HELEN THERESE STRETTON, 85, of the Lincroft section of Middletown died April 8 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Red Bank. She was born In the Bronx, N.Y. Mrs. Stretton was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft, where she was a member of St. Ann’s Guild. She was predeceased by her first husband, David Mudge; her second husband, Thomas Stretton, in 1958; and a grandson, Gerard McMenamy, in 1997. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward W. "Bill" and Rosemarie Mudge of Middletown, and James and Debra Stretton of Keansburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Gerard McMenamy; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment in Holmdel Cemetery. HAL "BLACKIE" ASHMORE, 57, of Middletown died April 19 at home. Born in Jesup, Ga., he resided in Hazlet for 24 years, prior to moving to Middletown four years ago. He held several positions at and was chairman of the executive board at Local Union (L.U.) No. 358, a member of the executive board of L.U. No 456, and safety director for Local Nos. 456 and 351, I.B.E.W.L.U., New Brunswick, for 35 years. He served with the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 0324, Metuchen, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 15031. He enjoyed time with his family and was an avid sportsman, whose activities included fishing, golf and travel. He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin Ashmore, and Betty Fulton. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Ann Scabet Ashmore of Middletown; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Barry Yaegar of Hazlet; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Stacy Ashmore of Keyport, and Thomas and Melissa Ashmore of Matawan; his mother-in-law, Mary Scabet of Keansburg; his brother, Steven Ashmore of North Carolina; his sister and brother-in-law, Roseanne and Michael Ruggiero of Caldwell; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
MARIE E. GAYNOR QUAGLIA, 86, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died April 19 at home. Born in New Hope, Pa., she resided in Lambertville, Pa., and Jersey City, prior to moving to Middletown in 1957. She and her late husband owned and operated Murphy’s Tavern, North Middletown, and Keller’s Liquors, Union Beach, for several years. She also worked at American Can Company for a short period. She was a communicant of, and member of the Altar Rosary Society and Blue Army at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse Quaglia in 1982, and a son, Anthony Quaglia in 1994. She is survived by two sons, Michael Quaglia Sr. of Holmdel, and Frank Quaglia of Keansburg; her daughter Irene LaViola of the Locust section of Middletown; her brother, Frank Gaynor of Bogota; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. VICTOR E. ROSA, 97, of Hazlet died April 19 at Brighton Gardens Extended Care Facility, Middletown. Born in Long Island, N.Y., he resided in Lakewood, and Lake Worth, Fla., prior to moving to Hazlet in 2001. He was an installer and supervisor for NY Telephone, New York City, for 40 years, retiring in 1963. He was a member of the Northwood Lodge No. 303 F & AM, West Palm Beach, Fla. He was predeceased by his wife, Ida Rosa in 1998; his son, Victor Rosa III in 2000; and his daughter, Joan Ashley in 1987. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Victoria Rosa of Hazlet; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Keyport.
SABBY R. ADARIO TYSKA, 81, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen died April 19 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in South Amboy, she resided in the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen prior to moving to Cliffwood Beach 46 years ago. She was a seamstress at Marie Mio, Keyport, for 40 years, retiring in 1980. She was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Tyska in 2001. She is survived by her son, Richard Tyska of Randolph; her daughter, Carol Rimar of Cliffwood; four sisters, Frances DeNardo, Mary Wallace, Yola Caracciolo and Annie Zduniak; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment
was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
LOUIS DiCHIARA, 84, of Middletown died April 20 at the Holmdel Convalescent Center. Born in Spring Valley, N.Y., he resided in Kerhonkson and Brooklyn, N.Y., prior to moving to Middletown two years ago. He was a longshoreman at Grand Columbiana Pier No. 3, Brooklyn, for 45 years, retiring in 1981. He served with the U.S. Navy on a minesweeper in the European Theatre during World War II. He was a member of the BPOE Elks, Kerhonkson, N.Y. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Anita Solis DiChiara of Middletown; two daughters, Anita Russo of Middletown, and Susan Hartmann of the Belford section of Middletown; his brother, Salvatore DiChiara of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. Burial was at Palentown Cemetery, Accord, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to Meridian Hospice, 615 Hope Road, Eatontown 07724.
HELENE GRETCHEN MASCALI BJORK, 87, of Middletown died April 21 at home. Born in New York City, she resided in Middletown most of her life. She was a homemaker, and was devoted to her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, John Bjork in 1972; and a son, Gary A. Schuch in 1997. She is survived by her sister, Edythe Farrell of Middletown; her daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and John Villanti of Middletown; three grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Entombment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
DENNIS J. DeSANTIS, 51, of Aberdeen died April 21 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Red Bank, he resided there until moving to Aberdeen 17 years ago. He was a sales associate at Home Depot, Old Bridge, for the past eight years. He was a communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas DeSantis and Rose Lombanido DeSantis. He is survived by his wife, Harriet Stoia DeSantis of Aberdeen; and his daughter, Nicole DeSantis, at home. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Entombment was at Holmdel Mausoleum.
ANN DAVIS TYNER, 87, of Middletown died April 21 at Beachview Extended Care Facility, Keansburg. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Middletown the past 38 years. She was a secretary at U.T.P. Corporation, Secaucus, for 15 years, retiring in 1980. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Raymond Tyner in 1964. She is survived by her son, Raymond Tyner of Middletown; her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Phil Cannon of Middletown; her sister, Theresa Matros of Hasbrouck Heights; two brothers, William Davis of Toms River, and Richard Davis of Keansburg; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. Burial was at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
JOSEPH P. GRECO, 76, of Aberdeen died April 23 at Deborah Hospital, Browns Mills. Born in Harrison, he resided in West Orange and Manasquan prior to moving to Aberdeen 40 years ago. He owned and operated the law office of Joseph P. Greco, Woodbridge, for 50 years, retiring in 1996. During his career, he was inducted into the U.S. Supreme Court in 1992. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of and member of the Holy Name Society, usher and bereavement minister at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. The Holy Name Society also named him Man of the Year in 2000. He was a charter member of the Aberdeen Rescue First Aid Squad, an honorary fireman for the Iselin Fire Company, a member and Past Grand Night of the Matawan and Woodbridge Knights of Columbus, a charter member of the Woodbridge Elks Lodge, an active member of the New Jersey Right to Life Organization, and a Rotarian with the Woodbridge Rotary Club. He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Alice Greco in 1996. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cameron P. and Dino Castronova, Alice S. and Christopher Kurtanick, all of Manasquan, and Joy A. Greco of Aberdeen; six brothers, the Rev. Evan Greco of Narrowsburg, N.Y.; the Rev. Robert Greco of Middletown, N.Y.; Loren Greco of Johnsonburg; John Greco of Sea Girt; the Rev. Raymond Greco of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Richard K. Greco of Belleville; five sisters, Angela McCluskey of Cedar Grove; Genevieve Morgan of Augusta, Martha Shadwell of Kinnelon, Alberta Greco of West Orange, and Mary Ann Scharf of Butler; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Interment
