Keyport. She enjoyed rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and trips to Atlantic City. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest F. Mason, in 1992. She is survived by three sons, Brian Mason of Freehold, Ernest F. Mason Jr. of Little Silver, and Kevin Mason of Spring Lake; her brother, Bud McIntyre of Pittsburgh; her sister, Theresa Fisher-Keller of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Richard Pinsley
Mr. Pinsley, 82, of Rumson died Jan. 13 at home. Raised in Chicago, he resided in Rumson for more than 60 years. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel with more than 28 years of service. Following retirement, he held several positions in sales, engineering and construction. He was a member of B’nai Israel of Rumson. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. Following his commission, he attended advanced training in the Signal Corps and was one of the first 10 officers trained in experimental Instrument Landing System. He was then attached to the Eighth Air Force in England to install the system and train crews, and also installed the system for the Atlantic Transport Service, Scotland, and the Royal Air Force. He completed studies at the Air Force Command and Staff College, and served as a reserve squadron training officer. He is survived by his wife, Doris Kislin Pinsley of Rumson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shawn Pinsley Illo and Frank Illo; and Blair Pinsley Richter and Kurt Richter; and three grandchildren.
