Sam P. Siciliano
Mr. Siciliano, 89, of Shrewsbury, died Jan. 31 at home. Born in Neptune, he was a lifelong resident of the Monmouth County area. Before his retirement, Mr. Siciliano was a columnist for the Daily Racing Form and New Jersey Thoroughbred magazine. He compiled and edited “A Century of the Triple Crown” in 1999 and several books on the Preakness Stakes from 1973-84. Prior to that, he was publicist of the Preakness Stakes, held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Mr. Siciliano began his career as a sports writer and editor at the Asbury Park Evening Press in 1939 and held reporting and editorial positions with several newspapers. He was the recipient of the Blood-Horse Magazine Award. He served with the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer and was a war correspondent during World War II, covering the invasion of Okinawa in the Pacific theater. He was a former president of the New Jersey Sports Writers Association. He was a Republican Party County Committeeman in Shrewsbury and a past chairman of the Shrewsbury Shade Tree Commission. Mr. Siciliano is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shrewsbury Mayor Emilia M. Siciliano; two daughters, Carol Ann Siciliano of Falls Church, Va., and Dianne Crilly of Shrewsbury; two brothers, Dr. Eugene J. Siciliano of West Deal and Dr. Joseph F. Siciliano of Interlaken; four sisters, Angela V. Siciliano of Woodside, N.Y., Ann P. Siciliano of Wilmette, Ill., and Frances Foster and Mary Juliano, both of Ocean Township; and five grandchildren. Michael P. Lisowsky
Mr. Lisowsky, 90, of Shrewsbury, died Feb. 9 in Red Bank. He had been a resident of Shrewsbury for the past 42 years. He was employed at United Supply Co., Shrewsbury, for 35 years. Mr. Lisowsky served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a 56-year communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was the former fire chief at Northside Fire Company No. 4, Tinton Falls; member of the American Legion; and a former member of the board for the Boy Scouts at St. James School, Red Bank. He also worked on the Shrewsbury Election Board. Mr. Lisowsky is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Redmond Lisowsky; six sons, Michael P. Lisowsky III of Santee, Calif., Frank J. Lisowsky of Shrewsbury, Robert Lisowsky of Brick, James M. Lisowsky of Texas, William Lisowsky of Cadiz, Ky., and Richard Lisowsky of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Marjorie O’Brien of Austin and Mary Anne Hirsch of Lititz, Pa.; two brothers, Thomas Lisowsky of Florida and Herbert Lisowsky of Denver; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Brian David Boyer
Mr. Boyer, 48, of Rumson, died Feb. 12 at home. He was a lifelong resident of Rumson. He was employed at Risco Inc., Atlantic Highlands. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1978-81. He was 27-year member of Rumson Fire Company, was second lieutenant to the Relief Association of the company, and was secretary of the exempt association of the Rumson Fire Department. He also played baseball for the department, and was a former member of Rumson First Aid Squad. He was predeceased by his father, Gilbert W. Boyer Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Victoria and Kathleen Boyer; a son, Liam Walter Boyer; his mother, Catherine Pomphrey Boyer; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carol Boyer; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Todd Roser; a niece; and two nephews, all of Rumson. Dorothy V. Wilburn
Mrs. Wilburn, 94, of the Shadow Lake section of Red Bank, died Feb. 20 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in New York City, she resided in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Red Bank 25 years ago. Mrs. Wilburn was a banker at Chase Manhattan, New York City, for 15 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Shadow Lake Village Bridge, Socializers and Culture Vultures clubs. She was also a member of the Richmond Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Staten Island. Mrs. Wilburn was predeceased by her husband, Henry Arthur Wilburn, in 1994. She is survived by a son, Richard Wilburn of New York City. A memorial service will be held Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Reformed Church of Tinton Falls. The Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, is in charge of arrangements. Adelaide Elizabeth Krasa Brown
