ROBERT L. BATZLE, 55, of Middletown died July 4 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Illinois, he resided in Toms River prior to moving to Middletown 13 years ago. Mr. Batzle was a carpenter at Two Brothers Inc., Hazlet, the past six years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was predeceased by a sister, Maggie Jouas. He is survived by his fiancée, Robyn VanPelt of Middletown; a son, David Batzle of Silverton; three daughters, Nykki Mobus of Barnegat, and Jessica Batzle and Kimberly VanPelt, both of Middletown; three sisters, Sharyn Kubiak of Auburn, Calif., Carolyn Itchmoney of Imlaystown, and Helen Thalhiemere of Windsor, Pa.; and two grandchildren. JOSEPHINE VITELLO ROTONDO, 91, of Hazlet died June 22 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Nutley, she resided in Bricktown before moving to Hazlet three years ago. Mrs. Rotondo was a billing clerk at Optic Case, Newark, for 15 years, retiring in 1960. She was also a former seamstress. She was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, and a former communicant of Our Lady of Visitation Church, Bricktown, where she was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Bricktown First Aid Ladies Auxiliary, and an active member of the fund-raising committee for Deborah Hospital. Mrs. Rotondo is survived by her husband of 69 years, Daniel A. Rotondo; two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick G. and Patricia Rotondo, and Daniel J. and Sally Rotondo, all of Hazlet; a brother, Jerry Vitello of East Hanover; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place on June 25 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be held June 26 at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 9:15 a.m. at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. MATTHEW J. DAVIS, 73, of Melbourne, Fla., died June 12 at home. Born in New York City, he resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., prior to moving to Florida in 1987. He was a retired steel worker for Local 20, New York City. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Davis; and two daughters, Mary Davis-O’Neill and Rose Mary Davis. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Davis-Libis of Holmdel; two sons, Brian Gerard Davis of Alabama, and Matthew Davis of the Leonardo section of Middletown; three sisters, Rose Marie Foley, Elizabeth Connell and Anne Ventura; two brothers, Edward Davis and Thomas Davis; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment
was at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.
JOAN A. BROCK, 74, of Silvermead, Freehold Township, died June 14 at home. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Bayonne before moving to Silvermead 18 years ago. Mrs. Brock was employed for many years in the deli department at the Two Guys store in Jersey City. She was active in the Silvermead Community Club and was a member of the CentraState Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. Mrs. Brock is survived by her husband, Francis T. Brock; two sons, Francis Brock of Hazlet and Thomas Brock of Long Branch; three daughters, Joyce Urban of Wayne, Deborah McDonough Kisielewski and Patricia Anderson, both of Bayonne; five sisters, Viola Palangio of Brick, Anna Corrado of Spotswood, Dorothy Lyons of Manchester, Elizabeth White of Seminole, Fla., and Beatrice McConnell of East Brunswick; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by entombment at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel. JEANETTE F. FARRELL AMERY, 95, of Holmdel died June 16 at The Willows, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there prior to moving to Holmdel three years ago. She was a teacher for the New York City Board of Education for 55 years, retiring in 1983. She was a former parishioner at Holy Name of Jesus, Brooklyn, N.Y. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Amery Jr., in 1986; a son, Theodore G. Amery III, in 1998; and her brother, John J. Farrell, in 1979. She is survived by her son, Sean Amery of Holmdel; her sister, Elizabeth F. Buckley of Brooklyn; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Interment
was at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson.
BEATRICE L. KOEHLER-KEELER HOLLENBACK, 82, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Hazlet died June 17 at home. Born in Avoca, Pa., she resided in Orange prior to moving to Cliffwood Beach in 1949. She was a waitress at Triangle Diner, Perth Amboy, and Shore Point Inn, Hazlet, for 35 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Aberdeen Senior Citizens. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Hollenback, in 1993; a daughter, Janet Anderson-Cameron, in 1994; two sisters, Viola Keeler and Florence Keeler; and a brother, Donny Keeler. She is survived by two sons, Harold Hollenback of Tampa, Fla., and LeRoy Hollenback of Cliffwood Beach; two daughters, Ellen McKenna of Cliffwood Beach, and Carol Smith of Montgomery, Pa.; two brothers, William Keeler and Thomas Keeler; four sisters, Shirley Ingara, Jackie Keeler, Edith Keeler-Scalzo and Judy LaPoint; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Interment was at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, Union.
JACQUELINE ROSE COLLINS of Hazlet died June 21 at Hackensack Medical Center following a long battle with cancer. Born in France, she resided in Union City prior to moving to Hazlet 35 years ago. She was office manager and secretary at Dr. Krishnan Gopal Oncology and Hematology, Holmdel, for 12 years. She is survived by her husband, William J. Collins of Hazlet; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary J. and Danielle Collins, Christopher W. Collins, and David J. Collins, all of Hazlet; her mother, Helene Micheletto of Manchester; two sisters, Myriam Condello of Tinton Falls, and Marsele Ramiez of Hasbrouck Heights; a brother, Michel Seidenari of Florida; and one granddaughter. JOSEPH G. AMECANGELO, 58, of Tinton Falls died June 7 at Hahnemann Medical Center, Philadelphia, after complications following a kidney transplant. He was born and raised in Red Bank. Mr. Amecangelo was the owner of Charter One Leasing, Red Bank. Prior to that, he was vice president at W&J Sloan Furniture Co., Red Bank. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. His activities included golf, reading and music, and he performed with several local bands throughout New Jersey. He was predeceased by his father, Chris L. Amecangelo, in 1997. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Angela M. Amecangelo of Tinton Falls; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Karen Amecangelo of Middletown; two daughters, Krista Amecangelo and Leigh-Anne Amecangelo, both Red Bank; his mother, Ida Amecangelo of Red Bank; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Alan Zaleski of Middletown; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church.
JAMES J. BONNER, 84, of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, died June 8 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Edison prior to moving to West Keansburg 15 years ago. He was a process operator at Exxon, Bayonne, for 22 years, retiring 30 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, and member of the Holy Name Society at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary "Mae" Gillen in 1983. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Dawson of Middletown, and Peggy Tivald Dauber of Edison; five sons, James Bonner Jr. of Lynchburg, Va.; Lawrence Bonner of Hazlet; Eugene Bonner of Cecil, Pa.; and Kenneth Bonner and Michael Bonner, both of Edison; and 19 grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Burial was at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia.
RICHARD DECKERT APPLEGATE, 81, of Keyport died June 13 at home. Born in Keyport, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Applegate was a Linotype operator at Albert Cowling Printing, Union Beach, the Bayshore News, and Keyport Weekly, Keyport, before his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Poling Applegate of Keyport; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Patricia Applegate; a granddaughter; and three great-grandsons. Visitation will be held April 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service is scheduled for June 19 at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
