DOLORES T. ILARDI LUTKUS, 56, of Hazlet died Aug. 20 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Newark, Kenilworth and Irvington prior to moving to Hazlet 30 years ago. She was a teacher at Lillian Drive School, Hazlet, retiring in 1996. Prior to that, she taught in Newark until 1972. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her parents, Dominic Ilardi in 1987, and Margaret Ilardi in 1996. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Lutkus of Hazlet; four daughters and one son-in-law, Maria Lutkus of San Diego, Calif., Ann and Keir Kasmer of Hazlet, and Donna Lutkus and Gina Lutkus, both of San Diego; and two grandsons. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. GEORGE C. SAPPAH JR., 85, of Keyport died Aug. 20 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Union Beach prior to moving to Keyport 40 years ago. He was a yardman at Anchor Motor Freight/GM, Linden, for 20 years, retiring in 1983. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Teamsters Union No. 469, Hazlet, and a life member of both Union Beach First Aid Squad and Union Gardens Fire Company, Union Beach. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Kolodziej, in 2000; and his brother, Robert J. Sappah, in 1971. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Layton Sappah of Keyport; four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Kennedy of Keyport, Nancy and Richard Maag of River Bank, Calif., Patricia and Steven Witt of Modesto, Calif., and Mary and Lee Gashlin of Bayville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, George R. and Eleanor Sappah of Keyport, and John Sappah of St. Paul, Minn.; two sisters, Grace Schaufler of Keyport, and Eileen DeFazio of Cape May; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. DAVID M. EDWARDS, 36, of Middletown died Aug. 9. He was a lifelong resident of Middletown. He was an alarm electrician at Arjay Associates, Red Bank, for the past 20 years. He was an avid sportsman and member of the Cocktail Bowman Hunting Club. He is survived by his wife of three years and his daughter, Donna and Faith Edwards, both at home; his parents, Caroline and Richard Edwards of Coventry, N.Y.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Lori Edwards, and Steven and Cathi Edwards, all of Middletown; his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Edwards and Edward Orr of Brantlake, N.Y.; and three nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Aug. 13 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be held Aug. 14 at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial will be at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown.
BONNIE LEE CHERNAVSKY GLENN, 51, of Long Branch, formerly of Fair Haven, died July 30 at Madison Center, Matawan. Born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, she resided in Fair Haven for 18 years before moving to Long Branch 10 years ago. Mrs. Glenn is survived by her husband, Roy Glenn; two daughters, Shannon Neopolitano Beckner of Brick and Marni Neopolitano Gutierrez of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her mother, Patricia Chernavsky of Manasquan; two brothers, Danny Chernavsky of Fair Haven and Dennis Redditt of Lumberton; three sisters, Sue Smith of Manasquan, Jill Homefield of Middletown, and Bridget Vanderbos of Spring Lake Heights; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
ALBA SYLVIA PISTORIO SIGNORIELLO, 77, of Manalapan died July 31 at home. Born in Messina, Sicily, she lived in Staten Island, N.Y., for 34 years before moving to Covered Bridge in Manalapan 22 years ago. Mrs. Signoriello came to the United States on the U.S. hospital ship Algonquin in 1946. She was a member of Monmouth Worship Center, Marlboro. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, George W. Signoriello; three sons, Frank N. Signoriello of Colorado Springs, Colo., Vincent J. Signoriello of Matawan and George W. Signoriello Jr. of East Brunswick; four daughters, Antonia Westgate of Pocono Summit, Pa., Josephine Crain of Colorado Springs, Fannie F. Eison of Apex, N.C., and Mary I. Megna of Manalapan; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Monmouth Worship Center, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
MAE L. PETRY DeROCKER, 84, of Holmdel died July 28 at King James Nursing Home, Middletown. Born in Kearny, she resided in Hazlet and Middletown prior to moving to Holmdel. She was a sales clerk at Bradlees, Hazlet, for 18 years, retiring in 1981. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach, where she was a member of the Golden Age Seniors Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert J. DeRocker, in 1981; and a son, William H. DeRocker, in 1987. She is survived by her son, George A. DeRocker of Middletown; her daughter, Karen M. DeRocker of Red Bank; her sister, Edna Conn of Clearwater, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
LOUIS G. ROTONDELLA, 81, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Aug. 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Hoboken, he resided in Jersey City prior to moving to Belford in 1973. He was a diesel mechanic at Howland Hook, Staten Island, N.Y., for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Middletown; American Legion No. 338, Leonardo section of Middletown; the International Longshoremen’s Association Local No. 1804, New York City; and the Order of the Purple Heart. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Rotondella in 1986; a son, John Rotondella in 2000; his brother, Anthony Rotondella; and a granddaughter, Kerri Rotondella. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Louis A. and Elizabeth Rotondella of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and Mark Rotondella of Belford; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Angelo DiVirgilio of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet; his sister, Mary Reed of Port Monmouth; his brother, Frank Rotondella of Keansburg; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial was at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
CLAUDE K. CORNELL, 85, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died Aug. 5 at home. Born in Freehold, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Cornell was an engineering technician for the U.S. government at Fort Monmouth until he retired in 1972. He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Freehold and taught Sunday school there for many years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Freehold Post; American Legion Post 54; and the YMCA Volunteers for Monmouth Youth. Mr. Cornell was predeceased by his wife, Jean, and a brother, Russell. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sally Cornell of Matawan; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jean Ann Huck of Abington, Pa., and Pattie and Bill Chambers of Freehold; and six grandchildren. Interment
took place at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
MIRIAM A. BOWER HAYWOOD, 78, of Hazlet died Aug. 5 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Paterson, she resided there and in Gulf Breeze, Fla., before moving to Hazlet in 1999. She was a homemaker and worked evenings at Marcal Paper Mills, Elmwood Park. She attended Calvary Baptist Church, Aberdeen. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Haywood Sr. in 1997; and a son, Alexander Haywood Jr. in 1999. She is survived by four daughters, Susan Graves of Hawthorne, Cindy Daulton of Hazlet, Gail Ann Flack of Florida, and Cheryl Metty of Paterson; two sons, Walter M. Haywood of Browns Mills, and Robert Haywood of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A service was held at Calvary Baptist Church, Aberdeen. Burial was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
BELLE MIELE, 88, of Bradenton, Fla., and formerly of Keansburg, died Aug. 6 at Blake Medical Center, Bradenton. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Keansburg prior to moving to Bradenton in 1976. She was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, Bradenton, and former communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Miele; and her brother, Phillip Mustello. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Joseph R. Miele of Middletown, and Dr. Frank A. Miele Jr. of Holmdel; her daughter, Maria B. Fiscella of Bradenton, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg.
