GERALDINE JEAN CRAPARO, 70, of Middletown died Aug. 18 at home. Born in Newark, she lived in the Belford section of Middletown and East Keansburg prior to moving to Middletown. She was a crossing guard for the Middletown school system for several years. She was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, William Craparo of Middletown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Ann Craparo of Middletown, and Ruth and Christopher Andersen of the New Monmouth section of Middletown; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be Aug. 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be Aug. 22 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be offered Aug. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
JERRY J. MONACO, 53, of Middletown died Aug. 18 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived there until moving to Middletown 26 years ago. He was a senior client services representative at Automatic Data Processing, Jersey City, the past 18 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was an avid basketball player and coach. He coached and refereed the St. Mary’s Athletic Association basketball team, as well as the Middletown Youth Athletic Association basketball team. He was predeceased by his father, Jerry Monaco; and his mother, Josephine Rossi. He is survived by his wife, Angela Trezza Monaco of Middletown; his son, Jerry Thomas Monaco of Middletown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Roseanne Monaco, and Dennis and JoAnn Monaco, all of Middletown; his parents-in-law, Thomas and Angela Trezza of Brooklyn; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Aug. 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. KENNETH C. VAN SCHAACK, 46, of Middletown died Aug. 18 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Piscataway, he lived there until moving to Middletown 21 years ago. He was the owner and operator of Middletown Driving School, and worked there for 12 years. An avid soccer player and coach, he served as an associate national staff instructor at the NSCAA the past eight years, and was a soccer coach at Middletown High School South until 2000. He also coached soccer teams at Raritan High School, Hazlet; Monmouth University, W. Long Branch; Shore Regional High School, West Long Branch; and Mater Dei High School, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carolyn Wernstedt Van Schaack of Middletown; his son, Eric C. Van Schaack of Middletown; his daughter, Allison K. Van Schaack of Middletown; his sister, Karen L. Nobbs of Neshanic Station; his mother, Catherine Rauf of Manchester. Visitation will be Aug. 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. STELLA M. DOYLE WENTWORTH, 86, of Middletown died Aug. 18 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in McKenzie County, N.D., she lived in Matawan, Hazlet and the Belford section of Middletown prior to moving to Middletown five years ago. She was a member of the Belford United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Monmouth County Chapter No. 251, Eastern Star, Atlantic Highlands. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Wentworth in 1974. She is survived by her daughter, Diana J. Wentworth of Middletown; two sons, Wayne R. Wentworth of Port Norris, and Arnold R. Wentworth of Whiting; her sister, Essie Heidel of Middletown; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be Aug. 21 at 9:30 a.m. at John F. MARGARET JONES, 79, of Hazlet died Aug. 5 at Bayshore Health Center, Holmdel. Born in Newark, she lived there until moving to Hazlet 34 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Willard F. Jones in 1996. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charles Yanchosky of Union Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Keyport.
RAYMOND J. ZGORZYNSKI, 55, of the New Monmouth section of Middletown, died Aug. 4 at home. Born in Kearny, he resided in New Monmouth the past 24 years. He was a metrics consultant for PSE&G, Newark, for 35 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of sergeant. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth J. McColgan Zgorzynski of New Monmouth; his daughter, Lauren Zgorzynski of Middletown; his mother, Valerie Kowal of North Arlington; and his sister, Arlene Perkowski of Montville. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
FRANCES MICHAELS, 92, of Whiting died Aug. 1 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Born in Palermo, Italy, she resided in Queens, N.Y., prior to moving to Whiting 26 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Michaels in 1986; her daughter, Virginia Rentz in 1982; a brother, Joseph Perna; and two sisters, Grace Heath and Vita Alexio. She is survived by two sons, Robert Michaels of Aberdeen, and Peter Michaels of Flanders; her sister, Rose Mullen of Connecticut; her brother, Charles Perna of Millburn, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. LILY E. KREISS, 72, of Old Bridge died Aug. 1 in Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls, N.Y. She was employed as a lunch supervisor at Cheesequake School, Old Bridge. A son, Ronald Proudman, died in 1978. Surviving are her husband, Walter R. Kreiss; three sons, Mark Proudman of Matawan, Barry Proudman of Sayreville and David Proudman of Dallas; a daughter, Tracy Pulaski of Old Bridge; and three grandchildren. A requiem Eucharist was offered at Christ Episcopal Church, South Amboy. Interment
was in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
JONATHAN VALENTINE, 19, of Freehold Township died Aug. 9 from injuries sustained in a car accident last week in Howell. Born in St. Louis Park, Minn., he moved to Freehold in 1984. He graduated in the top 5 percent of his class from St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, in 2001, where he was a member of the soccer, wrestling and track teams. He completed his freshman year at Lafayette College, Easton, Pa., where he played rugby. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. Surviving are his parents, Michael and Ana Valentine; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Yerana; a sister, Lisa; paternal grandfather, Arthur; family members Matt and Yeralis Knice; many friends; and many family members in Venezuela. A funeral Liturgy will be offered 10 a.m. today at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Freehold Township, followed by burial at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. RALPH P. SANTORO, 75, of Middletown died Aug. 3 at home. Born in Jersey City, he moved to Middletown 30 years ago. He was a retired inspector for Hansane and Sons, Rahway, where he was employed for 12 years. Prior to that, he was a toll collector for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority for several years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He played minor league baseball for the Jersey City Destroyers. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Santoro. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Faye Pilla Santoro of Middletown; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ralph J. and Wendy Santoro of Martinsville, Robert and Kelly Santoro of Middletown, and Michael J. Santoro of Red Bank; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Salvatore Falcone of Middletown; a brother, Frank Sanders of Toms River; a sister, Cecilia Hendrickson of Arizona; and six grandchildren.
