MAGDALENA Y. PHILLIPS , 88, died Jan. 22 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Millville, she lived in Baltimore; Norwalk, Conn.; and Howell before moving to Whiting last year. She was a clerk at Pitney-Bowes, Stanford, Conn., for seven years, retiring in 1973. She worked as a clerk at Pavey Envelope Co., Newark, from 1956 to 1966. She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1999; and a daughter, Magdalene P. Tobin, in 1995. Surviving are three sons, Wilbert K. of Gresham, Ore., Ralph G. of Brielle, and George G. of Freehold Township; two daughters, Wilberta M. Phillips of Whiting and Rosalee V. Thompson of Baltimore; one brother, George Brown of Maine; two sisters, Mary Stafenelli and Nettie Thomas of Baltimore; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandaughters. Interment was at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick.

ANNE H. CARTER, 72, of Freehold, died Jan. 23 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was born in Lakewood and lived in the Freehold area all her life. She was a senior control office clerk at AT&T in Freehold and Mercerville, where she was employed for 37 years before her retirement in 1985. She was a member of American Legion Post No. 54 Auxiliary, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a supporter of the Philip A. Reynolds Marine Corps Detachment, Freehold. Surviving are her husband, Raymond E. Carter; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert B. and Peggy Hanlon of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, George A. and Christe Carter of Rivera Beach., Fla., and Raymond E. and Barbara Carter Jr. of Juno Isle, Fla.; and four step-grandchildren. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations may be made to the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, 18 Spring St., Freehold 07728 or to the Philip A. Reynolds Detachment Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 885, Freehold 07728.

ERNEST HORTON, 80, of Freehold died Jan. 23 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born to Annie Henderson and William Horton in Albany, Ga., where he was raised prior to moving to Freehold. He was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur Lee Horton and James and Caesar Brown; two sisters, Edwina Fowler and Annie Lois Parker; a daughter, Alice Fay; and a son, Charles Buxton. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ida Mae Horton; three daughters and a son-in-law, Doris Jean Horton, Orlando, Fla., Bobbie Ann Henderson, Albany, Ga., and Lula and Sammie Shoats, Neptune; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian Everett and Wendell and Sharon Everett, Freehold; a sister, Elizabeth Michell, Albany, Ga.; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Second Baptist Church, followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

IRMA R. REICHENBERGER, 91, of Howell died Jan. 23 at The Manor, Freehold Township. She was born in Marlboro and lived in Hazlet before moving to Howell seven years ago. She was a former member of Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Manalapan. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 1977, and by two sons, Donald, in 1978, and Joseph, in 2001. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Clifford Reichenberger and Frank and Rosemarie Reichenberger, of Howell; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent Road, Tennent 07726. Interment was at Old Tennent Cemetery.

DONALD A. NOVIELLO, 73, of Freehold Township died Jan. 24 at home. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Manalapan before moving to Freehold Township in 1974. He was a retired self-employed machinist. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Ducato Noviello; two sons, Frank D. Noviello, Freehold, and Donald J. Noviello, Upper Freehold Township; a daughter, Donna Erndl, Millstone Township; a sister, Luise Piccolomini, Freehold; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church on Jan. 28, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Perrineville section of Millstone.

RICHARD LEE PERRY JR., 56, of Howell Township died Jan. 25 at home. He was born in Long Branch and lived in the Freehold area all his life. He was a truck driver for Atlantic Sanitation, Cheesequake. He was a U.S. Army paratrooper, serving in the Vietnam War. Surviving are his four sons, Richard Perry III and Kevin Carl Perry, both of Georgia, Andrew Arthur Perry, Freehold, and Andre Perry, Asbury Park; a daughter, Lenette Perry, Lakewood; his mother, Viola Warren Austin, with whom he lived; and his companion, Margot Brissman.

WARREN F. SCHUCH, 83, of Colts Neck died Jan. 26 at home. He was born in Jersey City and lived in West Orange before moving to Colts Neck in 1970. He was owner/operator of Turf Grass Sod Farms, Howell Township for more than 40 years, with his business partner and lifelong friend, Luther LeBarre. He was past president of the New Jersey Sod Growers Association. and a sergeant major in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Craig Schuch, Colts Neck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Warren B. and Wendy Von Schuch, Midlothian, Va., and Karl L. and Cherie Schuch, New Market, Md.; one daughter, Beverly L. Schuch, New York City; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

LILLIAN L. HOHSFIELD, 80, of Marlboro Township died Jan. 27 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel Township. She was born in Jersey City and lived in Matawan for 35 years before moving to Marlboro Township last August. She was an accounting clerk for Middlesex Water, Woodbridge, where she was employed for 20 years before her retirement 15 years ago. She was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Redeemer, Old Bridge, where she served as Eucharistic Minister. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Lester Hohsfield, who died in 1994. Surviving are a son, James C. Shindle III, Jackson; a daughter, Joanne R. Knox, Aberdeen; a brother, Thomas O’Leary, Sayreville; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services were at the Church of the Holy Redeemer, followed by interment at Forest Green Cemetery, Marlboro.

JOSEPH JOHN PETTINATO IV, 46, of Manalapan Township died Jan. 27 at home. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Hazlet most of his life, moving to Manalapan in 1985. He was co-owner of J.B. Sales and Service, Hazlet. He was an active member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Englishtown. He is survived by his wife, Robin; a son, Joseph John V, Manalapan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Jose Cruz, Howell, and Jessica and John Henry Broering, Freehold; his parents Joseph and Joan, Hazlet; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Pettinato, Manalapan; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Debra Joan and Joseph Puccio, Hazlet, Ellen Marie and James Compesi, Garfield, Maryann and Michael Scotti, Aberdeen, Lori Ann and Mark Lear, Morgan, and Joyce Lynn and Kevin Murphy, Middletown; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Jan. 30 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, 07702, or Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

ELIZABETH "BESSIE" CONWAY, 84, of Freehold died Jan. 28 at home. She was born in Manalapan Township and lived in the Freehold area all her life. She was a health care worker at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, where she was employed for 10 years before her retirement in 1981. Prior to that she was employed at Brockway Glass Company, Freehold Township. She was predeceased by her husband, John K. Conway Sr., in 1980, and by six brothers and two sisters. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John and Donna Conway, Tennent; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ed Surgent, Farmingdale; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
