FLORENCE G. BODZIAK, 82, of Hazlet died July 15 at home. Born in Matawan, she lived there prior to moving to Hazlet 47 years ago. She was a teacher at Matawan High School, retiring after 35 years. Prior to that, She was employed at Fort Monmouth for a short period of time. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Bodziak Sr. She is survived by her son, John F. Bodziak Jr. of Hazlet; and two brothers, Jim Siano of Virginia, and Ben Siano of Matawan. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment
was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
WILLIAM H. POTTER JR., 84, of Middletown died July 15 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Holmdel, he was a lifelong resident of Monmouth County, residing in Holmdel and Middletown. In 1935, he and his father founded W.H. Potter & Son Farm and power equipment sales and service, Middletown, where he worked for 63 years. He was a deacon and elder emeritus at the Middletown Reformed Church. He was a founding member of the Middletown Rotary Club, as well as a member of the Farmers and Gardeners Association of New Jersey, and a former trustee and president of the board at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marguerite Greenwood Potter of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, William H. and Marlys Potter III, and Robert S. and Kathleen Potter, all of Middletown; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was offered at Middletown Reformed Church. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
WILLIAM T. BIRK JR., 20, of Middletown died July 16 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Bayonne, he lived in Middletown since 1984. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. A graduate of Middletown High School North, he was a student at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Mary and Charles Birk. He is survived by his parents, William T. and Concetta Marino Birk Sr. of Middletown; his sister and brother, Barbara and Justin Birk of Middletown; and his maternal grandparents, Barbara and Joseph Drew of Middletown. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth.
C. MARGARET DEMPSEY, 83, of Matawan died July 17 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Washington, D.C., she lived in Matawan the past 42 years. She was a dining services dietitian at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, for 16 years, retiring in 1984. She served with the U.S. Army during World War II. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Bridge League, the American Dietetic Association, and the Matawan Women’s Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick A. Dempsey in 1972; two brothers, Gerard Bier and Charles Bier; and a sister, Mary Agnes Kerley. She is survived by six daughters and four sons-in-law, Cathy and Kevin Frayler of Meriden, Conn., Mary and Don Gordon of the Belford section of Middletown, Sister Beth Dempsey, RSM, of Lawrenceville, Anne and Don Solecki of Matawan, Clare Dempsey of Matawan, and Pat and Jim Widdoss of Somerset; one son and daughter-in-law, Fred and JoAnn Dempsey of New Egypt; two brothers, Richard Bier of Vienna, Va., and Joseph Bier of Wilmington, N.C.; her sister, Angela Mulranen of Norwood, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment

JOSEPH P. BALDONI JR., 77, of Hazlet died July 8 at home. Born in Union City, he lived there before moving to Hazlet 40 years ago. He was a salesman for Siegels Stationary, Summit, retiring in 1990. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Martha Baldoni of Hazlet; three daughters, Barbara Dahlberg of Crofton, Md., Laura Alexander of Hazlet, and Joanne Karlik of Apex, N.C.; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be July 10 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A funeral service will be July 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
WILLIAM B. HAYDEN, 85, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown died July 13 at home. Born in New York City, he lived there until moving to Port Monmouth in 1950. He was a retired metal lather for Local No. 43 Metal Lathers Union, New York, for 40 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Jones Hayden in 1986. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol Hayden of Port Monmouth, Kathleen and Edward Sulkowski of Highlands, and Margaret and Charles Noss of Port Monmouth; two sisters, Elizabeth Flynn of Emerson, and Eleanor Zarkivach of Keyport; his brother, Vincent Hayden of Prattsville, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy will be offered July 17 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
FRANK W. ZIEGLER, 72, of Middletown died July 13 at Regent Care Center, Hackensack. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Wood-Ridge prior to moving to Middletown one year ago. He was a factory worker and assembler for Western Electric, Kearny, for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 48 yeas, Theresa Kiely Ziegler of Middletown; his son, Frank Ziegler Jr. of Middletown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Theresa and James Behringer of Swedesboro, and Florence Lisa of Middletown; his sister, Florence Magan of Whiting; and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be July 17 at 11 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
JOHN A. TARPEY, 79, of Middletown Township died June 29 at home. Born in New York City, he lived in Nutley prior to moving to Middletown in 1960. He was employed in the operations and sales division at Republic Carloading, New York, for 25 years. He was also president of John A. Tarpey Associates, working as a consultant until retirement in 1989. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Larkin. He was a parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was also a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bloomfield. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Nancy Tarpey of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters and one son-in-law, Bernadette M. Tarpey of Tinton Falls, Catherine R. Tarpey of Edison, and Regina T. and John Kling of Middletown; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
WILLIAM SCHNEIDER, 82, of Middletown died July 10 at home. Born in Newark, he lived in Hazlet prior to moving to Middletown 32 years ago. He was a maintenance worker for Luftman Towers, Lincroft section of Middletown, for 10 years, retiring in 1995. Prior to that, he worked at Lily Tulip, Holmdel. He was a member of Keansburg Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Lamm Schneider of Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Michael Dingledine, Lenore and Robert Senderson, Helena and August Ciufo, and Trisha and Douglas Hintze, all of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Christine Schneider of Farmingdale, and Keith and Diane Schneider of Spotswood; two brothers and one sister-in-law, John and Louise Schneider of Arizona, and Edward Schneider of Toms River; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
CATHERINE "LENA" C. CAMPO MALETTO, 83, of Red Bank died July 11 at home. Born in Pennsylvania, she lived in the Belford section of Middletown prior to moving to Red Bank in 1950. She was a cafeteria chef at Red Bank Primary School for several years, retiring in 1991. Prior to that, she was a homemaker and a seamstress at Eisner’s, Red Bank. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, as well as a member of its St. Ann Society. Her activities included cooking, walking and gardening. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond J. Maletto Sr. in 1969; her sister, Carmella Rapolla; and a brother, Philip Campo Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine F. and Patrick Hughes of Red Bank; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Vincent R. Maletto of Hamilton Township, Raymond J. and Elizabeth Maletto Jr. of the River Plaza section of Middletown, Philip Maletto of Red Bank, and Peter and Maryann Maletto of Red Bank; her brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Maria Campo of Belmar; her sister, Rose DeChicchio of River Plaza; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
