BARBARA J. DOLAN PRESCOTT, 54, of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge died Aug. 6 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Long Branch, she was a lifelong resident of Laurence Harbor. She was a picker and packer at L’Oreal, Dayton section of South Brunswick. She was predeceased by her mother, Eleanor Rogers Dolan in 1995. She is survived by her father, Raymond Dolan of Hazlet; her husband, Edward W. Prescott Sr. of Laurence Harbor; her son, Edward W. Prescott Jr.; her sister, Eleanor Dolan of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet; her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Eileen Dolan Jr. of Howell; two grandchildren; and three nieces.
BEATRICE S. ADAMS, 62, of Keyport died Aug. 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she resided there before moving to Keyport 35 years ago. Mrs. Adams was a certified nursing assistant at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet, where she worked 26 years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was a member of Local Union No. 1199, Greater Nursing Home Division. She enjoyed time with her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Adams is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronald and Kathleen Adams Jr. of Old Bridge, and Gary Adams of Keyport; a daughter and son-in-law, Donnamarie and Wayne Jablonski of Union Beach; her former husband, Ronald Adams Sr.; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be Aug. 6 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Aug. 7 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. LOUIS G. ROTONDELLA, 81, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Aug. 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Hoboken, he resided in Jersey City before moving to Belford in 1973. Mr. Rotondella was a diesel mechanic at Howland Hook, Staten Island, N.Y., for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Middletown; American Legion No. 338, Leonardo section of Middletown; the International Longshoremen’s Association Local No. 1804, New York City; and the Order of the Purple Heart. Mr. Rotondella was predeceased by his wife, Anna Rotondella, in 1986; a son, John Rotondella, in 2000; and a granddaughter, Kerri Rotondella. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Louis A. and Elizabeth Rotondella of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and Mark Rotondella of Belford; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Angelo DiVirgilio of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet; a sister, Mary Reed of Port Monmouth; a brother, Frank Rotondella of Keansburg; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be Aug. 6 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be held Aug. 7 at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
JOSEPH J. STRANO, 65, of Atlantic Highlands died July 21 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City. Born in Newark, he resided in Holmdel prior to moving to Atlantic Highlands five years ago. He was a professor at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, since 1959, and received its Excellence in Teaching Award in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. He received his doctor of philosophy degree at Rutgers University, New Brunswick; he was a registered professional engineer and the recipient of National Science Foundation fellowships at both Rutgers and Stevens Institute of Technology. He was an avid fisherman and conservationist. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph P. Strano. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, JoAnn Strano of Atlantic Highlands; his mother, Nicolina Ribolotti Strano; his sister and brother-in-law, Diane C. and George C. Van Ness of Manalapan; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. LINDA HARKNESS MARSH KUDILE, 55, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died July 29 following an 18-year battle with lymphoma. She resided in Pennsylvania and various towns in New Jersey prior to moving to Lincroft. She was a registered nurse and served as a labor and delivery nurse in several states, as well as assisting at the birth of several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Lincroft. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, and Poricy Park, Middletown. She enjoyed cooking, nature, and was an environmental as well as a human rights advocate. She is survived by her husband, Ron Kudile; her son, Jeffrey Kudile; her mother, Bonnie Harkness Marsh; and her brother and two sisters, Jim, and Carol and Amy and their families; and several nieces and nephews. MAY L. BRYCE, 73, of Freehold Township died July 31 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township 12 years ago. Mrs. Bryce was a seamstress and gourmet cook. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and volunteered at the parish in various capacities. Mrs. Bryce was predeceased by a brother, Frank. Mrs. Bryce is survived by her husband, Martin J. Bryce Jr.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Martin J. Bryce III of Larkspur, Calif., and Mark S. and Andrea Bryce of Petaluma, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Silvestro of Old Bridge; a brother, Joseph Farello of Holmdel; two sisters, Anna Rose Leonardo of Staten Island and Marie Farello of Matawan; and one granddaughter. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Rose of Lima Chapel, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
JAMES E. DUGAN, 79, of Howell died July 31 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in the Bradevelt section of Marlboro, Mr. Dugan lived there before moving to Howell a year ago. He was a partner in his family business, the F.J. Dugan & Sons Feed, Grain and Coal Co., Marlboro, for 20 years. After his years in the family business, he was employed as an operating engineer for National Lead Co., Perth Amboy, and then retired as chief engineer after 17 years at the W.C.I. Corp., Edison. Mr. Dugan was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater on the Destroyer Escort 343, USS Abercrombie. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 1454, Freehold; and local No. 68, Operating Engineers, AFLCIO, West Caldwell. He was predeceased by a son, James Dugan, in 1960, and a daughter, Regina M. Dugan, in 1995. Mr. Dugan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Krystoff Dugan; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Cynthia Dugan of Aberdeen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah A. and Richard Galatro of Oakhurst, and Carolyn Dugan of Holmdel; two brothers, Frank J. Dugan Jr. of Matawan and Jack Dugan of Freehold Township; a sister, Sara Frank of Howell; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Church, followed by interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro.
