Leonard Nicholas Mielcarek
Mr. Mielcarek, 76, of Red Bank, died March 9 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he resided in Middletown before moving to Red Bank 10 years ago. He also wintered in Hernando, Fla. Mr. Mielcarek was a fireman for the New York City Fire Department for 20 years, retiring in 1979. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Mielcarek was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a former member of the Red Bank Elks, and a member of the Uniform Firefighters Association, and the Irish Club, Hernando, Fla. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Mielcarek. Mr. Mielcarek is survived by his wife of 44 years, Catherine Kerr Mielcarek; a son, Leonard J. Mielcarek of Rahway; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Scott Bestreski of Toms River; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial
was celebrated at St. James Church, followed by entombment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
Sofia V. Holm
Mrs. Holm, 92, of Asbury Park, died March 19 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born and raised in Ecorse, Mich., she resided in Rumson, prior to moving to Asbury Park 21 years ago. She was employed at International Flavors and Fragrances, Union Beach, for 25 years, retiring in 1984. Prior to that, she was a secretary at Ford Motor Company, Detroit. She was a member of Presbyterian Church on the Hill, Ocean Township. She was an accomplished pianist. She was predeceased by her husband, Olaf Holm in 1956. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Robert Austin of Rumson; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Belinda Holm of Tujunga, Calif.; a sister and brother-in-law, Olga and Calvin Cole of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Bess Warner; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Robert Harold Otten
Mr. Otten, 73, of Little Silver, died March 20 at home following a lengthy illness. Born in the Belford section of Middletown, he resided in Shrewsbury before moving to Little Silver two years ago. Before his retirement, Mr. Otten was an attorney with the law firm of Crowell and Otten from 1966 to 2000. Prior to that, he was employed at the firm of Doremus, Russell, Fasano and Nicosia. He served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was a third-generation member of Red Bank United Methodist Church. He served two terms on the Supreme Court of New Jersey District Ethics Committee for Monmouth County, District IX. Mr. Otten is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Dale Barber Otten; a son, Gregory Robert Otten of Lexington, N.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Otten Daniel and T. David Daniel of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; and a granddaughter. A memorial service was held at United Methodist Church. Peter V. DeFilippo
Mr. DeFilippo, 86, of Middletown, died March 26 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in South Amboy, he was a lifelong resident of the Middletown and Red Bank area. Before his retirement, Mr. DeFilippo was a track foreman for Central Jersey Railroad, later Conrail, Red Bank. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. He was predeceased by his wife, Vera DeFilippo, in 1991. He is survived by a daughter, Antoinette Brown of Bowling Green, Ohio; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Anthony J. DeFilippo of Bowling Green, and Charles F. and Kathy DeFilippo of Middletown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Colette DeFilippo of Florida, and Chris and Anne DeFilippo of Middletown; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Rose Marass of Rumson, Lucy Dyal of Florida, and Josephine and Ozzie Green of the Wickatunk section of Marlboro; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Karen Jungerman
Mrs. Jungerman, 71, of Red Bank, died April 13 at home. Born in Perth Amboy, she resided in Fair Haven 20 years, prior to moving to Red Bank four years ago. She was employed at Casual Corner, Eatontown, retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She and her husband volunteered in 1995 with Mercy Volunteer Corps working with American Indian school in Santa Fe, and in Baltimore, and San Diego. She was predeceased by a son, Stewart Schneider in 1980; and a brother, Harry Tappen. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Bill; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Patricia Schneider of Gladstone; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kim and Joseph Conley of Fair Haven, and Julie Jungerman of Tampa; and three grandchildren. A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at St. Anthony's Church. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Matthew Taylor Loughlin Jr.
Mr. Loughlin, 81, of Leesburg, Fla., died June 22 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He had previously resided in Jersey City. Prior to retiring in 1974, he was a firefighter for the Jersey City Fire Department for 23 1/2 years. A decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Loughlin served with Company B, 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division, and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal for valor displayed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. He was a communicant of St. Paul's R.C. Church, Leesburg, and a member of the Leesburg Elks. He was predeceased by his first wife, Muriel, and his second wife, Anne, as well as a brother, Thomas Loughlin. Surviving are two sons, John Loughlin of Jersey City and Richard Loughlin of Little Silver; three daughters, Joan Leenig of Ridgewood, Lorraine Leenig of Belmar and Donna Bruno of Colts Neck; a sister, Jean Corsetti of Rockville Center, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass was celebrated at St. James R.C. Church, Red Bank, with the Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, in charge of arrangements.
