Michael E. Silvestri

Mr. Silvestri, 50, of Red Bank, died April 9 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Paterson, he had resided in Rumson before moving to Red Bank 20 years ago. Mr. Silvestri was the principal owner of R.E.M. Builders and Developers, Red Bank. He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia McGowan Silvestri. Mr. Silvestri is survived by his son, Streett P. Silvestri of Little Silver; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick J. and Laraine Silvestri, and Eric R. and Jennifer Silvestri, all of Middletown; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Patrick Lavelle of Middletown; his aunt, Sunny Silb; four nephews; and Streett Silvestri’s mother and sister, Blair and Sierra Richter. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 2 Princess Road, Suite D, Lawrenceville 08648. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Pearce

Mr. Pearce, 86, of Fort Collins, Colo., died April 18. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Red Bank and Long Branch prior to retiring to Fort Collins in 1986. He was a retired insurance agent and officer manager at Washington National Insurance Company, Trenton and Freehold. He served with the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Brighton Memorial Post No. 2140, Long Branch. He enjoyed fishing and photography. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Dowd Pearce; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Donald Pearce Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; Thomas and Donna Pearce of Littleton, Colo.; and David Pearce of Greeley, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Rod Frelinger of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and two grandchildren. A funeral service with full military honors was at Fort Logan (Colo.) National Cemetery.

Anna T. Weiss Schreiber

Mrs. Schreiber, 93, of Holmdel, died April 24 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Newark, she resided in Hazlet for 30 years prior to moving to Holmdel. She was a homemaker. She was a past member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Keyport. She was a past member of the Daughters of America. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, George Schreiber in 1984; three brothers, Arthur, Edward and George Weiss; and a sister, Edna Pease. She is survived by three daughters, Dale Compell of Hazlet, Barbara Darby of Oceanport, and Georgia Stiles of Red Bank; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be April 27 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A funeral service will be April 28 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens.

Mary Sodano Messinger

Mrs. Messinger, 96, of Union Beach, died April 14 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in Union and Hazlet before moving to Union Beach 20 years ago. Mrs. Messinger was a waitress at Charlie’s Place, Belford section of Middletown. Prior to that, she was employed at the Buttonwood Manor, Matawan, and Rollo’s, Keyport. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach, and worked at the church’s thrift shop. Mrs. Messinger was predeceased by her husband, John Messinger, in 1961; two brothers, Joseph Sodano and Anthony Sodano; and a sister, Rose Ferro. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce McMahon of Beach Haven and Gabriella Applegate of Anderson, S.C.; a son, John Messinger of Red Bank; two brothers, Gabriele Sodano of Toms River and Louis Sodano of Hazlet; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Church, followed by interment at Hollywood Cemetery, Union. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.

Clement W. Pace

Mr. Pace, 91, of Little Silver, died April 11 at home. He resided in Little Silver the past 50 years. He was an experimental machinist at Bell Laboratories, AT&T;, Holmdel, retiring in 1978. He served as a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Corps during World War II. He remained in the Air Force Reserve and also served from 1951-52 during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, where he served as an altar boy as a youngster. He was an associate member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and Red Bank Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. He was predeceased by a brother Anthony Pace. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ina Joe White Pace; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Pace of Lenexa, Kan.; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Lucy Pace of Little Silver; two sisters, Mildred Pace of Red Bank, and Virginia Peters of Toms River; a granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38173-0704.

Robert A. Nordt Sr.

Mr. Nordt, 88, died April 26 in Red Bank. Born in East Orange, he resided in Little Silver and in Bradenton, Fla. Before his retirement, Mr. Nordt was a pilot for Pan American Airlines, where he was employed 33 years. He was a member of the Airline Pilots Association. He was predeceased by his wife, Miriam Forsyth Nordt, in 1996, and three brothers. Mr. Nordt is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. and Stephanie Nordt of Shrewsbury, and Stephen and Lynn Nordt of Little Silver; a daughter, Margaret N. Zucker of Florida; and six grandchildren. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Constance S. Smith McNally

Mrs. McNally, 89, of Red Bank, died May 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Lansdowne, Pa., she had resided in Rumson for 30 years before moving to Red Bank. Mrs. McNally was a homemaker. She was active in Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey and the Shrewsbury Historical Society, as well as the Friends of Monmouth Beach Cultural Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald McNally Sr., in 2000. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harry C. Jones Jr. and Marie Castonguay Jones of Houston; three stepsons, Gerald McNally Jr. of Los Angeles, Geoffrey L. McNally of New York City, and Charles G. McNally, and his wife, Michele, of Scarsdale, N.Y.; and four step-grandchildren. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.

Chester Curtis Goss

Mr. Goss, 83, of Tinton Falls, died May 8 at home. He was born in Fort Scott, Kan. He was the retired president and CEO of CIT Corporation and CIT Leasing Corporation, New York City. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the New York Bar Association. He was predeceased by three children, Christine, David and Deirdre Goss. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Adrienne Lucey Goss; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Graydon and Eileen Goss of Middletown, and Robert and Nancy Goss of Colts Neck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Steven Pollack of Oak Park, Calif., Madonna and Alan Robinson of Shrewsbury, and Adrienne and Gregory McCabe of Furlong, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be celebrated May 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. Arrangements are by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to Father Flanagan’s Girls and Boys Town, 13940 Gutowski Road, Boys Town NE 68010-7535.

Raymond George Patterson Sr.

Mr. Patterson, 75, of Palm Coast, Fla., and formerly of Red Bank, died April 16 in Palm Coast. Born in Red Bank, he and his twin brother were the first set of twins born at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank. Mr. Patterson was a police officer in Red Bank for 32 years, retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a volunteer fireman with the Red Bank Independent Engine Company for 50 years, a member of the Red Bank Elks 49 years, and a lifetime member of Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local No. 39. Mr. Patterson was predeceased by two brothers, his twin, Harry, and Eugene. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Florence Marie Patterson; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Raymond and Sharon Patterson Jr. of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, and William Patterson of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul E. and Dorothy Patterson of Holmdel, Donald and Jacqueline Patterson of Red Bank, and Charles and Constance Patterson of Rotonda West, Fla. Arrangements were by the Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home, Flagler Beach, Fla. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1040 Woodcock Road, Suite 119. Orlando, FL 32803.

William “Bill” J. Cooper

Mr. Cooper, of Fair Haven, died May 6 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Fair Haven, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Cooper was a locksmith for the United States government at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, retiring after 44 years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Chapel, Ocean Township. Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Marie; a daughter, Mary; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Lou Cooper of Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Chapel, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Chapel, c/o the Rev. Francis Clifford, 57 Wickapecko Drive, Ocean Township 07712.

Joseph T. Grause

Mr. Grause, 86, died Jan. 2 in Needham, Mass. Born in Red Bank, he moved to Shrewsbury following his retirement. He was a partner in the law firm of Parsons, Canzona, Blair and Warren, Red Bank. He was secretary of the Riverview Medical Center Board of Trustees, Red Bank, for approximately 35 years, and was a member and past president of the New Jersey State Bar Association. Mr. Grause was predeceased by two brothers, George Grause and Jerome Grause; and two sisters, Dorothy Anderson and Mary McCallum. He is survived by his former wife, Ann H. Grause of Shrewsbury; two sons, Joseph T. Grause Jr. of Needham, Mass., and Robert C. Grause of Highlands; five daughters, Aimee Grause of Barrington, R.I.; Toni Penella of Fanwood; Beatrice Grause of Montpelier, Vt.; Elizabeth Simpson of Carlsbad, Calif.; and Heidi Thomas of Acton, Mass.; and 15 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
