JULIET CRYSTAL, 84, died May 21 at Manor Care Center, Freehold. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived there for many years, retiring with her husband to West Palm Beach, Fla., for 20 years, before moving to Freehold five years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis J. Crystal, in 1995. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ilene and Stuart Lehrer of Freehold; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sheila Crystal of Brooklyn; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. was in Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, N.Y.
MICHAEL GRASSO SR., 79, of Howell, died May 21 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Lakewood for 50 years before moving to Howell three years ago. He was a mason and part owner of G&B Construction until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Farmingdale. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters during World War II, and he received three bronze stars and the distinguished unit badge. He was a member of the Men’s Club at The Villages, Howell. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Grasso of Howell; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and JoAnn Grasso of Farmingdale; a daughter, Gina Germand of Hollister, Calif.; two sisters, Bertha Cutroneo of Staten Island, N.Y., and Carmella Triola of Cape Coral, Fla.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
PHILLIP F. LAMONT, 80, of Manalapan died May 21 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born and raised in Thomas, W.Va., he lived in Bayonne before moving to Manalapan 40 years ago. He was a mason with Local 15 in Edison until retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church in Englishtown. He is survived by his wife, Alice; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Donna of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Stan Mozdzen of Manalapan; two sisters, Lillian Montesana and Carmella Lamont, both of Bayonne; and three grandchildren. Interment
was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
CARRIE LYNN WOLFE, 19, of Farmingdale died May 31 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Neptune, she was a lifelong resident of Farmingdale. Ms. Wolfe was the valedictorian of Farmingdale Elementary School in 1998 and was a 2002 graduate of High Technology High School, Lincroft. She was a student at the Philadelphia Biblical University, where she studied the Bible and was involved in many activities at the university, including conducting tours and tele-counseling. She taught Sunday school for preschoolers at Calvary Baptist Church, Old Bridge, and was in the process of writing a children’s book and a novel. Ms. Wolfe is survived by her parents, John and Sue Wolfe of Farmingdale; two sisters, Erin Eileen Wolfe of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Colleen Marie Wolfe of Towson, Md.; her paternal grandparents, Ernest J. and Helen M. Wolfe of Neptune; and her maternal grandparents, Stanley J. and Beatrice S. Murday of Avon. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Farmingdale, followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Memorial donations may be made to a scholarship fund, which will be established in her memory.
ANNA CLAPS, 93, of Englishtown died May 22 at Victoria House, Matawan. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived there prior to moving to New Jersey three years ago. She was a sample maker for Bobby Brooks Clothing, New York City, N.Y., for 22 years, retiring 28 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Dominick Claps, in 1980; and a daughter-in-law, Roberta Claps, in 1994. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Vincent and Mary Ellen Claps, Freehold, and Joseph Claps, Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Interment
was in St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, N.Y.
MARION T. DEGENNARO, 81, of Marlboro died May 22 at home. Born in New York City, she lived in Baltimore and Paramus before moving to Marlboro 20 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church in Marlboro. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Interment
was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
EDITH M. GORDON, 92, of Freehold died May 22 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Berlin, Germany, she came to the U.S. in 1920, settling in Manhattan, N.Y. She lived in Aberdeen, West Keansburg and North Bergen before moving to Surrey Downs, Freehold, in 2002. She was a telephone operator at the New York Telephone Company for 20 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Abundant Life Church of God, Freehold. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael M. Surviving are a daughter, Lee Edgar of Freehold, and a grandson. Interment

LESTER G. APPLEGATE, 88, of Freehold Township, died May 28 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Jamesburg and lived in Englishtown prior to moving to Silvermead in Freehold Township many years ago. He was retired from the Training School for Boys, Jamesburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and an exempt firefighter from the Jamesburg Fire Department. He was predeceased by two brothers, Nelson and Elmer Applegate, and a sister, Gertrude. Surviving are is wife of 67 years, Elizabeth; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Connie Applegate, Las Vegas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. RICHARD T. LISHMAN, 66, of Beachwood, died May 26 at Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills. Born in Plainfield, he lived in Marlboro prior to moving to Beachwood 31 years ago. He was a plant manager for Trap Rock Industries, Kingston, for 35 years, retiring two years ago. Surviving are his wife, Helen Marie Weisneck Lishman; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael David Lishman of Beachwood and Richard James and Robin Lishman of the Bayville section of Berkeley Township; two sisters, Ann Moore and Doris Price, both of the Greenbrook section of Middlesex County; and three grandchildren. PATSY M. PETRUCCI, 90, of Freehold, died May 29 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he was raised in Italy and returned to the U.S., settling in Maspeth, Queens, N.Y., then living in Woodside before moving to The Villages, Freehold, in 1989. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Flushing, N.Y., for 30 years, retiring in 1971. He was a member of several clubs at The Villages. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Connie Petrucci of Freehold; a son, John J. Petrucci of Marlboro; and two grandchildren. Entombment was in St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro.
