Claire A. “Micki” Hazelet Husar
Mrs. Husar, 64, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died Dec. 7, 2006, at home. Born in Irvington, she resided in Summit prior to moving to Leonardo 33 years ago. She was the cafeteria manager at Red Bank Catholic High School, and St. James Elementary School, Red Bank, for 30 years prior to becoming ill. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Michael A. Husar; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael Husar of Leonardo, William and Sandra Husar of Jim Thorpe, Pa., Edward and Doreen Husar of Tinton Falls, and Daniel and Debora Husar of Leonardo; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and James Wilson of the Navesink section of Middletown; two sisters, Virginia Feldman and Patricia Embree; a brother, George Hazelet; and 12 grandchildren. Stanley Meltzoff
Mr. Meltzoff, 89, of Fair Haven, died Nov. 9, 2006. Born in New York City, he relocated to Fair Haven in 1954. He was an illustrator and cover artist specializing in scientific, genre, landscape and historical subjects for magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post, Life, Sports Illustrated, Field & Stream, as well as paperback covers and book illustrations. Mr. Meltzoff was renowned as the earliest and pre-eminent painter of saltwater gamefish, painting fish underwater for magazines such as Sports Illustrated and National Geographic. Prior to that, he taught painting at Pratt Institute, New York City. He served as a soldier, artist and journalist during World War II in North Africa, Italy and France, 1941-45. He received several medals and awards from the Society of Illustrators and Society of Animal Artists, and his works are owned by various museums and many private collections. An avid diver, he founded the first Jersey State Council of Divers. Mr. Meltzoff is survived by his wife, Diane Pogrant; two daughters Dr. Sarah Keene Meltzoff of Miami Shores Fla., and Annie Laurie Armistead of Davis, Calif.; and a brother Dr. Julian Meltzoff of La Jolla, Calif. Jennie Sheila Leszkiewicz Giguere
Mrs. Giguere, 73, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died Nov. 8, 2006. She was born in Claremont, N.H. A homemaker, she had been active in the Girl Scouts, volunteered to work polls during elections, and was active in the Special People United to Ride (SPUR) program in Lincroft. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Winfield Giguere; six daughters, Sheila Giguere of Miami, Jennifer Humann of Middletown, Jackie Hetrick of Arnold, Md., Wendy Spencer of Red Bank, Heidi Hughes of Lucas, Texas, and Amy Sherman of McKinney, Texas, two sisters, Ann Guthrie and Millie Whitney of Wilder, Vt.; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for summer 2007. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
Lloyd Charles Nelson
Mr. Nelson, 81, of Little Silver, died Nov., 8, 2006, at home. Born in Sioux Falls, S.D., he resided in Little Silver for 55 years. He was the current chairman of the board at Orion and Global Chartering Co. Inc., where he was employed since 1949 in positions such as vice president and president. He was a U.S. Coast Guard officer and ensign U.S. Navy Reserve with the U.S. Merchant Marines, and served as an officer on merchant vessels from 1945 to 1946. He was a life member of the Marine Law Association of the United States, a former director of the Society of Maritime Arbitrators of New York, and a member of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and Connecticut. Mr. Nelson was predeceased by a son, John Morgan Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Morgan Nelson; a sister, Naurine Snyder of Chandler, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Miltenberger of Little Silver; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. Joyce Adele Scales Johnson
Mrs. Johnson, 71, of Fair Haven, died Nov. 15, 2006, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Maplewood, she resided in Morristown before moving to Fair Haven 45 years ago. She was an assistant to her husband in a small company he owned. Prior to that, she was a secretary at Bell Telephone. She was a volunteer at a local library, her church, and the Election Board. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by a sister, Carol E. Smeaton of Salem, S.C. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Anthony "Andy" T. Johnson; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary T. and Nancy Johnson; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn C. and Mark Timmons; and two grandchildren. Samantha Richards Kiely
Miss Kiely, 17, of Little Silver, died Nov. 13, 2006, at home. She attended programs at Family Resource Associates, Shrewsbury, and Children's Center of Monmouth County. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Helen B. and Harry R. Jeter. Miss Kiely is survived by her parents, Ann and Craig Kiely; a sister, Patrice; two brothers, Russell and Stuart; her paternal grandparents, Vi and Tom Kiely of Rumson, and Burt Jeter of Dallas, Texas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. John W. Zeigler
Mr. Zeigler, 81, of Monmouth Beach, died Nov. 3, 2006, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Pompton Lakes, he resided in Cliffside Park, Verona, and in Naples, Fla., before moving to Monmouth Beach in April. Before his retirement in 1976, Mr. Zeigler was a self-employed food entrepreneur based in Moonachie. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Stalig 9B. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, John F. Zeigler of Secaucus, and Danny and Karen Zeigler of Rumson; a daughter, Diane Zeigler of Tinton Falls; a sister, Mary Wilholm of Arizona; and two granddaughters. Burial

Ann Marie Norton
Mrs. Norton, 75, of Red Bank, died at Riverview Medical Center Sept. 15 after a long struggle with emphysema. Her five children were at her side during the final weeks of her life. She was born Ann Marie Nowak on Feb. 27, 1931, to Anna and William Nowak in Floral Park, N.Y., and was later joined by two brothers, William and Robert, both whom currently reside on Long Island, N.Y. Ann followed her own passion for things well-made and lasting in her long affair with the antique business. She was also involved for many years in the social services in Red Bank, first as director of Mobile Wheels, and then as a volunteer for HABcore and Lunch Break. She was a lover of life, history, books, laughter, interesting stories, good people and good food and believed in enduring friendships, strong family and doing right by the world and the people in it. With her first husband, George Bowden, Ann had five children: Faith Moulton of Wyoming, Robert Bowden of Connecticut, Chris McClelland of New Mexico, Sue Bowden of Switzerland, and Lisa Bowden of Arizona. Ann later married
Donald Norton, an antiques dealer, who died in 1984. Ann is also survived by five grandchildren: Patrick, Sean, Hayley, Nick and Miles. A memorial service was held at The United Methodist Church on Broad Street in Red Bank Nov. 18.
James P. O'Connor
Mr. O'Connor, 82, of Middletown, died Nov. 14, 2006, at Riverview Medical Center Red Bank. He resided in Oceanport and Cedar Grove before moving to Middletown 13 years ago. Before his retirement, Mr. O'Connor was a salesman at Jon Bil Manufacturing, New York City. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was predeceased by a son, James P. O'Connor Jr., in 1984. Mr. O'Connor is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma; a daughter, Lorianne O'Connor of Upper Montclair; and a sister, Eileen Mulrane. A Mass of Christian Burial

Patrick Joseph Shaffery
Mr. Shaffery, 73, of Oceanport, died Nov. 24, 2006, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he resided in Oceanport for 43 years. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Little Silver, where he was employed 35 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a communicant of the Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. He was a member of the Port-au-Peck Fire Company, Oceanport, an exempt fireman, and ex-chief of the Oceanport Fire Department. He was also a charter member of the Oceanport Waterways Committee. He enjoyed woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Arthur and Bernard Shaffery; a sister, Loretta Becker; and a granddaughter, Alexa. He is survived by his wife of 42 yeas, Wilhelmina Hessels Shaffery; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Patrick Shaffery, and Daniel and Stephanie Shaffery, all of Oceanport, and Mark and Doreen Shaffery of Howell; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Eleanor Shaffery of Middletown; and four grandchildren.
