ROSE SCALORA BALDASSANO of Spotswood died April 17 in Old Bridge Manor. Her husband, Paul Baldassano Sr., died in 1991, and a son, Salvatore Baldassano, died in 1986. Surviving are two sons, Matthew Baldassano of Middletown and Paul Baldassano Jr. of Monroe; a brother, John Chellio of Georgetown, Texas; three sisters, Antoinette of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary of Bath, N.Y., and Grace of Syracuse, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Interment
was in Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y.
GERTRUDE V. PELHAM MITCHELL, 91, of Old Bridge died April 16 at home. Her husband, Frank P. Mitchell, died in 1987. Surviving are three sons, Paul Mitchell of Glencoe, Ill., Thomas Mitchell of Holmdel and Peter Mitchell of Staten Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Catherine’s Church, Holmdel. Interment

CLYDE I. ARRINGTON, 78, of Matawan, died May 10 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Virginia, he resided in Staten Island, N.Y., prior to moving to Matawan 46 years ago. He was a retired drywall contractor at Louis and John Drywall for 40 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Concetta Arrington in 1992. He is survived by his son, Robert Arrington of Matawan; his daughter Deborah Chadwick of Matawan; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be May 14 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered May 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
CHARLES T. CLEARY, 67, of Matawan died May 8 at home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Matawan the past 40 years. He was employed at Westinghouse for 22 years, and Bell Labs/Bellcore/Telcordia Technologies for 25 years. He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Forrestal, and is a member of the USS Forrestal Association. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. He was also a Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and member of the Pre Cana, marriage encounter, and Haiti committee. He was a lifetime member of Telcordia Chapter 99 of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and an original Matawan Jaycee. He was also listed in Who’s Who in American Young Men in 1971. He was predeceased by two brothers, Douglas Cleary and Dennis Cleary. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Margaret O’Sullivan Cleary of Matawan; three daughters, Patrice M. Cleary of Matawan, Donna Carroll Cleary of Matawan, and Tammy Kozmenski Cleary of Monrovia, Md.; two sons, Charles Stephen Cleary of Matawan, and Christopher George Cleary of Monrovia, Md.; his brother, Ronald Cleary of Hazlet; four sisters, Lois McGrath of Florida, Norine Roberts of California, Ellen Bennett of Virginia, and Kathy Sparks of Pennsylvania; and six grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be May 14 from 3-7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. DANIEL J. DELANEY, 75, of Middletown died May 10 at home. Born in Kearny, he resided in Newark prior to moving to Middletown 46 years ago. Mr. Delaney was a plant manager at DuPont Corp., Linden, for 29 years, retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and American Legion Post 338, Leonardo section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Ruth Dowling Delaney in 1996; a son, John Delaney, in 1959; a sister, Patricia Delaney, in 1992; and a brother, Joseph Delaney, in 2002. He is survived by two sons, Michael D. Delaney of Toms River, and James M. Delaney of Robbinsville; three daughters, Joanne Vasios of Warren, Janet Bast of Mullica Hill, and Elizabeth Tice of Ocean Grove; a sister, Helen Rahl of Brick; and 10 grandchildren. ELLEN C. ENGLISH, 78, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died May 10 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in Keyport before moving to Cliffwood Beach 16 years ago. Mrs. English was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was an avid bingo player and competitor. She was predeceased by her husband, James R. English, in 2002, and a son, William English, in 1978. She is survived by five sons, Thomas English of Cliffwood Beach; James English, Michael English and Jonathan English, all Keyport; and Dennis English of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Mary Ellen Aull of Matawan, Debbie Haviland of Keansburg, and Helen Hanrahan of Key Largo, Fla.; four brothers, James Robertson of Belmar, Thomas Robertson of Neptune City, George Robertson of Kearny, and Francis Robertson of Massachusetts; a sister, Dorothy Bailey of Kearny; and nine grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered May 14 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment

MARGARET EGAN McCUE, 89, of Hazlet died May 24 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Rumson, she was a lifelong resident prior to moving to Hazlet eight years ago. Mrs. McCue was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred McCue, in 1982. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Nora and Artie Connaughton of Matawan, and Mary McCue of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Richard McCue of Atlantic Highlands and Thomas McCue of West Long Branch; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held May 29 from 9-10 a.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Interment
will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
MELVIN H. NEWELL, 86, of Middletown died May 26 at home. Born in Newark, he resided in South Orange before moving to Middletown in 1957. Mr. Newell was a security guard at Foodtown, Port Monmouth section of Middletown, for nine years before his retirement. Prior to that, he was a packer at Wagner Electric, Newark, for 30 years, retiring in 1973. He served with the U.S. Amy during World War II. He was a past member of Bayshore Community Church, Middletown. He was a member of the Middletown Senior Center, and its choir. Mr. Newell was predeceased by his wife, Viola Newell, in 1995; and a brother, Robert Newell. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ronald Shann of the Belford section of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Adele Newell Jr. of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Robert and Caroline Newell of Belford; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Myrtle and Kenneth Hovmiller of Hobesound, Fla., and Helen Newell of Forked River; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be May 31 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with a funeral service at 7:30 p.m.
ADELE C. KILDUFF, 74, of Middletown died May 15 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Rockville Centre, N.Y., and the Locust section of Middletown prior to moving to Middletown 11 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was a member of the Middletown Women’s Club and a volunteer for Mobile Meals. She enjoyed time with her family, bocce, golf, travel, the beach, fishing and entertaining for family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John "Jack" Kilduff Sr. of Middletown; three sons and daughters-in-law, John E. and Roberta Kilduff Jr., and Daniel W. and Mary Ann Kilduff, all of Middletown, and Thomas J. and Margaret Kilduff of Freehold; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. EVELYN WILSON of Freehold Township died March 29 at Avante at Red Bank Care Center, Red Bank. Born in Linden, she lived in Matawan before moving to Freehold 37 years ago. She is survived by her husband, Charles, of Freehold Township; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Kelly Wilson of New Milford, Conn.; two sisters, Dorothy Hultfeldt of Springhill, Fla., and Mary Ann Taylor of New Jersey. Entombment was at Atlantic View Cemetery, Brielle.
