ROBERT ZIEGLER, 76, of Matawan died Jan. 9 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was a lifelong resident. He was a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years, retiring in 1987. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of both the Washington Engine Company, and American Legion Post No. 176, Matawan. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ziegler of Matawan; his daughter, Maryann Merry of Renovo, Pa.; his son, Robert L. Ziegler of Matawan; his brother, Arthur Ziegler of Georgia; four sisters, Ruth Eovino and Dorothy Pennetti, both of Matawan; Ethel Pennetti of Jackson; and Evelyn Gray of Keyport; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment
was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
EVERETT A. LUKER, 99, of Middletown died Jan. 7 at his home in Middletown. Born in Belford, he was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a civil service worker at U.S. Naval Weapons Station Earle, Colts Neck, before his retirement. He was a U.S Army veteran of World War I and a U.S Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2179, Port Monmouth. He was a charter member and exempt member of Belford Engine Company No. 1. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Helen (nee Billings); a sister, Hannah Turner of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Interment
was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
PETER P. GALLAGHER JR., 39, of the Belford section of Middletown died Jan. 5 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he lived in the East Keansburg section of Middletown prior to moving to Belford. He was an inside salesman for Girard Equipment, Rahway, for 10 years. Prior to that, he was a cook at Bahrs Restaurant, Highlands; and worked for CVS, Rahway. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He coached BYAA soccer and baseball, as well as AA basketball at St. Mary’s. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Debra VonOesen Gallagher of Belford; two sons and one daughter, Peter P. Gallagher III, Daniel O. Gallagher, and Megan E. Gallagher, all of Belford; his father and mother, Peter P. and Barbara M. Gallagher of New Monmouth; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Brian and Darlene Gallagher, and Kevin and Susan Gallagher, all of Middletown; his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Andrew Spears of the Leonardo section of Middletown; his mother- and father-in-law, Celia and Kenneth VonOesen of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral gathering will be Jan. 9 at 8:45 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will be offered at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. JOHN SAKOWSKI, 88, of Matawan died Jan. 2 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in New York City, he resided there prior to moving to Matawan. He was a retired foreman for the borough of Matawan Public Works Department where he worked for 25 years. He attended St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. His memberships included the M.E. Haley Hose Fire Company, Matawan; and Woodmen of the World. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion Sakowski. He is survived by his son, John Sakowski Jr.; and two brothers, Stanley Sakowski of Neptune, and William Sakowski of Hazlet. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
DELORES D. "DEE" REID, 68, of the Leonardo section of Middletown died Jan. 2 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she lived there until moving to Leonardo 45 years ago. She was a retired real estate agent for Gloria Nilson Realtors, Middletown, where she worked for 15 years. Prior to that she worked for Weichert Realty, Middletown. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. An avid sportswoman, she was a tennis professional and teacher for several years, teaching at Matawan Indoor Tennis and Middletown Swim and Tennis, as well as coaching the Mater Dei tennis team. She helped found the New Jersey State Tennis Association. She is survived by three sons, Ken Reid of Brick Township, and Steven Reid and Robert Reid, both of Redondo Beach, Calif.; her sister, Barbara Bakerman of Atlantic Highlands; and her granddaughter, Kimberly Reid. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment was at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown.
AVIOUS MILANO-HYMAN, 1 year and 5 months, of Union Beach died Jan. 2 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was born in Long Branch and attended Miles of Smiles Nursery School, Keyport. He is survived by his father, Edward Hyman of Keyport; his mother, Gloria Milano of Union Beach; his sister, Salina Milano of Union Beach; his grandparents, Roberta and Mario Milano of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, and Stuart Hyman and Fatima Rosko of Keyport; and his godmother, Amanda Milano.
MARGARET McCRAE MAGGS PARKE, 92, of Louisville, Ky., and formerly of Middletown, died Jan. 1 in Louisville. Born in Harrison, she resided in Middletown prior to moving to Louisville in 1994. She was a homemaker and retired office manager for a local department store. She was a member of Highland United Methodist Church, Louisville. She belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star, Louisville. She served as chief daughter and grand deputy of the Daughters of Scotia, New Jersey. She was predeceased by her first and second husbands, William Robert Maggs and Easton Parke, respectively; two daughters, Jean Miscavage and Virginia Cerwin; her sister, Catherine Brownridge; and her brother, James McNee. She is survived by her son, Robert William Maggs of Louisville; her son-in-law, Arthur Cerwin of Middletown; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service was offered at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Middletown. Interment
