SALVATORE J. SCHITO, 91, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Jan. 11 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Giglio, Italy, he resided in Newark and East Orange before moving to Belford eight years ago. Mr. Schito was the owner and operator of Schito Sanitation, Nanuet, N.Y., for 15 years, retiring in 1970. He was predeceased by his wife, Lee Schito, in 1994. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Catherine Schito of Bushkill, Pa.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marianne and Dennis Larzik, and Sallee Schito, all of Belford; three sisters, Yolanda Marangi of Hazlet, Henrietta Jasa of Union, and Ida Merlucci of Hazlet; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. Entombment was at Hollywood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Union.
FRED GALLETTO, 68, of Hazlet died Jan. 8 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Newark, he resided there before moving to Hazlet 24 years ago. He was a self-employed contractor at Fred and Son Contractors, Hazlet, retiring in 1997. He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank Galletto and Carmella DeSiderio-Galletto. He is survived by his wife, Antoinette Coizza Galletto of Hazlet; his son, Fred Galletto Jr. of Hazlet; three daughters, Lauren Galletto of Iselin, Theresa Porowski of Middletown, and Tammy Anne Miranda of Hazlet; five sisters; two brothers; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Interment
was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
ANNE McCALL, 90, of Freehold died Jan. 9 at the John L. Montgomery Nursing Home, Freehold. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she lived in Newark and Matawan before moving to Freehold seven years ago. She was an operator for the Schiffenhaus Brothers Paper Box Co., Newark, for 25 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 1965. Surviving are two sons, Charles of Clark and Ronald of Lambertville; a daughter, Barbara Branco of Matawan; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
JEAN SODANO-HOBBS, 92, of Keyport died Jan. 9 at The Willows, Holmdel. Born in Celso Cilento, Italy, she moved to the United States at age 10 months, and resided in Roselle and Toms River before moving to Keyport 17 years ago. She was a sales clerk at Sears Roebuck and Co., Newark, for 25 years, retiring in 1974. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. She was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Sodano, in 1995. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Dayback of Hazlet, Christina Fitzgerald of Aberdeen, and Virginia Sisko of Linden; three sons, Walter Hobbs of Freehold, Joseph Hobbs of Louisville, Ky., and Mack Hobbs of Jonesboro, Ga.; two sisters, Rose Sodano, and Dora Sodano; her brother, Frank Sodano; 23 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial was offered at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment
was at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge.
JAY C. BUTKOWSKI, 44, of Middletown died Dec. 30 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Allentown, Pa., he resided in Hazlet before moving to Middletown 12 years ago. Mr. Butkowski was a software specialist at IBM, Cranford, for 24 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma Power and Zygmund Butkowski; and a brother, Robert Biolsi. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Christine Cuomo Butkowski; four sons, Jason, Michael, Christopher and Robbie Butkowski, and a daughter, Meggie Butkowski, all at home; three brothers, James Butkowski of the Leonardo section of Middletown, Alex Biolsi of Florida, and Neil Biolsi of New York; a sister, Carolyn Hammer of Holmdel; and one aunt. Burial was at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet.
RICHARD PAUL THOMPSON, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Dec. 30 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Newark, he resided in Union before moving to Port Monmouth 47 years ago. Mr. Thompson was employed at Jaejer Lumber Co., Madison, for 15 years, retiring in 1992. Prior to that, he was a foreman at Dairy Lee, Newark, for 40 years. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bertha Paaz Thompson; a son, Richard Paul Thompson Jr. of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; two daughters, Lynn Halvorsen of Howell and Kathy Klein of the Clarksburg section of Millstone; a brother, Kenneth Thompson of Port Monmouth; two sisters, Violet Sohlgren of Florida and Marge Arnold of South Carolina; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Burial was at Graceland Memorial Park, Kernilworth.
DOUGLAS J. RONK, 44, of North Brunswick died Jan. 5. Born in Kenmore, N.Y., he resided in Bridgewater and North Plainfield before moving to North Brunswick two years ago. He was a data entry clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, Princeton, for the past year. Prior to that, he owned Ronk Software Services, New York City, for 15 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, as well as an Eagle Scout. He is survived by his former wife, Mary Anne McKean Ronk; and their four children, Christopher, Patrick, Meghan and Katie Ronk, all of Raritan Borough; his parents, James and Arvilla McClory Ronk of North Brunswick; two sisters, Carol Lagowski of North Brunswick, and Donna Hyers of the Belford section of Middletown; and three brothers, Richard Ronk and Lawrence Ronk, both North Brunswick, and Edward Ronk of Edison. Visitation will be Jan. 9 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick. A funeral service will be held Jan. 10 at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick. Interment

IRENE J. PREBLICK, 78, of Hazlet died Jan. 2 at home. Born in Irvington, she resided there until moving to Hazlet 41 years ago. Mrs. Preblick was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Preblick, in 1990; a son, Theodore Preblick Jr.; a brother, Frank Stefanski; two sisters, Marie Hanft and Helen Walsh; and a stepson. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Vena of Hazlet; a sister, Florence Bohem of Keyport; a brother, Daniel Stefanski of Tinton Falls; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. MARY G. MAE GASCOIGNA HOLTON, 94, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Jan. 4 at The Center for Hospice Care, Long Branch. Born in Union City, she resided in Plainfield, Toms River and Fanwood before moving to Belford 20 years ago. Mrs. Holton was employed in the soliciting department at Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, for 20 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Middletown, and a member of the Middletown Senior Citizens. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Graham Holton, in 1967. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert S. and Pat Holton Sr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean A. and Donald Young of Belford, and Margaret M. and Joe Arcuri of North Plainfield; and five grandchildren. was at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, Union.
RALPH J. TAGLIAFERRI JR., 77, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Jan. 5 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, he resided there before moving to Cliffwood Beach 40 years ago. Mr. Tagliaferri was a locksmith at Perry Gladstone Locksmith, Jersey City, for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Ingraham in the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Keyport, and a member of the Keyport Seniors. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Tagliaferri; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Patricia and Jack Taft, Rosemary and Paul Geist, Julie and Edward Neville, Maria and Rob Morison, and Donna Conrad; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
