LOUISE LEBRIGHT, 100, of Manalapan died April 1 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in Queens, N.Y., she lived in Maspeth, Long Island, N.Y., before moving to Manalapan eight years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 1973. She is survived by a son, George Jr. of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Mary L. Kura of Manalapan; four granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. Interment
was in Pinelawn Cemetery, Pinelawn, Long Island, N.Y.
WINIFRED "WINI" R. CULLEN, 77, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died March 25 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in Hazlet before moving to Morganville four years ago. Mrs. Cullen was a church secretary at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, for 27 years, retiring in 1991. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Keyport. Her activities included spending time with her family and enjoying her new home. She was a Roxyette dancer with the USO (United Service Organizations) during World War II, and was also involved with small theater productions. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Cullen Jr., in 1992. She is survived by her son, William H. Cullen III of Somerset; her daughter, Patricia A. Skillman of Oswego, Ill.; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment in the parish cemetery, Keyport.
JEANNE DAURIO, 71, of Marlboro died March 24 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived there until moving to Marlboro 15 years ago. She is survived by her husband, Anthony; her mother, Jean Lombardi of Staten Island, N.Y.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine and Rick Frascati of Freehold, Ann and Mark Sciaraffo of Freehold, and Joanne and Domenick Calise of Jackson; two sisters, Margie DiPippo of Westport, Conn., and Annette Tomaselli of Staten Island, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Gabriel’s Church, Marlboro, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum. MARGARET M. PEDERSEN, 84, of Jackson, died March 24 at Jackson Health Care. She was born in Lakewood and moved to Jackson in 1968. She was a dance instructor at the YMCA and also worked as a home health aide. She was active in senior activities with the Oaktree Mobile Home Park and with the American Legion Auxiliary Post 0166 in Lakewood. She was a member of Siloam United Methodist Church, Jackson. She was predeceased by her first husband, Stanley Witkowski, and her second husband, Edward Pedersen; her brothers, John, Bernard and William Meyer; and her two sisters, Ann and Ruth. She is survived by two stepsons, Donald Witkowski of Englishtown, and Alfred Pedersen of St. Mary’s, Kan.; three stepdaughters, Diane Pedersen of West Windsor, Lois Raimondo of Jackson, and Penny Kaye of Fort Myers, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Interment
was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lakewood.
MARY ELLA MURPHY, 81, of Freehold Township died March 22 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in the Applegarth section of Monroe and lived in Marlboro before moving to Freehold, where she lived for most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. She was Great Pocahontas of the Great Council of New Jersey from 1970 to 1971 and past Pocahontas and Keeper of Records for Setting Sun Council No. 129, Freehold. She was a charter member of the St. Rose of Lima Senior Citizens Club where she was a trip coordinator. She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, William and Harvey Dubois, Freehold; and a niece, Barbara Martin, Freehold. Surviving are her husband, Clarence T. Murphy; a sister, Agnes Martin, Freehold Township; three nephews; and several great-nieces and -nephews. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
PATRICIA ANN COSGROVE, 76, of Freehold Township died March 23 at home. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Morganville for 25 years and in Hightstown for 25 years before moving to Freehold Township two years ago. She was a bookkeeper for Aljon’s, Hightstown, and an assembly supervisory for Frequency Electronic, Farmingdale. She was predeceased by her husband, William in 1975, and a brother, Harold Maxwell. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and J. Walter Freeman of S.C., Camille and James Carroll of Freehold Township, and Alyson and Hasan Patseliev of Hightstown; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
EMMA BERRY WENDT, 94, of Grapevine, Texas, a homemaker, died March 26, in Grapevine. She was predeceased by her husband, William; and five brothers, Thomas Richard Berry, Robert Stephen Berry, Joseph Henry Berry, James Justin Berry and William Berry. She was born in Jersey City on Sept. 16, 1908 and lived there her entire youth. She graduated from St. John Parochial School and St. Dominic Academy in Jersey City. Before her marriage in 1933 to William Francis Wendt, she worked in New York City for American Express. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Englishtown, where she resided until her move to Texas in 1979. In Englishtown she worked as a Realtor for Smith Realty. She was a parishioner of Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown, where she was on the board of directors and served as president of the Ladies Altar Rosary Society. She organized and presided over the senior citizens group in Englishtown. Her husband died in 1978, just before the family was to move to Texas as a result of the relocation of the Boy Scouts of America, her daughter Dolores’ employer. In Texas, Mrs. Wendt joined the Citizens Advisory Board of the Grapevine City Council. She was a member of the finance committee of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. She remained active until her death as a communicant of St. Francis Church. She took part in the work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, caring for the needy with clothes, food and money. She worked many hours in the group’s thrift store. She served in the local chapter of the AARP and in local politics. She also was a charter member of the BSA Camera Club in the Boy Scouts’ national office in Irving, Texas. She and her daughter, Dolores, were part-time residents of Palm Beach County, Fla. She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Wendt; a nephew, Robert Berry Jr., wife Edna, of Harrington Me., and their seven children; a sister-in-law, Catherine Berry and her two daughters and their children.
ELIZABETH MENDOLIA, 94, of Freehold died March 17 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Ridgewood, Queens, N.Y., before moving to Freehold. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and a member of the Ridgewood Senior Citizens. She was predeceased by her husband, John Mendolia, in 1965, and a son, Joseph Robert Mendolia. Surviving are a son, John Mendolia, of Nesconset, N.Y.; two daughters, Carolyn DeLuca of Manalapan, and Frances Arcone of Seldon, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, N.Y.
GIRRO "JERRY" POLVERINO, 77, of Freehold died March 21 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Matawan, he resided in Freehold most of his life. He was a driver at Nappi Trucking Corporation, Matawan, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the East Freehold Fire Company, Freehold Township, since 1971. He was predeceased by a sister, Anna; and a brother, Anthony Trezza. He is survived by his wife, Rosebud Polverino, and his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Ellen Polverino, all of Freehold Township; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kay A. and Dennis Buotote of Freehold, and Mary DiBenedetto of Manasquan; his brother, Samuel Polverino of Freehold Township; three sisters, Susan Giglio, Catherine Polverino and Mary DeLucia, all of Freehold; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Burial was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
CLEMENTINE CAMPAGNA, 91, of Freehold Township died March 18 at Applewood Healthcare Facility, Freehold Township. Born in Asbury Park, she lived in West Allenhurst for 30 years before moving to Freehold Township in 1990. She was a hairdresser in Ocean Grove, then owner of Clem’s Beauty Salon in Ocean Grove from 1957 to 1977. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church of Freehold and a member of the Woman’s Club of Freehold. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph, and a sister, Ernestine Campagna. Surviving is a sister, Therese Campagna, of Freehold. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by entombment at St. Catharine’s Cemetery/Mausoleum in Wall.
