HILDA M. VAN NOTE CARHART, 82, of Long Branch died July 2 at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Long Branch. Born in Neptune, she was a lifelong resident of Long Branch. Mrs. Carhart was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Long Branch. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1985; and a son, Robert Carhart, in 1982. She is survived by four sons, Charles Carhart of Florida, George Carhart and Andrew DeMarc, both of California, and Gene Malleus of Middletown; two daughters, Marielena Mickey of Long Branch and Lorraine Sferlazzo of Arizona; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. BARBARA CATHERINE SCRIVEN, 66, of Sea Bright died June 4 at home after a battle with a glioblastoma. Born in Jersey City, she relocated to Sea Bright in 1985. Mrs. Scriven was an officer for several years at Fyock Motor Lines, Red Bank, where she worked alongside her husband and son. Prior to that, she was a travel consultant at Tiffany Travels, Bayonne. Her activities included time with her family, the beach, reading, and the theater. An avid New York Mets fan, she was present at the team’s first winning World Series game in 1969. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Ann, in 1987; and her father, John Nolan, in 1984. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Thomas Scriven of Sea Bright; her mother, Eleanor Nolan; her children, Thomas, Robert and Marybeth; two daughters-in-law, Mary Kelly and Marguerite; her son-in-law, Joe Vasquez; two sisters, Beverly Fitzgerald and Bernice Becker; a brother, Barry Nolan; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. Interment

GARNER PRUITT SR., 70, of Middletown, died June 4 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City. Born in Homer, Ill., he resided in Rumson prior to moving to Middletown six years ago. He was a landscape gardener at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, Rumson, for 18 years. He served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and member of the Rumson Ramp Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Olivadoti Pruitt in 1982. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Garner and Erika Pruitt Jr. of Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Patrick Leonard of Middletown, Linda A. and Larry Miller of Shark River Hills, and Jane and Gordon Johnsen of the Leonardo section of Middletown; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several siblings. JOSEPH G. AMECANGELO, 58, of Tinton Falls died June 7 at Hahnemann Medical Center, Philadelphia, after complications following a kidney transplant. He was born and raised in Red Bank. Mr. Amecangelo was the owner of Charter One Leasing, Red Bank. Prior to that, he was vice president at W&J Sloan Furniture Co., Red Bank. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. His activities included golf, reading and music, and he performed with several local bands throughout New Jersey. He was predeceased by his father, Chris L. Amecangelo, in 1997. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Angela M. Amecangelo of Tinton Falls; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Karen Amecangelo of Middletown; two daughters, Krista Amecangelo and Leigh-Anne Amecangelo, both Red Bank; his mother, Ida Amecangelo of Red Bank; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Alan Zaleski of Middletown; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church.
IDA COSGROVE SMITH, 91, of Fair Haven died June 7 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she resided in El Paso, Texas, before moving to Fair Haven in 1990. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. She was a volunteer at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, and its Red Bank Auxiliary, and The Arc of Monmouth County, Tinton Falls. She was predeceased by her husband, Maxwell Baldwin Smith Jr., and a brother, John F. Cosgrove. She is survived by a son, Maxwell B. Smith III of Fair Haven and New York City; a daughter, Carol Ann Smith Noonan of Fair Haven; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. CLARINA ‘SHERRY’ PETRAGLIA WEBBER, 89, of Red Bank died April 26 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Atlantic Highlands, she resided in Shrewsbury and the Leonardo section of Middletown before moving to Red Bank in 1961. Mrs. Webber was a manager at Hahne’s Department Store, Eatontown, for several years. Prior to that, she managed her family’s farm and gas station in Leonardo. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, and an active member of Court of St. James Catholic Daughters of America, where she served as president during the ‘60s and ‘70s. Mrs. Webber was active in and served as president of the Republican Women of Red Bank as well as the Monmouth County Federation of Republican Women, where she was a past president and trustee. She was the state representative from Monmouth County for the New Jersey Federation of Republican Women, and was a county Republican Committeewoman for several years. She was active in the PTA at St. James Grammar School, Red Bank, and Red Bank Catholic High School, and was instrumental in developing activities for the Catholic Youth Organization. She and her husband were square dance callers for 30 years, and she was one of the first female callers in the country. The couple also entertained at area senior citizen centers. Mrs. Webber was predeceased by a brother, Angelo "Skip" Petraglia. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Hartwell K. Webber of Red Bank; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Claire W. and Ed Heil of Ridge, N.Y., Jane M. Webber of Bernardsville, and Carol and Frank Williams of Warren, Ohio; her sister, Rose Petraglia of Atlantic Highlands; her sister-in-law, Theresa Petraglia of Atlantic Highlands; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. IRENE OLSEN GOFF, 98, of Red Bank died May 2 at Navesink House, Red Bank. Born in New York City, she resided in Little Silver prior to moving to Red Bank 13 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, W. Edwin Goff in 1973. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara G. Hofford of North Palm Beach, Fla., and Patricia G. DENISE SHARROCK DeVITO, 38, of Rumson died May 4 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City. Born in Bayonne, she lived in Hoboken and Belmar before moving to Rumson 11 years ago. Mrs. DeVito was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. Her memberships included CPC Behavioral Foundation, Middletown, where she was also past president and a current board member of Campership; a board member of Clean Ocean Action, Sandy Hook; and previous board member for the SPCA of Monmouth County, Eatontown. She was predeceased by her father, John Sharrock. Mrs. DeVito is survived by her husband of 15 years, Mark A. DeVito of Rumson; her son, Jake DeVito of Rumson; two daughters, Janie E. DeVito and Jesse M. DeVito, both Rumson; her mother, Carolyn Sharrock of Belmar; her mother-in-law, Barbara DeVito of Colts Neck; her brother-in-law and his wife, Michael and Patti DeVito of Metuchen; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Jackie and Drew Clark of Spring Lake Heights, Nicole Sharrock of Atlantic Highlands, and Aimee Sharrock of Belmar; and a niece and two nephews. ELIZABETH ‘LILY’ McLOUGHLIN HALEY of Middletown died May 5 at home. Born in Dublin, Ireland, she resided in Fair Haven for 30 years prior to moving to Shadow Lake, Middletown, one year ago. She was a medical records supervisor at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank for 16 years, retiring in 1996. She was a communicant, cantor, Eucharistic minister and member of the choir at Church of The Nativity, Fair Haven. She enjoyed sewing, singing, acting and fashion designing. She was predeceased by two sisters, May Smart and Cathy Gallagher; and a brother, Edward McLoughlin. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James Haley of Middletown; her daughter, Bronwyn Haley of Clifton; her brother, James McLoughlin of San Francisco, Calif.; three sisters, Carmel McLoughlin of Middletown, Joan Sweder of Red Bank, and Annie McLoughlin of Dublin, Ireland; and several nieces and nephews. RUSSELL JOHN HOWELL, 61, of Freehold Township died May 1 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Queens Village, N.Y., he lived in Old Bridge before moving to Freehold Township 31 years ago. He was a limousine driver for Stagecoach Limousine, Marlboro. He was a charter member of the Freehold team in the Monmouth County Senior Softball League, where he was a player and coach. He was an umpire in the Freehold Borough Little League and the Freehold Township Little League. He was a private pilot. Surviving are his wife, Edwina Weis Howell; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Dana Howell of Howell; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Joseph Corson of Tinton Falls; a brother, Robert Howell of Florida; and three grandchildren.
