JOHN P. BASTEK, 81, of Sayreville died Feb. 13 in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Surviving are his wife, Frieda Offenberger Bastek; two daughters, Bernadette MacKie of Spotswood and Barbara Bastek-Coogan of Sayreville; a son, Bruce Bastek of Monroe; and six grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment
was in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin section of Sayreville.
GILDA S. CARBONELL, 74, of Old Bridge died Feb. 12 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Surviving are four sons, Rafael Lim of Old Bridge, Lester Lim and Michael Lim, both of the Philippines, and Joey Lim of Thailand; two daughters, Jean dela Cruz of the Philippines and Susan Baldwin of Florida; a sister, Naty Carbonell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 14 grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment
was private.
JOHN LOUREIRO, 65, of the Somerset section of Franklin died Feb. 20 at home. He was predeceased by a son, John. Surviving are his wife, Lucille Aiello Loureiro; two sons, Michael Loureiro of Edison and James Loureiro of Spotswood; a daughter, Karen Crespo of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick; two sisters, Elaine Mendicino of Naples, Fla., and Helen Monaco of Florida; and seven grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Cecilia’s Church, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. Interment
was in Holy Cross Burial Park, also South Brunswick.
CATHERINE T. FLYNN, 88, of the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen died Feb. 2 at Bayshore Health Center, Holmdel. Born in New York City, she was a lifelong resident of Cliffwood. She was employed at MetLife, New York City, and was a clerk at J.J. Newberry’s, Keyport, retiring in 1973. She was a member of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. She was an organizer of the Cliffwood Elementary School PTA in 1945. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, William A. Davis in 1993; her sister, Marion Coyle in 1984; her brother, Richard Tarrant in 1976; and her husband, Edward J. Flynn Sr. in 1983. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Davis of Cliffwood; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. and Carol Flynn Jr. of Princeton Junction, Thomas J. and Sheri Flynn of Ewing, and Robert J. Flynn and Alicia Kapheim of Pennington; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. MARIAN J. HARTMAN DUEKER, 87, of North Brunswick died Feb. 20 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Jersey City, she resided in New Brunswick prior to moving to North Brunswick in 1959. She was a mail clerk at Boy Scouts of America’s National Headquarters, North Brunswick, for 20 years, retiring in 1981. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick. She was a member of the North Brunswick Senior Citizens, and involved in its woodcarving club. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Dueker, in 1965. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Rose Marie Dueker of North Brunswick; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. EDWARD J. ZALEWSKI, 75, of North Brunswick died Feb. 20 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in South River, he resided there until moving to North Brunswick in 1959. He was a store manager at Acme Markets at several central New Jersey locations for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was predeceased by a son, Eugene E. Zalewski, in 2002. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Vig Zalewski; his son, Nicholas E. Zalewski; and his mother-in-law, Priscilla Vig, all of North Brunswick; his brother, Walter Zalewski of Sayreville; and his sister, Mary Pryzgoda of South River. GEORGE SALOOM JR., 45, of South Brunswick died March 5 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick, he resided in North Brunswick prior to moving to South Brunswick three years ago. He was an investigator in the detective bureau at North Brunswick Police Department the past 22 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick. He was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks No. 324, New Brunswick, PBA Local No. 160, North Brunswick, and Police Emerald Society, as well as the North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company No. 2. He received several commendations for his detective work, including the Exceptional Service Medal, and Life Saving Medal. He was co-founder of the North Brunswick Police, died, Retirement, Widows and Orphans Fund, was a police artist, and also participated in the search-and-rescue mission at the World Trade Center site. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Carol Mosco Saloom and Samantha Ann Saloom, both at home; and his father, George Saloom, his mother, Connie Leotta Saloom, and his sister, Cindy Saloom, all of North Brunswick. VICTOR DAVID COSKEY JR., 65, of Colts Neck, died March 1 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pa. Born in New Brunswick, he lived in North Brunswick before moving to Colts Neck 30 years ago. He graduated from New Brunswick High School and the RCA Institute in New York City. He served in the military at Fort Dix and Fort Monmouth where he taught electronics. He worked at Westinghouse Co., where he was instrumental in the development of color television, before starting his own business, Coskey’s Radio & Television Sales and Services, now known as Coskey Electronic Systems, in North Brunswick. He was a choir director for several area churches, including East Brunswick Assembly of God and Freehold Assembly of God. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Judy Mae Watson Coskey; one son and daughter-in-law, Victor David III and Tanya Coskey of Tinton Falls; two daughters, Amy Coskey of Freehold and Stephanie Coskey of Red Bank; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Diane Coskey of St. Louis; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Full Gospel Church in Wall Township, followed by interment in Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick.
CELIA ULAR SHEPSKO, 90, of East Brunswick died March 8 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, Paul Shepsko, died in 1963. Surviving are three sons, Edward of North Brunswick, Paul of East Brunswick and Eugene of Spotswood; a sister, Edna Ejk of South River; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. ESTELLE E. VALONE SUPER, 90, of Milltown died March 4 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, and by a granddaughter, Catherine Gschwend. Surviving are four daughters, Catherine Gschwend of East Brunswick, Estelle Pagano of Milltown, Mary Diem of South River and Linda Bezek of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick; a son, Frank Super of East Brunswick; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