DR. GEORGE J. BRUCKER, 81, of West Long Branch, died Aug. 1 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Eatontown prior to relocating to West Long Branch in 1969. Dr. Brucker was a consultant to the U.S. Army, Fort Monmouth, since 1992, as well as NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. Prior to that, he was senior staff scientist at Astor-Space Division, and RCA David Sarnoff Laboratories, both Princeton, and as a nuclear scientist at Fort Monmouth. He was a nuclear and radiation physicist and authority on atomic bomb radiation effects on electronic systems and devices. He served with the U.S. Navy assigned to an LST (landing ship tank) in the Pacific Fleet, Amphibious Forces where he participated in the landing on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged after three years. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, West End section of Long Branch. During his career, he published 94 papers, and he and his colleague, Dr. S. Kronenberg, were awarded three patents from research at Fort Monmouth, Nuclear Research Facility. He was responsible for investigating and characterizing the silicon intensifier tube for use in the television system of the Apollo spacecraft and the Moon Rover Vehicle, and designed and carried out experiments to characterize state-of-the-art semiconductor integrated circuits in nuclear and space environments. Dr. Brucker was predeceased by a sister, Ann Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria Orlacchio Brucker; a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Bonnie Brucker of Houston; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Drs. Michele and Kevin Collier of Monmouth Beach, Deborah Kelly of Chicago, and Jackie and Robert Stuckey of Raleigh, N.C.; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. BONNIE LEE CHERNAVSKY GLENN, 51, of Long Branch, formerly of Fair Haven, died July 30 at Madison Center, Matawan. Born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, she resided in Fair Haven for 18 years before moving to Long Branch 10 years ago. Mrs. Glenn is survived by her husband, Roy Glenn; two daughters, Shannon Neopolitano Beckner of Brick and Marni Neopolitano Gutierrez of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her mother, Patricia Chernavsky of Manasquan; two brothers, Danny Chernavsky of Fair Haven and Dennis Redditt of Lumberton; three sisters, Sue Smith of Manasquan, Jill Homefield of Middletown, and Bridget Vanderbos of Spring Lake Heights; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
EDWARD JOHN PATRICK GALLAGHER SR., 81, of Middletown died July 28 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Staten Island, N.Y., prior to moving to Middletown 47 years ago. He was an insurance broker for 59 years and the sole proprietor of Nixon-Gallagher Co., New York City, for 36 years, retiring in January. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the board of directors at the Norcross Wildlife Foundation. He was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Gallagher, in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Johanna Shortall Gallagher of Middletown; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Lynn Gallagher Jr. of Furlong, Pa., Stephen and Ann Gallagher of Manalapan, and Matthew and Sharon Gallagher of Allentown; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Patricia Gallagher and husband James of Hopewell, Mary Gallagher and husband Mark of St. Paul, Minn., Elizabeth Gallagher of Keasbey, and Kathryn Gallagher and husband Laurence of Arlington, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Edna Gallagher of Upper Saddle River; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and William Ryder of Staten Island, and Therese Brown of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be July 31 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
