MARIAN HYER DANLEY, 86, of South River died May 24 in McCarrick Care Center, Somerset section of Franklin. Her husband, Walter Danley, died in 1983. Surviving are a son, Walter Danley of East Brunswick; a daughter, Bonnie Boettger of North Brunswick; two sisters, Evelyn Danley of South River and Madeline Meissner of Keyport; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment
was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
JOSEPH GAJ, 78, of Freehold died July 16 at home. Born in Otalez, Mielec, Poland, he lived in Germany before moving to Freehold in 1951. Mr. Gaj was a maintenance employee at the 3M Co., Freehold Township, for 25 years before retiring 17 years ago. Before that, he was a custom weaver for the A&M Karagheusian Rug Mill, Freehold. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mr. Gaj is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Kirkitcha Gaj; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marian and Kathy Gaj of Millstone, and Paul and Donna Gaj of Howell; a sister, Cecilia Sienkowski of Allentown; and four grandchildren. Interment
took place at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
DR. LESTER B. YOUNG, 83, of Johnson City, Tenn., died July 5 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, Tenn. A graduate of Auburn (Ala.) University School of Veterinary Medicine, he was the owner of Young’s Animal Clinic, Johnson City, before retiring in 1983. He served on the Tennessee State Veterinary Examining Board and was one of the organizers of the Appalachian Veterinary Association. He was awarded the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Young was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was also a member of the Horticulture Interest Society. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bert and Raymond Young, and two sisters, Lola Remine Carter and Lela Lacy. Surviving are his wife, Geneva Gouge Young, of Johnson City; two sons, Lester B. Young Jr. and his wife, Adele, of Freehold Township, and George S. Young and his wife, Pam, of Elizabethton; a daughter, Marlene, and her husband, Dr. Andy Collins of Kingsport, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Alan Young and his wife, Amanda, of Philadelphia, Leslie Young of Freehold Township, Andy and Matthew Young of Elizabethton, and Kimberly and Christopher Collins of Kingsport; and a brother, Roy Young of Johnson City. The funeral service was conducted at First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, followed by interment at the Patton-Simmons Cemetery, Carter County, Tenn.
LILLIAN F. STANLEY, 89, Lincroft section of Middletown, died July 9 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was a retired employee of the Social Security Administration, New York City. She was a member of the Reformed Church of Tinton Falls. She volunteered for several various organizations, including Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Stanley Sr.; and a brother, Henry G. Ruter. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward Stanley Jr. of Lincroft, with whom she lived, and Robert and Eija A. Stanley of New York City; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be July 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Reformed Church of Tinton Falls. DOROTHY ZAK ZAKLASNIK, 92, of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, died July 16 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in New York City, she resided there prior to moving to West Keansburg 51 years ago. She was a retired waitress at the Molly Pitcher Inn, Red Bank, and Langfords Inn, Belford section of Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, John Zaklasnik in 1964; and her son, John Zaklasnik in 2001. She is survived by two granddaughters. A funeral service will be held July 16 at 10 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
ROLAND L. "TINY" REUTER, 75, of Whiting, died Feb. 12 at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Middletown for nine years before moving to Whiting four years ago. He was warehouse manager for H.J. Heinz, Newark, for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He also worked for Charles of the Ritz, Holmdel, for several years. He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II as a machinist mate third class. He was a member of VFW Post 4303, Keansburg, and a former communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Bartolina Campanella Reuter in 1999. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lin Conaway of Howell, Cheryl and Jim Demarais of Middletown, and Maryanne and Jim Bloodgood of Brick Township; and five grandchildren. Interment
was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
DENIS RAFAEL, 86, of Hazlet died July 10 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Portugal, he resided in Union Beach prior to moving to Hazlet. He was a retired metal tapper. He was predeceased by his wife, Maria Rafael, in 1992. He is survived by his grandson, Armando Vegas of Maryland. Interment
was at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, Union.
PHILIP C. CHERRY, 85, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and formerly Matawan, died July 5 at West Palm Beach. Born in Larchmont, N.Y., he resided in Point Pleasant, and Matawan for 50 years before moving to West Palm Beach. Mr. Cherry was employed at the Ford Motor Co. for more than 35 years, and co-owned Cherry Travel Agency, Matawan, with his wife. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was an active charter member of the Lions Club. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; and a brother, Joseph Cherry. Mr. Cherry is survived by his children, Dorothy Juska, Judith Holland, Philip Cherry Jr., Irene Gallagher, Sally Keating, Jeanne Cherry Cobo, Mary Decker, Christine Hommel and William Cherry; three sisters, Alice Heimbold, Virginia Caverly and Sally Hall; two brothers, Tom and Jim Cherry; 27 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Burial was at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.
RONALD F. FISLER, 33, of Keyport died July 7 at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Middletown before moving to Keyport six years ago. Mr. Fisler was a maintenance worker at the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Hazlet, for the past three years. He was a communicant of Jesus the Lord Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, where he also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Troop Leader for Boy Scout Troop No. 364, Keyport, and coached Keyport Pop Warner football. Mr. Fisler was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Gormley Fisler, in 1999; and a brother, Joseph Fisler, in 2001. He is survived by his wife, Jill Welch Fisler; three sons, Christopher, Jonathan and Nicholas, all at home; his father, Frank Fisler of Middletown; a brother, Frank Fisler Jr. of Laurence Harbor; and a sister, Cindy Fisler of Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Jesus the Lord Church, followed by interment at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown.
HENRY LOUIS RUHMAN SR., 66, of Keansburg died July 7 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Red Bank, he was a lifelong resident of the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen. Mr. Ruhman was a maintenance electrician at Lily Tulip, Holmdel, at RCA, Fort Monmouth, and Union Local No. 516, Red Bank, retiring in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. He was a founding member of the Police Emergency Rescue Unit (PERU), Middletown, and a member of Keansburg Fire Company No. 1. He also was a member of Middletown Elks Lodge No. 2179. He enjoyed time with his family, and fishing with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Branson, in 2000. Mr. Ruhman is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen E. Thorne Ruhman; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Frederick and Veronica Ruhman of Keansburg, Henry L. and Debra Ruhman Jr. of Middletown, Gary Ruhman of Keansburg, and William and Beverly Ruhman of Spotswood; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Michael Goggins of Atlantic Highlands, Kathleen and John Steakin, and Susan and James Kenneally, all of Keansburg, and Deanna and Donald Anderson of Middletown; and 13 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
