LAWRENCE SAMUEL FISCHER, 75, of Old Bridge died April 29 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was a lieutenant with the New Jersey State Police, where he worked for 30 years. Surviving are a son, Patrick Fischer of Old Bridge; a daughter, Staci F. Laico of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Robert Fischer of Old Bridge and Frank Fischer of Hallstead, Pa.; three sisters, Stella Gartarz of East Brunswick, Frances Edly of North Brunswick and Helen Scott of Smyrna, Ga.; and a granddaughter. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the Suncoast Center for Community Mental Health, 4024 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, FL 33711.
LEON WIECZOREK, 75, of Old Bridge died May 3 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Burdynski Wieczorek, and by a great-grandson, Martin Wieczorek III. Surviving are his wife, Ingrid Fuchs Wieczorek; two sons, Martin Wieczorek and Leon Wieczorek Jr., both of Old Bridge; a daughter, Marylee Condren of Lakewood; three stepchildren, Phyllis Riggleman of Ewing, Petra Leonard of Tinton Falls and Peter Hahnke of North Brunswick; two sisters, Theresa Judson of South River and Lillian Spina of South Amboy; a brother, Charles Wieczorek of South River; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment
was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
LOREN S. "CHICK" NELSON, 71, of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick, died April 30 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Spotswood, he resided in South River prior to moving to Kendall Park 30 years ago. He was the retired owner and operator of Nelson Home Improvements, Old Bridge, for 35 years. He was predeceased by his son, Loren S. "Butchie" Nelson, in 1981. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dolores Muckin Nelson of Kendall Park; two daughters, Lorraine Silowka of Kendall Park, and Elizabeth K. Nelson of Longwood, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be May 2 from 7-9 p.m. at Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River.
JOHN KERSNOWSKY, 83, of Spring Hill, Fla., and formerly of South Brunswick, died April 23 at home. Born in New York City, he resided in South Brunswick prior to moving to Florida in 1978. He was a paint sprayer at Ford Motor Co., Edison, prior to retirement in 1978. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Patoray Kersnowsky in 1995; his son, John R. Kersnowsky in 1964; and a sister, Helen Michaelson. He is survived by his son, Thomas Kersnowsky of Spring Hill, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and William Kwiatkowski of North Brunswick, and Gloria and Arthur Koller Sr. of Edison; his sister, Josephine Gulis of Edison; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary’s of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Burial was at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
KITTY FISHMAN RIGELHAUPT, 90, of Franklin Township, died April 25 at Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged, Franklin Township. Born in New York City, she resided in Newark, and Miami Beach, Fla., for seven years, prior to moving to New Jersey in 1982. She was a retired dietitian at Cohen’s Foods, Newark. She was president of the Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training (ORT), Miami Beach, Fla.; a volunteer at Deborah, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick; and a member of the Senior Club of South Brunswick. She was predeceased by her husband, Abraham Rigelhaupt. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Marvin Glasman of Kendall Park; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
CHARLES F. SCATURRO, 73, of Spotswood died April 25 at home. A daughter, Lynn Scaturro, died in 2002. Surviving are his wife, Arlene Eagles Scaturro; five daughters, Carol Scaturro Ruiz of the Somerset section Franklin, Jan Marie Hillyer and Reyne Scaturro, both of Spotswood, and Melany Scaturro and Mary Beth Scaturro, both of North Brunswick; a son-in-law, Robert Pommerencke of Marlboro; a brother, Frank Scaturro of Spotswood; and four grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick. ANTHONY PAWLOWSKI, 90, of South River died April 26 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Prior to his retirement in 1975, he was employed as a chemical operator with National Lead Industries, Sayreville, where he worked for 40 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Nell Schultz Pawlowski; by a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Goldie Pawlowski; and by a grandson, Gus Wenzel. Surviving are two sons, Walter Pawlowski of Sayreville and Thomas Pawlowski of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick; four daughters, Gloria Czech of the Hamilton Square section of South Brunswick, Florence Wenzel of Milltown, Joyce Trzeciak of South River and Louise Cia of Monroe; two brothers, Walter Pawlowski of South River and Stanley Pawlowski of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment
was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
JOSEPH S. MINCHILLI, 60, of North Brunswick died April 21 at home. Born in Jersey City, he resided there before moving to North Brunswick 30 years ago. He was self-employed. Prior to that, he was a customer service representative in New York City, and worked in the collection department at various Fleet Bank branches. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Soyka Minchilli of North Brunswick; his daughter, Elizabeth Minchilli of North Brunswick; his mother, Betty Impalli Minchilli of Ocean Township; and two sisters, Loretta Marchitto and Frances Cuthbert, both Ocean Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. April 24 at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. Cremation will follow at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick.
JAMES S. ORSO, 81, of North Brunswick died April 15 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick, he was a lifelong resident of North Brunswick. He was the owner of Orso Nursery, North Brunswick, prior to retirement in 1991. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. He is survived by four nephews, Orin Orso and Pat Orso of North Brunswick, George Orso of Montgomery, and Thomas Farino Jr. of Jamesburg; three nieces, Monica Orso of New Brunswick, and Patricia David and Kathy Holert of Seattle, Wash.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Interment
was at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Brunswick.
JOHN J. FLANAGAN JR., 84, of North Brunswick died April 18 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Boston, he resided in Union prior to moving to North Brunswick in 1959. He owned and operated John’s Amoco Service Station, New Brunswick, for 20 years, retiring in 1992. Prior to that, he worked at Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, and served as Middlesex County sheriff from 1969-71. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard in the Pacific during World War II. He was a communicant of and past president of the Holy Name Society at St. Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic Church, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick. He was a member of the North Brunswick Township Committee, and served as township police commissioner, both from 1963-68. His memberships included the North Brunswick Republican Club and Lions Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Teresa Simon Flanagan in 1993. He is survived by three daughters, Joanne Pierro of Lynnfield, Mass., Janis T. Flanagan of Roebling, and Jill Ann Flanagan of Neptune; his sister, Claire Beck of Manumet, Mass.; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic Church, Kendall Park. Burial was at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
