JOHN C. SONN, 63, of Manalapan, died Feb. 10 at home. Born in Seelyville, Pa., he lived in Nutley before moving to Manalapan 38 years ago. He was a salesman for Fisher-Cohen in Newark before starting his own business, State Textile in Farmingdale. After moving to Manalapan, he was a maintenance worker for the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. He was predeceased by his wife Norma in 2002. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Rose Sonn of Jackson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Rich England of Jackson and Laura and David Brodack of Marlton; three brothers, David of Escondido, Calif., Charles of Nutley and Philip of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Winnie Lucas of Montgomery, Texas; and four grandchildren. Interment
was at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
JAMES C. DILLON, 78, of Freehold, died Feb. 11 at home. Born in New Brunswick, he resided in Millstone Township before moving to Freehold six years ago. He worked as a truck driver for Monmouth Beach Cold Storage for many years and was a policeman in Long Branch and a member of the Long Branch fire department. Most recently, he worked as truck driver for Matty’s Auto Parts, Manalapan. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife Sylvia in 1999. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverly and Rich Shearstone of Franklin Borough, Patty and Gary George, and Cathy Dillon; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sandra Hankins of Howell; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment
was in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.
ROLAND L. "TINY" REUTER, 75, of Whiting, died Feb. 12 at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Middletown for nine years before moving to Whiting four years ago. He was warehouse manager for H.J. Heinz, Newark, for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He also worked for Charles of the Ritz, Holmdel, for several years. He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II as a machinist mate third class. He was a member of VFW Post 4303, Keansburg, and a former communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Bartolina Campanella Reuter in 1999. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lin Conaway of Howell, Cheryl and Jim Demarais of Middletown, and Maryanne and Jim Bloodgood of Brick Township; and five grandchildren. Interment
was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
CONRAD "BUTCH" C. SCHUELER, 62, of Farmingdale died Feb. 12 at University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Philadelphia. Born in Jersey City, he was raised in Old Bridge and moved to Farmingdale in 1970. He was a union construction electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 456, North Brunswick, for 37 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia A. Schueler of Farmingdale; two daughters, Patricia Vollmar of South Brunswick and Christine Schueler of Farmingdale; one sister, Norma Schueler Totten of Old Bridge; one brother, Robert Schueler of Jackson; and one granddaughter. STANLEY F. WARHOL JR., 43, of Freehold Township, died Feb. 19 at home. Born in Neptune Township, he lived in Howell before moving to Freehold Township in 1994. He was a groundskeeper for Monmouth County, Freehold, for 18 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Irene, in 1974. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Stanley F. Sr. and Mary Lou Warhol of Beverly Hills, Fla.; a sister, Theresa Warhol of Woodbridge; and a maternal grandmother, Bertha Jabionski of Freehold Township. Interment
was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
BERTHA BAYARD, 83, of Manalapan died Feb. 16 at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., for 32 years before moving to Manalapan five years ago. She was an administrative assistant for the New York City Board of Education for 14 years, retiring in 1986. She was predeceased by her husband, Julius E. Bayard, in 2000. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Ronnie of Manalapan; a daughter and son-in-law, Emily Bayard and Greg Caulton of Amherst, Mass.; a brother, Hy Wiener of Fla.; and three grandchildren.
RALPH L. SMITH, 74, of Manalapan Township died Feb. 13 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Passaic, he resided in Freehold before moving to Manalapan Township 42 years ago. He worked as a carpenter out of Local #2250 in Red Bank for 34 years. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol and a member of the Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a 1950 graduate of Delaware Valley College, Doristown, Pa. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Manalapan Township; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Brianne of Santa Fe, Texas, Scott of Leonardo and Stuart of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Scott of Tinton Falls; and a grandson. KATHLEEN DOOLEY, 77, of Manalapan died Feb. 14 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Ireland, she lived in the Bronx, N.Y., before moving to Manalapan 36 years ago. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Manalapan. She is survived by her husband, John J.; two sons, Patrick of Rutherford and John of Manalapan; two daughters, May L’Hotta of Winfield, Ill., and Kathy Ivins of Clarksburg; a brother, Gus Quinlan of Ireland; a sister, Margaret Quinlan of Ireland; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held Feb. 17 at St. Thomas More Church, Manalapan, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.
KATHRYN K. BIRDSALL, 75, of Farmingdale died Feb. 17 at Geraldine Thompson Care Center in Wall Township. She was born in Spring Lake and had lived in Howell Township before moving to Farmingdale in 1951. She was employed as a legal secretary until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale, the Farmingdale Fortnightly Club, the Farmingdale Grange, and also a former Girl Scout Troop Leader. She volunteered for many years at Monmouth County Republican headquarters in Freehold. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Ketcham, who died during World War II. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Thomas W. Birdsall of Farmingdale; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Mary Birdsall of Sea Girt; one daughter, Barbara Birdsall of Wall Township; and two grandchildren. Interment
was at Hamilton Cemetery

ELIZABETH M. HURLEY, 91, of Freehold Township died Feb. 20 at Applewood Estates, Freehold Township. Born in Newark and raised in Adelphia, Howell Township, she lived in Farmingdale for 59 years before moving to Freehold Township in 1991. She was a seamstress for many years and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale for 60 years and had served on the official board and board of trustees of the church. She was a past president of the Farmingdale Fortnightly Club and of the Farmingdale Senior Citizens Organization, a past worthy matron of the Molly Pitcher Chapter 198 of the Order of the Eastern Star, a past treasurer of the Past Matron’s Club and a past treasurer of the Farmingdale Historical Society. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens’ Club of Freehold, the Freehold Woman’s Club and the Christian Women’s Club. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Frederick T., in 1994. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Wendy Hurley of Highlands; a daughter-in-law, Frances Hurley; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale.
