MELVIN RITTER, 81, of Manalapan died April 29 at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center, New Brunswick. Born in New York City, he lived in Lakewood and Elizabeth, and in Manalapan for the last 24 years. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, Newark, and worked as a salesman for Liccardi Motors In Greenbrook for 15 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Army Air Corps and a veteran of World War II, serving from 1941 to 1946. He was a member of the Covered Bridge J.W.V. Post No. 536, a past member of the Covered Bridge Housing Committee, and a volunteer at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold for many years. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; his brother, Dr. Edward Ritter; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Interment
was in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.
DAVID C. MARDEN SR., 74, of Freehold Township died April 30 at his home. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he resided in Phoenix, Ariz., before moving to Freehold Township in 1968. He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1946-1953 in the Korean War. He worked as a systems engineer for Bellcore Co., Piscataway, for 17 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Toastmasters of America, Greater Monmouth Chapter, and an amateur radio enthusiast. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth L. Morse; two sons and daughters-in-law, David C. Jr. and Karen Marden of Verona, and Richard A. and Denise Marden of Manalapan; and four grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. KEVIN LEE SCHELLET, 45, of Manalapan died April 28 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Plainfield, he lived in Manalapan most of his life. He graduated from Manalapan High School in 1975 and was a carpenter for A Top Construction in Manalapan for the last two years. He was predeceased by his father, Wilbur. Surviving are his mother, Shirley of Toms River; a brother, Jeffrey of Alaska; a sister, Pamela Hawkins of Toms River; nieces and nephews; and his beloved Kathleen. Interment
was in Rosedale Cemetery
in Linden.
RUSSELL JOHN HOWELL, 61, of Freehold Township died May 1 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Queens Village, N.Y., he lived in Old Bridge before moving to Freehold Township 31 years ago. He was a limousine driver for Stagecoach Limousine, Marlboro. He was a charter member of the Freehold team in the Monmouth County Senior Softball League, where he was a player and coach. He was an umpire in the Freehold Borough Little League and the Freehold Township Little League. He was a private pilot. Surviving are his wife, Edwina Weis Howell; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Dana Howell of Howell; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Joseph Corson of Tinton Falls; a brother, Robert Howell of Florida; and three grandchildren. MARY STOLL, 88, of Keansburg died May 1 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Red Bank, she lived in Freehold for many years and in Spring Lake Heights before moving to Keansburg one year ago. She was a seamstress before her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip L. Stoll, in 1978. Surviving are a son, Phillip L. Stoll Jr. of Howell; and a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Anthony Tumminia, Spring Lake Heights. MARY V. DEMETSKI SZABATIN, 90, of East Brunswick died April 22 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, Steve, died in 1997. Surviving are a son, Stephen J. of Little Egg Harbor; two daughters, Barbara M. Masterson of Columbus and Arlene A. Biesiada of Englishtown; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. MARIE EMANUEL STEO, 82, of the Toms River section of Dover, formerly of Spotswood and Old Bridge, died April 20 in Bay Lea Village Care Center, Toms River. Her husband, John, died in 1982. Surviving are a son, Joseph Steo of Staten Island, N.Y.; a daughter, Sandra Chieffo of Toms River; four sisters, Beatrice Piccioli, Josephine LaRusso and Nancy Regan, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Antoinette Comparetto of the Morganville section of Marlboro; and five grandchildren. EDWARD T. CASLER JR., 61, of Matawan died April 14 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Hoboken, he lived in Toms River and Old Bridge before moving to Matawan 20 years ago. Mr. Casler was an institutional salesman trader on Wall Street for 36 years, beginning his career with C.J. Lawrence, Morgan Grenfell/Deutsche Bank, and retiring in 1998 from T.D. Securities of New York City. Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Deborah Casler; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. and Marcela Casler of Forked River, and Steven M. and Christy Casler of the Morganville section of Marlboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra A. and Sean Wozniak of Toms River; a brother, Patrick Casler of Houston; and four grandchildren. JOAN NEILL LANDMAN, 94, of Freehold Township died April 15 at Applewood Estates, Freehold Township. Born in Finglas, Ireland, the youngest of four sisters, she was raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, and came to the United States in the 1930s. She lived in Tenafly for 40 years before moving to Applewood Estates in 1994 with her husband. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Louis Landman, in 2002. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sandra Landman of Nashua, N.H., Dr. Steven and Joanne Landman of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and Eric and Victoria Landman of Freehold Township; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