Mary E. Walker
Mrs. Walker, 59, of Freehold, died June 30 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Franklinton, N.C., she had lived in Howell before moving to Freehold 29 years ago. Mrs. Walker was a human services technician at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, Trenton, before her retirement in 2000. She began her career at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital, Marlboro, in 1965, and was employed there until the hospital's closing. She had attended Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Red Bank chapter. Surviving are her husband, Robert Walker; three daughters, Laverne Robinson and Ivy Walker, both of Freehold, and Arlene Holloway of Howell; two brothers, Leroy Clax of Freehold and Ulysses Clax of Long Branch; and two grandchildren. The viewing and funeral services were held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold. Interment
took place at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan. Arrangements were under the direction of the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.
William Daley
Mr. Daley, 80, of Freehold Township, died June 25 at Atlantic Coast Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Lakewood. Born in Long Branch, he was raised in Freehold and had lived in Howell for 50 years before moving back to Freehold three years ago. Prior to retiring in 1979, he was a milkman for Pleasant Plains Dairy, which was located in Ocean County. He then worked for Level Line in Lakewood. Mr. Daley was a life member and former chief of the Southard Fire Company, Howell, as well as a former member and past master of the Southard Grange. He was active in the Howell Little League for more than 30 years. He also bowled in a league. He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Joyce Daley; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy J. Daley of Freehold Township, William C. and Elaine Daley of Tinton Falls, and Patrick H. Daley of Brick; two sisters, Rena Domanski of Freehold and Rosiland Kennedy of Freehold Township; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Adelphia Cemetery, Howell.
Geraldine Hunter
Mrs. Hunter, 61, of Highlands, died Dec. 10, 2006, at home. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Rumson prior to moving to Highlands 10 years ago. She was an administrative assistant at Mike Monroe Architecture, Red Bank. Prior to that, she was a zoning officer for the Borough of Rumson. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander “Sandy” Hunter. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Hunter of Highlands; a son, A.J. Hunter of Avon; a brother, Paul Dorgan of Cherry Hill; a sister, Dorothy Grabowski of Wall; a sister-in-law, Mary Hunter of Rumson; and two grandchildren. Burial

Nancy Bordley Hall
Mrs. Hall, 68, of Shrewsbury, died Dec. 4, 2006, at Renaissance Gardens at Seabrook, Tinton Falls. Born in Baltimore, Md., she resided in Little Silver for 41 years, prior to moving to Shrewsbury five years ago. She was a reiki master and t’ai chi chih instructor. She was a member, lay reader, lay Eucharistic minister, and vestry member at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Little Silver. She also attended Christ Church, St. Michael’s, Md., where she owned a vacation home with her husband. She was an associate of the Community of St. John Baptist, Mendham. She was a personnel secretary and recreation manager for The ARC of Monmouth, Tinton Falls, for 18 years, retiring in 1996. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Milton S. Hall Jr.; a son, Stuart L. Hall of Tinton Falls; a daughter, Diana B. Hall of Elkridge, Md.; and a brother, John L. Bordley Jr. of Sewanee, Tenn. A memorial service will be Dec. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Church. Arrangements are by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Henry J. Haines
Mr. Haines, 74, of Shrewsbury, died Dec. 1, 2006, at home. He was born in Jersey City. He was a yard master at Conrail, Jersey City, for 43 years, retiring in 1995. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a 25-year member and trustee of Shrewsbury Hose Company No. 1, and “Fireman of the Year” in 1998. He was also a lifetime member of Jersey City’s God’s Only Nice Guys volunteer fire company that responded to second alarm calls with coffee and food for fellow firemen. He was predeceased by five sisters, Naomi, Alberta, Monica, Mary and Connie. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Lisa; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Tom Walker, Kelly and John Schleig, Cathy and Tom Lynch, Joan and Perry Fahoury; Barbara Sullivan; and Terry and John Lytle; two brothers and one sister-in-law, John and Ann Haines, and Leo Haines; two sisters, Florence “Flo” Langan and Patricia “Patty” Tracy; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
