IVY GAIL TISCHLER GROSS, 42, of Howell died April 12 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, after a 3-year battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she grew up in Hazlet and resided in Howell the past 13 years. She was a senior case manager at Case Management Services of New Jersey. Prior to that, she was a registered nurse at various hospitals in New Jersey and Arizona. She was a graduate of Raritan High School, Hazlet. She was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Matilda Gross. She is survived by her husband, son and daughter, Stephen, Gary Matthew and Kayla Nicole Gross, all of Howell; her parents, Harriet and Murray Tischler of Hazlet; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beth and Lee Baumgardner of Mercer Island, Wash., and Mindy and David Hazzard of Chester, N.Y.; her brother, Mark Tischler of San Antonio, Texas; her father-in-law, Robert Gross; her sister-in-law and husband, Donna and Herb Massa; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Gary and Kayla Gross Trust Fund, M & T Bank. 791 Route 17M, Monroe, NY 10950.

CARL P. AMATO, 80 of the Lincroft section of Middletown died April 9 at home. Born in Red Bank, he lived in Tinton Falls and Little Silver prior to moving to Lincroft 20 years ago. He was an electronics engineer at the U.S. Army communications and Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, for 19 years, as well as a photography instructor at Fort Monmouth Signal School. He served with the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. His hobbies included birdwatching, astronomy, photography and electronics. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion Acerra Amato. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Christina T. and Anthony Simone of Lincroft, Marion and Kevin Carroll of Jackson, and Phyllis and Elliot De Leon of Westfield, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to Meridian Hospice, 615 Hope Road, Eatontown 07724; or the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

HELEN C. BERGEN, 90, of the Belford section of Middletown died April 9 at Regency Park Nursing Center, Hazlet. Born in New York City, she lived in the Bronx prior to moving to Belford 20 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters Court Fulgens Corona, and the Middletown Senior Citizens Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Bergen in 1976. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel P. and Phyllis Bergen of Belford, John M. and Lorraine Bergen of Nanuet, N.Y., and Joseph F. and Mary Bergen Jr. of Manalapan; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial was at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, the Bronx.

ROSE CONTINI, 89, of Hazlet died April 9 at Bayshore Health Center, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, she resided there until moving to Hazlet 28 years ago. She was a crochet beader in Jersey City. She was a member of the Bayshore Senior Center, Keansburg, and the Hazlet Senior Citizens Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Contini in 1974. She is survived by two daughters, Loretta DePillo of Port Reading, and Michele Zielinski of Hazlet; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater N.J. Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville 07834.

FREDERICK M. SLATTERY JR., 62, of Freehold Township died March 27. Born in Freehold, he had lived in the area for most of his life. He was a disabled Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting in the service in 1958 and becoming disabled in 1962. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. He was a member of the American Legion Post 54; the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1454; and the Cpl. Philip A. Reynolds Detachment, Marine Corps League, all of Freehold. He is survived by his father, Frederick Sr.; two sisters, Dorothy Slattery and Catherine Funkhouser, both of Chino Valley, Ariz.; a brother, Dennis of Spring Hill, Fla.; an uncle, Todd Slattery of Freehold Township; an aunt, Margaret Riley of Keyport; two nieces; four nephews; and two grandnieces.

JAMES CANTRELLA, 87, of Hazlet died March 31 at home. Born in Newark, he lived there until moving to Hazlet in 1955. He was a third-generation barber and owned and operated Jimmy’s Barber Shop, Keansburg, retiring in 1997. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola Cantrella in 1964. He is survived by two sons, Vincent Cantrella of Middletown, and Syl Cantrella of Keansburg; his daughter, Dianna Palermo of Middletown; his companion, Catherine Finnerty of Hazlet; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be April 3 at 9:15 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

EILEEN T. CARUSO, 84, of Keyport died April 1 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in East Newark, she resided in North Arlington prior to moving to Keyport 50 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert N. Caruso Sr. in 1982; two sisters, Mabel Cantoni and Virginia Horn; her brother, Robert Rush; and a grandson, Patrick Velcamp. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Albert N. Caruso Jr. of Keyport, and Jeanne and Dennis Velcamp of Whiting; two grandsons, Joseph Velcamp of Rumson, and Christian Velcamp of Middletown; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be April 4 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be April 5 (time to be announced) at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Keyport.

MARY CAITLIN FREIBOTT of Middletown died March 31 at Cornell Medical Center, New York City. She was born April 24, 2000 in Red Bank. She is survived by her parents and one brother, Kevin J. and Catherine, and Kevin T. Freibott, all of Middletown; her maternal grandparents, Carol and Tom Sheridan of Red Bank; and her paternal grandparents, Eileen and George Freibott of Middletown. Visitation will be April 3 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be April 4 at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral liturgy at 9 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. DOROTHY M. MARTIN ROGERS, 73, of the Belford section of Middletown died March 31 at home. Born in New York City, she lived in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown prior to moving to Belford 49 years ago. She was a custodian for the Middletown Board of Education at Middletown High School North for 12 years, retiring in 1992. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, and walking. She was predeceased by a son, Daniel K. Rogers in 1979. She is survived by three sons, Wayne C. Rogers of Port Monmouth, Richard L. Rogers Jr. of Jackson, and Roy E. Rogers of Neptune; three daughters, Linda K. Griffiths of Swansboro, N.C., and Donna M. Doherty and Elaine M. Rogers, both of Belford; her brother, John Martin of Florida; her sister, Catherine Braun of Middletown; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be April 3 at 11 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial will be at Bayview Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown.

ANDREW CASALINO, 71, of Hazlet died March 16 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Bari, Italy, he moved to Hazlet 40 years ago. He was a caster for Woodbridge Pottery for 35 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. He is survived by his wife Archangela Aquavia Casalino of Hazlet; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Anna Lejeune of Howell, and Marie and Paolo Del Medico, Rosa Casalino, and Lia Fato, all of Bari, Italy; his brother-in-law, Stephen Aquavia of Hazlet; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Keyport.
