RICHARD P. MASKEVICH, 68, of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge died Sept. 4 at home. He was predeceased by his parents, Apollo A. and Julie K. Maskevich; his son, Richard P. Maskevich Jr. in 1957; and his brothers, Milton Maskevich and Wilbur Maskevich. He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, April and Robert Gareis of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, Erin Kozak of Laurence Harbor, and Lisa Maskevich of Cliffwood Beach; his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and John Murray of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Cremation was private.
RICHARD STEPHEN POPLOWSKI of Sayreville died Sept. 7 at home. He was the owner and operator of Richie’s Coastal Gas, Sayreville. Surviving are his wife, Alexis Grabowski Poplowski; two daughters, Amber and Shelby Poplowski, both of Sayreville; a son, Richard Poplowski, also of Sayreville; two sisters, Doris Resh and Ruth Ann Ratynski; a sister-in-law, Charlene Kenny; and five nieces and nephews. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Sept. 11 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
HERBERT GROVER, 77, of Spotswood died Sept. 5 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He was predeceased by a son, Robert. Surviving are his wife, LaVerne Conover Grover; four sons, Herbert of South River, Thomas of Ashland, Mass., Jack of Milltown and Charles of Helmetta; two daughters, Sharon McGlynn of Helmetta and Mary Popielarski of East Windsor; two sisters, Mildred Boley of Sayreville and Carol Hoyda of the Fords section of Woodbridge; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment

JAMES A. BUTTITTA, 74, of the Parlin section of Sayreville died Sept. 6 at home. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Alexa Rae Lita, and by a son-in-law, John Delia. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Loverde Buttitta; a son, James A. Buttitta Jr. of Clearwater, Fla.; three daughters, Debra Delia of Parlin, Cheryl Conner of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Carolyn Lita of South Amboy; three brothers, Frank, Anthony and Joseph Buttitta; three sisters, Genevieve Kliminski, Rosemary Nicolato and Palma Nowicki; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bernadette’s Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Interment
was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.
JOHN "BIG JOHN" KOWALCHIK, 83, of the Parlin section of Sayreville died Sept. 7 in St. Michael’s Medical Center, Newark. A son, Richard J. Kowalchik, died in 1989. Surviving are his wife, Frances Hyszczak Kowalchik; two daughters, Carol A. Mellow of Hillsborough and Christine Butka of Brick; and five grandchildren. A Mass is planned for 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Mausoleum, Parlin.
HOWARD T. BONNER, 75, of the Parlin section of Sayreville died Sept. 1 at home. Surviving are his wife, Anna Bonfiglio Bonner; a sister, Lucille Minichinio of Parlin; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin. Interment
was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover.
MARION A. BOWERS COLLINS, 66, of East Brunswick died Sept. 3 at home. Her husband, James, died in 2000. Surviving are four sons, James Collins Jr. of East Brunswick, William and John O’Brien, both of Newport Beach, Calif., and Robert O’Brien of the Parlin section of Sayreville; two daughters, Christine Nardin of East Brunswick and Elizabeth Walsh of Howell; and three grandchildren. A service was held at Nativity of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church, East Brunswick. Interment
was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.
WILLIAM M. SCUPP JR., 76, of New Brunswick, formerly of South River, died Sept. 5 in Old Bridge Manor. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was a machine operator for 42 years with E.I. DuPont, Parlin section of Sayreville. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Holsworth Scupp; two sons, Glenn and Greg, both of Sayreville; two sisters, Dolores Myers and Eleanor Sears, both of South River; and a grandson. ZENA SUSKEVICH MACKO, 90, of South River died Sept. 6 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, Frank J. Macko, died in 1993, and a daughter-in-law, Carole Macko, died in 2000. Surviving are two daughters, Nadine Warner of Bound Brook and Claudia Letizia of Sayreville; a son, Frank Macko of the Toms River section of Dover; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A service was held at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, South River. Interment
was in the church cemetery.
MARIE T. BIVONA, 48, of the Parlin section of Sayreville died Sept. 1 at her parents’ home in the Toms River section of Dover. She was a volunteer at Carriage House Manor, Sayreville. Surviving are her parents, Thomas G. and Doris J. Corbeille Bivona; her twin sister, Terry Whyte of Howell; and a niece, Cherie Whyte, and two nephews, Richard T. Whyte and Robert T. Whyte, all of Howell. A Mass is planned for 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 5 at Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy. Entombment will follow in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens.
JOHN MICHAEL BRADY, 69, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Aug. 21. Born in Brooklyn, he resided there his entire life. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Josephine Brady; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and John Olmstead of North Brunswick, and Kathleen and Neil Scognamiglio of Old Bridge; his son and daughter-in-law, John Robert and Kathy Brady of Malibu, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Athanasius Church, Brooklyn, N.Y. Interment
