GERTHA MAE PITTS, 68, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Jan. 14 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, following a lengthy illness. Born in Tuskegee, Ala., she moved to New Jersey in 1956. She was a master presser at Miller’s Cleaners, Freehold, for 15 years. She was a former member of the New Mount Baptist Church, Alabama. She is survived by her husband, James Otis Pitts of Cliffwood Beach; six daughters and one son-in-law, Jane and Harold Brown of Neptune, Judy Pitts and Normaree Pitts, both Asbury Park, Gloria Pitts of Aberdeen, Brenda Pitts of Eatontown, and Cortrice Pitts of Keansburg; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Pitts Jr. of Cliffwood Beach, and Corey and Dennis Pitts of Aberdeen; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Herbert Outsey of Columbus, Ga.; six brothers-in-law; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at New Hope Baptist Church, Freehold. Interment
was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
ORTRUDE H. "TRUDY" HOLLERING, 70, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died Jan. 18 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Freehold, Holmdel and Union before moving to Lincroft. She was a retired executive administrative assistant at P.I.C., Asbury Park, and Red Bank. Prior to that, she was a legal secretary at Zager and Fuchs, Red Bank. She was an active member of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Tinton Falls, where she was involved with its choir, Craft Christians, and vacation Bible school. Her activities included thoroughbred horses, which she and her husband raised and raced. She was predeceased by her husband, L. Karl Hollering, in 1994. She is survived by her son, Kurt F. BESSIE FISHER GREEN KIRSCHNER, 71, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Asbury Park, died Jan. 11 at the Medical Center of Ocean, Brick Township. Born in Long Branch, she resided in Asbury Park before moving to Point Pleasant six years ago. She was employed at Fisher’s Grocery Store, Asbury Park, where she assisted her mother for several years. She was a former member of Congregation Sons of Israel, Asbury Park. She was a former member of the Young at Heart Club, and the Democratic Club, Asbury Park. She was predeceased by her husband, Irving Kirschner, in 2002; her first husband, Jacob Green, in 1969; and her son, Ira K. Green, in 1985. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Fisher of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township and Tinton Falls; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Interment

LESTER ROGERS, 97, of Sea Bright died Jan. 14 at his son’s home in Long Branch. Born in Sea Bright, he resided there with his son and daughter-in-law for 35 years. Mr. Rogers was a self-employed commercial fisherman, retiring 17 years ago. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Reynolds Rogers, in 1973; a daughter, Edna Layton, in 1999; a son, Lester Rogers, in 2002; and two grandchildren. He is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert and Maria Rogers of Long Branch, Thomas and Barbara Rogers of Wrightstown, and Barbara Rogers of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet; a son-in-law, Charles Layton of Highlands; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
JAMES L. DINEN, 83, of Fair Haven died Jan. 10 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was born in Long Branch. Mr. Dinen was a retired plant service supervisor at New Jersey Bell Telephone Co., where he was employed serving Long Branch, Asbury Park, Red Bank and Trenton for 40 years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, as well as an avid tennis player. He was predeceased by two daughters, Kathleen and Margaret. Mr. Dinen is survived by his wife, whom he married in 1949, Veronica Tomsykoski Dinen of Fair Haven; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Carol Dinen of Springfield, Va., and Timothy and Karen Dinen of Long Branch; his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Christopher Lloyd of Queensland, Australia; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of the Nativity. Interment
was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
MAURA CONWAY-AMERY, 57, of Holmdel died Dec. 22 at home after a battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there and in Aberdeen, and Miami, Fla., prior to moving to Holmdel 17 years ago. She was a homemaker and enjoyed time with her family. She was a communicant and member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. She received the Golden Key Award from St. John’s University, Jamaica, N.Y., for attaining the highest grade point average in her major, American studies. She was predeceased by her parents, Patrick J. Conway of County Clare, Ireland, and Mary C. McRory of County Donegal, Ireland. She is survived by her husband, Sean Amery of Holmdel; three daughters, Jane Mary Amery of Shrewsbury, Elizabeth Anne Amery of New York City, and Margaret Maura Amery of Holmdel; her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Jim Creech of Raleigh, N.C.; her mother-in-law, Jeannette F. RONDELEIN L. "RONDA" HOMAN, 64, of Long Branch died Dec. 5 at home after a battle with cancer. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., she resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Long Branch in 1956. She was a manager at H & R Block, Red Bank. She worked at Brunswick Monmouth Lanes, Long Branch. She was a member, choir member and former lay leader at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Long Branch. She was also a member of St. Luke’s 49’ers. She was a 25-year secretary for the bowling league the Bored Strykers. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Homan, in 1985. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Susan Homan of Beachwood; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Laurie Homan of Long Branch; Kathy and Stephen Karinja of Rumson; and Lisa and Robert Cozza of Suwanee, Ga.; her brother, Joseph Paslov of Connecticut; her sister, Joan Buffandeau of California; and 10 grandchildren. ELIZABETH "BETTY" MARY DALY BERNER, 64, of Eatontown died Dec. 6 at home. Born in Jersey City, she had resided in the River Plaza section of Middletown for 31 years before moving to Eatontown four years ago. Mrs. Berner was a certified nursing assistant at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Hazlet, for 14 years before her retirement. Prior to that, she was a private duty nurse’s aide for 10 years. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. Her activities included spending time with her family, reading, music, and occasionally opening her home to those in need. She was predeceased by a son, Michael K. Berner, and a sister, Judi Booth. Mrs. Berner is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, James A. and Colleen A. Berner of Tinton Falls, and Bryan James Berner, with whom she lived; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Catherine and Henry J. Remmer of Wilmington, N.C., and Kathleen Berner of Los Angeles; her brother, James Joseph Daly of Keyport; her sister, Kathleen Kazary of Fords; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. DOROTHY J. CUSICK EDMOND, 73, of Eatontown died Jan. 16 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she resided in Shrewsbury Township prior to moving to Eatontown eight years ago. Mrs. Edmond was a domestic worker for several local families. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. Her activities included baseball and she was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. She is survived by two sons, Kevin T. Kelly of Eatontown and Paul Kelly of Piscataway; two daughters, Karen Acevedo and Kathy Golbieski, both of Eatontown; her brother, Thomas Cusick of Fair Haven; her sister, Winifred Methe of Middletown; and six grandchildren.