Mrs. Brown, of Red Bank, died Feb. 13 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She resided in Elizabeth, Roselle and Freehold, prior to moving to Red Bank. She was assistant to the registrar of records at Kean University, Union, for 18 years, retiring in 1987. She also chaired the Wilkins Lecture Committee at the university 18 years. Prior to that, she was employed at Merck and Company 10 years. She was a member of the Nurses Aide Corps of the American Red Cross during World War II. She was a communicant of and member of the Apostle Rosary Society at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was an officer in the Shadow Lake Republican Club, and a volunteer at the office of Sen. Joseph Kyrillos. She enjoyed oil painting, and was a certified graphoanalyst. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Brown in 1988. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Dr. Valerie Brown of Red Bank, and Arlene “Reni” Brown-Roscelli and Richard Roscelli of Roselle Park, and Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Alberta Bretz of Tinton Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Louis Gulfo
Mr. Gulfo, 84, of Red Bank, died Feb. 27 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He had been a resident of Red Bank for the past 51 years. Mr. Gulfo was an insurance executive at American Risk Management, Fort Lee, for several years, retiring in 1987. He was also the owner and captain of two boats based in Brielle. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and was an officer in the Navy ROTC. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Mr. Gulfo is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Holmes Gulfo; a son, Richard L. Gulfo of Freehold; a daughter, Lynn E. Sullivan of Fairport, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. Florence Winnifred McCartney
Mrs. McCartney, 88, of Red Bank, died Feb. 14 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Lincroft section of Middletown. Born in East Pittsburgh, Pa., she resided in Chester and Norwood, Pa., Tinton Falls, and Barnegat Light, prior to moving to Red Bank in 2000. She was a retired admitting supervisor at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, from 1969-79. Prior to that, she was employed at Sun Oil Refinery, Philadelphia, during the early 1940s. She served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist’s Mate 3rd Class in Charleston, S.C. She was a longtime member of The United Methodist Church of Red Bank. She was a Girl Scout leader. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Norman McCartney in 1978; and two sisters, Dorothy Wilson in 1983, and Irene Wilson Burns in 1984. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lianna and Larry Fermi of Red Bank. A memorial service was held at The United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Harland Lamar “Butch” Miller Jr.
Mr. Miller, 83, of Little Silver, died Feb. 15 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Cleveland, he relocated to Monmouth County more than 50 years ago. He was a retired executive at Merchandising Consultants and Volume Inc. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, achieving rank of Captain. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Red Bank. He enjoyed fishing, and fished in the Master’s Invitational Sailfish Tournament, Palm Beach, Fla., several times. He was an avid fan and attended games for the Giants, Yankees and Rangers. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lane “Bay” Miller; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Pauels of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; Robin and Russell Hardt of Newport Beach, Calif.; and Tracey and Walter Schulein of Little Egg Harbor; a son and daughter-in-law, Harland L. and Angela Miller III of Williston, Vt.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Frederick “Fred” I. Louis
Mr. Louis, 79, of Oceanport, died Feb. 19 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Johnstown, Pa., he resided in Middletown before moving to Oceanport. Before his retirement, Mr. Louis was vice president of sales at Clark’s of England, Hanover, Pa. He served with the U.S. Army under Gen. George S. Patton during World War II and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2140, Long Branch. Mr. Louis was predeceased by a son, Andrew Louis, in 1994. He is survived by his wife, Janet A. Louis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary I. and Linda Louis of Keyport, and Greg and Susan Louis of Sayreville; a daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Armand Crupi of Freehold; six grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. Patrick Mark Gilvary
Mr. Gilvary, 61, of Parlin, died Feb. 20 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Long Branch, he resided in Fair Haven 25 years, prior to moving to Parlin five years ago. He was a registered architect and professional planner at Gilvary Associates of Red Bank, since 1971. He enjoyed golf, and was a member of the rules committee of the New Jersey State Golf Association. He also enjoyed poker. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Edna Piper Gilvary; two sons and daughters-in-law, T. Shannon and Kandy Gilvary of Hazlet, and Michael and Christine Gilvary of Los Angeles; a brother, Michael Gilvary of South Carolina; a sister, Kathleen Gilvary of Monmouth Beach; a sister-in-law, Theresa Gilvary of Ocean; and three grandchildren.
