EDWARD A. SCOFIELD SR., 84, of Lakewood died Jan. 31 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Newark, he lived in Keansburg before moving to Lakewood in 1985. He was general yard master with Penn Central Railroad for 41 years before his retirement in 1977. Mr. Scofield was a member of the American Legion Post 166, Lakewood, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Brick. He was predeceased by his wife Esther in 1999. Survivors include two sons, Edward A. Scofield Jr. of Cliffwood and Michael Scofield of Brick; six daughters, Rita Nappi of Bradley Beach, Lenore Priola and Judith Hall of Long Branch, Susan McInerney of Monmouth Beach, and Yvonne Adeo and Janice Shields of Tinton Falls; 16 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. STEPHEN E. STROM, 51, of Monmouth Beach died Feb. 10 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in East Brunswick before moving to Monmouth Beach 10 years ago. He was the owner and operator of Julie’s Painting, Monmouth Beach. He received his bachelor of science degree from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin M. and Elizabeth A. Morgan Strom Jr. He is survived by two brothers, Brian Strom and Edwin Strom, both of Middletown; and three nieces, Grace, Jessica and Brianne. A funeral liturgy will be offered Feb. 14 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft section of Middletown. Burial will follow at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown. RONALD K. STECK, 70, of Bunker Hill, W. Va., and formerly Middletown died Feb. 1 at home. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Middletown for 25 years prior to moving to Bunker Hill 10 years ago. He was a senior technical assistant at AT&T, Holmdel, for 39 years, retiring in 1989. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Jennie Williams Steck in 1988. He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Steven Silverstein of West Long Branch, Sharon and Ben Barresi of Little Silver, Jeanne and Chris Risafi of Freehold, and Diane and Jimmy McDonald of Middletown; his sister and brother, Carol Steck and Robert Steck, both of New Jersey; and nine grandchildren. Burial was at Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
HAROLD SCHNEIDER, 84, of the Elberon section of Long Branch died Jan. 30 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident. He was the owner of Schneider’s Kosher Meat Market, Long Branch, which his family has owned for three generations. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a life member of Congregation Brothers of Israel, Long Branch. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Schneider of Elberon; two sons, David Schneider of Mount Laurel, and Bruce Schneider of Springfield; his daughter, Nancy Schneider of Newport Beach, Calif.; and five grandchildren. Burial was at Congregation Brothers of Israel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Memorial donations may be made to Congregation Brothers of Israel, 250 Park Ave., Elberon 07740.
LILY MASUCCI COOK, 79, of Long Branch died Feb. 5 at home. Born in Newark, she was a lifelong resident of Long Branch. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Cook in 1989. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Judi Cook of Long Branch; her daughter and son-in-law, Lucy and James Hunter of Ohio; and two grandchildren. Interment
was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
CATHERINE A. AUMOCK, 89, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly Long Branch, died Feb. 9 at Tandem Health Care of Port Charlotte. Born in Keyport, she resided in Long Branch prior to moving to Port Charlotte in 1986. She was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, Port Charlotte. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth K. Rogers of Port Charlotte; two sons, John Aumock of Rochester Hills, Mich., and Robert Aumock of Carey, N.C.; her sister, Mary Roberts of Long Branch; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
GORDON B.P. ROSA JR., 51, of Long Branch died Feb. 12 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, he relocated to Long Branch 38 years ago. He was the owner and proprietor of New Jersey Janitorial, Inc., Long Branch, for 10 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon B.P. and Edith Staub Rosa. He is survived by two brothers and one sister-in-law, Michael Rosa of Long Branch, and Victor and Lori Rosa of Oceanport. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport.
STANLEY J. BASTELLI, 83, of Middletown died Feb. 17 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Middletown, he was a lifelong resident. He was a retired house painter for Wesley Crozier, Fair Haven. He served with the U.S. Army as a medic during World War II. He served as an usher for several years at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. His hobbies included antique cars and motorcycles, and selling vegetables he grew at his roadside vegetable stand. He was predeceased by his brother, John Bastelli and his sister, Anna Zebrowski. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores Rosier Bastelli of Middletown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marianne and Jack Deichert of Coppell, Texas, and Jennifer and Jack Shareshian of Middletown; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stanley and Ann Bastelli Jr. of Eatontown, Edward and Joy Bastelli of Long Branch, and Robert Bastelli of Middletown; and 10 grandchildren. Visitation will be Feb. 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be Feb. 22 at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
JOHN D. POWERS, 57, of Middletown died Feb. 16 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Aberdeen and Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Middletown 14 years ago. Mr. Powers was a retired physical education teacher for the City of New York for more than 25 yeas. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Dodge City, Kansas, for several years, and volunteered several years with the Challenged Youth Sports Program, Middletown. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Knoblauch Powers of Middletown; his son, Shane Powers of New York City; his daughter, Christine Powers, at home; and his brother, Robert Powers of Manhasset, N.Y. A funeral gathering will be held Feb. 20 at 9:45 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, followed by a funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. EDWARD WINTERFIELD, 82, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Feb. 15 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Red Bank. Born in New York City, he resided in the Bronx, N.Y., before moving to Belford in 1955. Mr. Winterfield was a bank auditor at Manufacturers Hanover Trust, New York City, for 45 years, retiring in 1980. He served with the U.S. Army in the 100th Infantry Division during World War II. He was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Middletown. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Winterfield. He is survived by his wife, Edith J. Jiran Winterfield of Belford; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Christine Winterfield of Manasquan; and two grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be held Feb. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
