JOSEPH S. MINCHILLI, 60, of North Brunswick died April 21 at home. Born in Jersey City, he resided there before moving to North Brunswick 30 years ago. He was self-employed. Prior to that, he was a customer service representative in New York City, and worked in the collection department at various Fleet Bank branches. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Soyka Minchilli of North Brunswick; his daughter, Elizabeth Minchilli of North Brunswick; his mother, Betty Impalli Minchilli of Ocean Township; and two sisters, Loretta Marchitto and Frances Cuthbert, both Ocean Township.
ETHEL A. CHRISTMAN RUSSEK, 83, of Fair Haven died April 15 at home. Born in Dayton, Ohio, she resided in Red Bank prior to moving to Fair Haven several years ago. Mrs. Russek was a secretary at Russek Appliances, Fair Haven. She was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. She was an active life member of the Fair Haven Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, devoting many years to its firemen’s fair. She enjoyed time with her family, and was known as "Nan." She was predeceased by her first husband, Louis Pempek, who died during World War II; her husband, Henry S. Russek; two sisters; and two brothers. Mrs. Russek is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David Pempek Russek and Janet Russek of Coral Springs, Fla., and Stephen H. and Annie Russek of Natural Bridge, Va.; her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Thomas Kavookjian of Fair Haven; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at the Church of the Nativity, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
JEAN McNISKIN, 92, of Red Bank died April 17 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Lowell, Mass., she lived in Fair Haven prior to moving to Red Bank 20 years ago. Mrs. McNiskin was a registered nurse at Scarpellino Medical Association and Riverview Medical Center, both Red Bank, for several years, retiring in 1981. She was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven, and a member of its Nifty Fifties Club. She was predeceased by her husband, William F. McNiskin, in 1979; three sisters; and two brothers. Mrs. McNiskin is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, William Dawson-McNiskin of Red Bank, and Gerald F. and Gina McNiskin of Hingham, Mass.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha M. and Evan Goodman of Shark River Hills, and Maura M. and Richard Pettigrew of Fair Haven; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of the Nativity, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. DENNIS J. DeSANTIS, 51, of Aberdeen died April 21 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Red Bank, he resided there until moving to Aberdeen 17 years ago. He was a sales associate at Home Depot, Old Bridge, for the past eight years. He was a communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas DeSantis and Rose Lombanido DeSantis. He is survived by his wife, Harriet Stoia DeSantis of Aberdeen; and his daughter, Nicole DeSantis, at home. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Entombment was at Holmdel Mausoleum.
DORIS L. LEINBACH FREDERICK, 76, of Eatontown died April 30 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. She was born in Camden. Mrs. Frederick was a medical records clerk at Bayshore community Hospital, Holmdel, before her retirement. She volunteered at the Senior Citizens Activities Network (SCAN), Eatontown, the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, Red Bank, and the Monmouth County Board of Elections. She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, walking, and needlepoint. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Harry Frederick, in 1961; a son, Russell Harry Frederick Jr., in 1996; and her brother, Donald Leinbach. Mrs. Frederick is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Robin Frederick of Eatontown; a daughter-in-law, Gail B. Frederick; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gail Wilson of Ocean, and Susan and Carlos Gaspar of Clark; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. ALPHONSO "AL" CARRINO, 62, of Las Vegas, formerly of Eatontown, died April 5 at home following a long battle with cancer. Born in Neptune, he resided in Asbury Park, Middletown, Eatontown, and Boca Raton, Fla., prior to moving to Las Vegas six months ago. Mr. Carrino was a retired plumbing foreman for buildings such as the World Trade Center, and a manager and bartender at Mr. C’s, Deal. He was a member of the Eatontown Recreation Advisory Board for several years. He was active in sports, and coached Little League and Pony League in Eatontown, and basketball for St. Dorothea’s CYO League, also Eatontown. He was also an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Carole Carrino of Las Vegas; his son, Kevin Carrino of Long Branch; four daughters, Trina Farland of Pine, Colo.; Rose Banks and Bambi Montag, both Las Vegas; and Paddy Carman of Endicott, N.Y.; two brothers, Anthony Alo of Las Vegas and Frank Carrino of Wall; and 11 grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Woodbine Chapel Mausoleum, Oceanport.
THOMAS A. McGUIRE, 54, of Middletown died May 9 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he resided in Middletown the past 30 years. He was an award-winning freelance photographer, and took part in several shows throughout New Jersey. Prior to that, he worked at New York Telephone, New York City, and Verizon, from 1970-96. He donated any profits from photos of the New York skyline and World Trade Center memorial lights to families of the Sept. 11 victims, and the New York Firefighter’s Burn Center. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Teresa Sitler McGuire of Middletown; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Matthew J. McGuire of Middletown, Thomas P. and Ursula McGuire of the West End section of Long Branch, and Michael C. McGuire of Middletown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Maria C. and John Adubato of West End, and Rosemary E. McGuire of Weehawken; two brothers, Charles McGuire of Hicksville, N.Y., and Joseph McGuire of Hampton Bays, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary Gentile of Islip, N.Y., and Joanne McGuire of Sunnyside, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
JOHN P. McLAUGHLIN SR., 75, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died May 12 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Lincroft the past 31 years. He was a retired assistant transfer agent at Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway, New York City. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from USAR C Company 826th Military Intelligence BN in 1982, after serving 32 years. He was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Chapel, Fort Monmouth. He was a former president of Alliance Francais, Monmouth County, and an active member of Daltai na Gaeilge, students of the Irish language. His hobbies included flying, and he was a private pilot. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret McLaughlin of Lincroft; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Neil J. McLaughlin of Lake City, Fla., and John P. and Jaclyn McLaughlin Jr. of Ocean Township; two daughters, Carol M. Skaggs of Hanford, Calif., and Joan V. McLaughlin of Chester, Va.; his sister, Beatrice O’Connor of Pembroke, N.H.; and two grandchildren. A funeral service was offered at Fort Monmouth Post Chapel, Eatontown. Interment
was at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
ELBERT L. MERRELL, 84, of Middletown died May 11 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Keyport, he had been a resident of Middletown since 1954. Mr. Merrell was a retired chief supply manager at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, where he worked for 32 years. He served with the U.S.. Army during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2179, Middletown. Mr. Merrell is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothea Phillips Merrell of Middletown; two sisters, Dorothy Lambertson of Freehold and Sarah Allen of Eatontown; one niece; and one nephew. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
ROSE T. SICILIANO VACCARO, 90, of Middletown died May 1 at home. Born in Neptune, she resided in Queens, N.Y., prior to moving to Middletown in 1974. She was a retired operator for N.J. Bell, Asbury Park. She also served as a secretary at United Cerebral Palsy, Queens, N.Y. She was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. She was a member of the Monmouth Center for Vocational Rehabilitation. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Siciliano and Felix Siciliano; and a sister, Geraldine Wilkins. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Pasquale Vaccaro of Middletown; her son, Martin Vaccaro of Middletown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Teresa and Walter Olson of Middletown, and Angela Siciliano of Queens, N.Y.; four sisters, Margarite O’Hare of Manasquan, Ann Siciliano of Willmette, Ill., Frances Foster of Ocean Township, and Mary Juliano of Deal; three brothers, Sam Siciliano of Shrewsbury, Eugene Siciliano of Deal, and Joseph Siciliano of Interlaken; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Burial was at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.
