Johanna Maloney Fennell Cain
Mrs. Cain, 93, of Matawan died Dec. 16 at Bayshore Healthcare Center, Holmdel. Born in Bona Vista Bay, Newfoundland, Canada, she came to New York City and resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Matawan in 1977. Mrs. Cain was a homemaker. She was a former communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. She was a member of the Leisure Timers, a charter member of Minnisink Village Senior Club, and a member of the Sunshine Girls, all at Minnisink Village, Matawan. She was predeceased by a son, Donald Maloney, in 1966; a daughter, Rita Marney, in 1987; her first husband, Richard Maloney, in 1970; and her second husband, John Ralph Cain, in 1978. Mrs. Cain is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Cathy Maloney of Brooklyn; four daughters, Marie McPartlin of Melbourne, Fla.; Irene McGrath of Red Bank; Diane Long of Aberdeen, Md.; and Janet Briggs of Freehold Township; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jose Fennell of Bona Vista Bay, Newfoundland; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of St. Robert Bellarmine, Freehold Township. Interment
was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia.
Ruth Kahree
Mrs. Kahree, 89, of Manalapan died Dec. 9 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in Woodbridge, she had lived there before moving to Freehold and then Manalapan, where she resided for the past four years. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold. Prior to retiring, she was a secretary for the Woodbridge Township Board of Education, of which she was also a former member. She was predeceased by her husband, Irving, in 1993. Surviving are two daughters, Gail Thorpe of Manalapan and Merle Kahree of San Francisco; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
Alfred W. Adams
Mr. Adams, 60, of Jackson, formerly of Sayreville, died Dec. 9 at home. He was a math and computer teacher at Cedar Ridge High School, Old Bridge. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Adams; a daughter, Toby Adams of Freehold; his mother, Anna Ankudowicz of West Melbourne, Fla.; and a sister, Eleanor DeLucia of Manahawkin. A service was held at C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell. Interment

James T. Conover
Mr. Conover, 43, of Keyport died Dec. 12 at home. Surviving are a son, Christopher James Conover of South Carolina; a daughter, Nicole Conover, also of South Carolina; his mother, Eileen Hogan Conover of Keyport; two sisters, Kelly Switzer of Sayreville and Sandra Conover of Virginia; a brother, Scott Conover of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey; and two nieces and two nephews. A service was held at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Interment
was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover.
Edward L. Grobelny
Mr. Grobelny, 76, of Sayreville died Dec. 15 at home. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed as a laborer by the Sayreville Public Works Department. Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Rose Grobelny of Edison and Katherine Grobelny of Sayreville; and three nieces, Lorraine "Lori" Grobelny of Edison and Georgette Grobelny and Mary Ann Grabowski, both of Sayreville. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment
was in the church cemetery.
Aileen K. Ruffley
Mrs. Ruffley, 64, of Old Bridge died Dec. 14 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Prior to her retirement in 2001, she was an Old Bridge Township Council stenographer for 25 years. Surviving are her husband, Michael; a daughter, Patricia Bates of Silver Spring, Md.; a son, Edward Leib of Old Bridge; a stepdaughter, Patricia Norway of East Brunswick; her stepmother, Stella Kelly of Massachusetts; a sister, Maureen Condon of Northport, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment

Joseph V. Russell
Mr. Russell, 97, of South Amboy died Dec. 12 at his daughter’s home in the Morgan section of Sayreville. Prior to his retirement in 1976, he was employed as a mechanical engineer at E.I. DuPont and Co., Parlin section of Sayreville, where he worked for 50 years. He was a founding member of the South Amboy First Aid Squad. His wife, Marie L. Rattigan Russell, died in 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Russell of Morgan and Louise Russell of South Amboy; and two sisters, Anna Moore of Spotswood and Pearl Zupko of Massachusetts. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Interment
was in the church cemetery.
Lillian Catherine Mary McAlarney Sloan
Mrs. Sloan, 77, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, formerly of South Amboy, died Dec. 10 at her daughter’s home in Howell. She was a registered nurse. Prior to her retirement in 1992, she worked for 44 years for Dr. Severino J. Ambrosio, Parlin, and at the Memorial Medical Center at South Amboy. She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald Sloan. Surviving are six daughters, DiAnne Sloan-Dowdy of Tuckerton, Eileen Applegate of Laurel, Del., Gail Sloan of Parlin, Virginia Paffard of Madison Heights, Va., Lillian Muroski of Brick and Nancy Ordner of Howell; a son, John Sloan of Parlin; a sister, Audrenne Buff of South Amboy; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bernadette’s Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Entombment was in Forest Green Park Mausoleum, Old Bridge.
George H. Toth
Mr. Toth, 73, of South River died Dec. 9 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was a research technician at E.I. DuPont, Parlin section of Sayreville, where he worked for many years. His wife, Dorothy Dudzinski Toth, died in 1985. Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Olinger of Northbridge, Mass.; a brother, Charles Toth of the Long Valley section of Washington Township; and a grandson. Frank Tremmer
Mr. Tremmer, 69, of East Brunswick, formerly of South River, died Dec. 6 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement, he owned the Riverfront Bar and Rooming House, South River. Surviving are a daughter, Dawn Tremmer of Sayreville; a son, Tod Tremmer of Old Bridge; and several brothers and sisters in Hungary. Services were held at Kurzawa Funeral Home, Sayreville. Interment

Mrs. Whyte, 52, of Sayreville died Dec. 13 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. She was a volunteer at Our Lady of Victories School, Sayreville, and at Cardinal McCarrick High School, South Amboy. Surviving are her husband, Glenn G. Whyte; a daughter, Pamela Spencer of Voorhees; two sons, Glenn C. Whyte and Nicholas Whyte, both of Sayreville; a sister, Josephine Petracco of Caldwell; and a brother, John Finnerty of Roselle Park.
