Mary Frances "Mae T." Spooner
Mrs. Spooner, 106, of Red Bank died March 7 at her home. Born in Jersey City, she resided there before moving to Red Bank in 1973. She worked as a business secretary for many years for various companies before retiring. She and her husband always enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their beach home in Avon. She was predeceased by her husband, John Spooner, in 1972; brother George Thorpe; and sister Gladys Russell. Surviving are her step granddaughter, Jacqueline Wilhoit; several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. A funeral service was held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, followed by interment in Bay View Cemetery, Jersey City.
James Patrick Keelen
Mr. Keelen, 24, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Aug. 23 in Keyport. Born in Red Bank, he was a lifelong resident of Belford. Mr. Keelen was a carpenter at Dream Builders, Keansburg. He was a Long Branch fireman. He is survived by his father, James Keelen of Long Branch; his mother, Michelle Keelen of Middletown; a sister, Jamie Keelen of Middletown; two brothers, Patrick and Kevin Keelen, both Middletown; his paternal grandmother, Patricia Keelen of Sea Bright; his maternal grandparents, Alice and Jerry Barry of Hazlet; and several aunts and uncles. A funeral gathering will be held Aug. 27 at 9:30 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown.
Alice M. Tumia
Mrs. Tumia, 85, of Red Bank, died July 25 in Titusville, Fla. Formerly of Lincroft, she had been a resident of Red Bank since 1979. Mrs. Tumia was an assistant director of activities for the Holmdel Convalescent Center, Holmdel, retiring in 1974. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Louis J. Tumia; a son, Kenneth Tumia of Red Bank; two daughters, Marylou Gittleson of Rumson and Shirleyann Bzdewka of Hazlet; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass was held at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, followed by interment at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Nicholas F. Cogliano Jr.
Mr. Cogliano, 43, of Red Bank died Aug. 8 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Atlantic Highlands and Hazlet before moving to Red Bank 15 years ago. Mr. Cogliano was a production manager at Variety Industries, Freehold, the past 18 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Louise Perno Cogliano, in 1983. He is survived by his father, Nicholas Cogliano Sr. of Palm Coast, Fla.; his wife, Cheryl Butler of Red Bank; two brothers, Carmen Cogliano of Marlboro and Dennis Cogliano of Pine Beach; a son, Steven Reamer; and three nieces. Victor Barone
Mr. Barone, 86, of Hazlet, died Aug. 17 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Newark before moving to Hazlet 25 years ago. Mr. Barone was a self-employed barber for 50 years before retiring in 2002. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Bafano, and eight brothers, Martin, Louis, Harry, Lannie, Alfred, Joseph, Charles and Jimmy Barone. Mr. Barone is survived by his wife, Pauline Barone; two sons, Victor Barone Jr. of Weehawken and Robert Barone of Germany; a daughter, Norma Andriani of Secaucus; a stepdaughter, Paula Paglia of Tinton Falls; a sister, Anna Flanner of Union; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Patrick J. Nee
Mr. Nee, 68, of Aberdeen, died Aug. 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he resided in Queens, N.Y., prior to moving to Aberdeen 38 years ago. He was a vice president at Dreyfus Corp., retiring in 1984. He served with the U.S. Air Force. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Nee. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dolores; a daughter, Karin Nee of Red Bank; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Christopher and Lisa Nee of Maryland, Brian and Amy Nee of Freehold, Kevin Nee of New York City, and Timothy Nee of Bloomfield; two brothers and one sister-in-law, John and Janice Nee of Lady Lakes, Fla., and the Rev. Richard Charles Geiger
Mr. Geiger, 82, of Rumson died Aug. 6 at Burlington County Virtua Health Memorial Hospital, Mount Holly. He resided in West Point Island, Ocean County, prior to moving to Rumson 18 years ago. Mr. Geiger was employed in sales at Colonial Manufacturing Co., Roseland, before his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, C. June Geiger. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Debbie Geiger; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Robert Heinle; a brother, Robert Geiger; a sister, Shirley Ruane; five grandchildren; and a niece and nephew. Elmer Waltz
Mr. Waltz, 97, of Little Silver died April 19 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He resided in Fair Haven and Paterson prior to moving to Little Silver. Mr. Waltz was co-owner of Little Silver Mike’s Toy Store until 1977. Prior to that, he owned a butcher business in Paterson from 1928-56. He attended St. John’s Episcopal Church, Little Silver. He enjoyed gardening and beekeeping. Mr. Waltz was predeceased by his wife, Louise Waltz, in 1985; and a brother, Henry Waltz. He is survived by four daughters, Helena Lauterio of North Stonington, Conn., Marie Greasheimer of the Lincroft section of Middletown, Dorothy Waltz of Griswald, Conn., and Elma Stoveken of Ridgefield, Conn.; a sister, Dorothy Van Houten of Stuart, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. Matthew Lynch Heagney
Mr. Heagney, 40, of Old Greenwich, Conn., formerly of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died April 3 at home. He attended high school in the Middletown area. Mr. Heagney was director of equity capital markets at UBS Investment Bank, Stamford, Conn. He enjoyed time with his family, sailing, skiing and golf. He also ran in the Boston and New York marathons, and was an Eagle Scout. Mr. Heagney is survived by his mother, Mary T. Heagney; his children, A.J. and Kailee; a brother and sister-in-law, Jonathan and Ann Heagney of Pennsylvania; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Rick Bennett of Ocean, and Amy and William Hall of Oceanport; and several nieces and nephews. Janice D. Treola
Mrs. Treola, 55, of Katy, Texas, died on March 28 at Herman Memorial City Hospital, Houston, Texas. She was born in Long Branch and lived in Middletown before moving to Texas in 1991. Mrs. Treola was a self-employed mortgage broker and was a member of the Texas Mortgage Broker Association. She was predeceased by her father, Rudolph Smejkal and mother, Stella Nizolak; a stepson, Noah Levine; and brother-in-law, John Treola. Mrs. Treola is survived by a daughter, Lisa Treola of Katy, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Mascilak and Lawrence of Union Beach; and Paula Hofmann and her husband, Fred, of Point Pleasant; a brother, Rudolph Smejkal of Hightstown; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smejkal of Manchester; Catherine Treola of Middletown; and Gloria Treola and Thomas of Florida. Teresa Palaia Mills
Mrs. Mills, 89, of Toms River died April 20 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Born in Oceanport, she resided in the West End section of Long Branch and Fair Haven prior to moving to Toms River less than one year ago. She was a jewelry buyer at Steinbach’s department store, Asbury Park, for 10 years before retiring in 1973. Prior to that, she was employed at Lerner’s and managed Lane Bryant’s, both Red Bank. Mrs. Mills was predeceased by her husband, Donald D. Mills, in 1971. She is survived by a son, Alfred T. Mills of Toms River; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Interment

Bernadette Pitus
Mrs. Pitus, 70, of Aberdeen died April 12 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there and in Fort Lee before moving to Aberdeen 41 years ago. Mrs. Pitus was a self-employed baby-sitter for 40 years. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, for more than 40 years. She enjoyed time with her family. She is survived by her husband, William Pitus Jr.; a son, William Pitus III of Plainsboro; three daughters, Dianne Krisza of Milltown, Susan Hassler of Aberdeen and Eileen Collins of Little Silver; three brothers, the Rev. Daniel McCarthy of Canada, James McCarthy of Long Island, N.Y., and Michael McCarthy of Queens, N.Y.; three sisters, Norma Jackson of Ohio, Nathalie Anne D’Arcangelo of South Carolina and Mary Cecilia Zerillo of Colorado; and seven grandchildren.
