Ms. Press, 75, of Marlboro died Sept. 20 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided in Marlboro for two years. She was a sales associate for Macy’s department store in Brooklyn for 20 years, before retiring in 1996. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry, in 1996. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Sandra Press of Matawan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and Don Fletcher of Queens, N.Y., Fran and Stephen Durante of Marlboro, and Donna and Tom Lacorazza of Marlboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Pat Passalaqua of Staten Island; a sister, Rose Bresnick of Santee, Calif.; and nine grandchildren. A memorial gathering was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan. Vincent G. Nappi
Mr. Nappi, 87, of Freehold Township, died Sept. 24 at Applewood Estates, Freehold Township. Born in Newark, he had lived in Freehold Township since 1983, spending the winters in Boynton Beach, Fla. For 20 years, Mr. Nappi was a postman for the Newark Post Office. He then became the supervisor of mail at the Essex County Court House until his retirement in 1983. During World War II, he served as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army. He is survived by a brother, Gerard Nappi of Freehold Township; and three nieces, including Barbara Tomczak of Freehold Township. A funeral Mass was held at the C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia, followed by interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair.
Salvatore Seminerio
Mr. Seminerio, 74, of Howell died Sept. 24 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Howell 10 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church in Howell. He was a carpenter for Local Union 608 in Manhattan, N.Y., for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; a son and daughter-in-law, William Joseph and Ruth Seminerio of Sumner, Wash.; a daughter and son-in-law, LuAnn and Bryan Epstein of Howell; and two granddaughters. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Veronica’s Church, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Pinelawn, N.Y. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
John B. Pickens Jr.
John B. Pickens Jr., 55, of Clarksburg died Sept. 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Dallas, Texas, he lived in the Millstone-Freehold area for over 25 years. He was employed as a purchasing manager for Old Bridge Chemical Co. A Navy veteran of the Vietnam era, he was an avid deep sea fisherman. Son of the late John B. Sr. and Eva Jane Guill Pickens, he is survived by his wife, Maureen C. Pickens; a son, Jon Marcus Pickens of Clarksburg; two daughters, Jessica M. Pickens of Clarksburg and Asha Lynn King of Houston, Texas; and a stepmother, Mary Pickens of Houston. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown. Cremation was private.
Dorothy Punk
Mrs. Punk, 75, of Imlaystown died Sept. 20 at home. Born and raised in Elizabeth, she lived there until moving to Upper Freehold Township in 1950. A graduate of Battin High School, Elizabeth, she worked for Bell Telephone. She was a member of St. John’s Church, Allentown. Predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Joan Punk, and a son, Albert Michael Punk, she is survived by her husband of 53 years, Albert Punk; a son, John S. Punk of Cream Ridge; two sisters, Anna Ritter of Cranbury and Marie Peterla of Columbus; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. John’s Church. Cremation was private, with the Peppler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3076 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville 08648.
Gloria Riepe
Mrs. Riepe, 74, of Manalapan died Sept. 5 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Jersey City, she lived there most of her life before moving to the Covered Bridge section of Manalapan two years ago. Mrs. Riepe was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, and a former communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City. She was a member of the Christian Neighbors of Covered Bridge. Mrs. Riepe is survived by her husband, William; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Joanne Riepe of Howell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Veronica and Ted Daniels, and Suzanne and Richard Weisman, all of Manalapan; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More Church, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Frank Mastromarino
Mr. Mastromarino, 79, of Englishtown died Sept. 8 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived there until moving to Englishtown 38 years ago. Mr. Mastromarino was a truck driver for The Racing Form in Hightstown before retiring in 1996. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the European Theater of Operations and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post 54, Freehold. Mr. Mastromarino is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Frank Jr. of Englishtown; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ed Zachmann of Freehold; two brothers, Vito of Barnegat and John of Staten Island, N.Y.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary and Harold Sherman of Massapequa, N.Y., and Lily Gouvernel of Jackson; two grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Angelo M. Valentino
Mr. Valentino, 82, of Long Branch died Sept. 8 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he relocated to Long Branch in 1922. Mr. Valentino co-owned and operated a business with his family, which began in 1910 and operated for almost nine decades. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received seven decorations and citations as a member of the 89th Infantry Division of the Third Army. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and choir. His memberships included the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 742, the Amerigo Vespucci Society, the Italian American Memorial Association, and the American Legion, Long Branch. He was also an officer and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2795, Long Branch, and served as an officer and past president of the American Federation of Musicians Local No. 399, Long Branch. He and his brother founded a band in the 1930s and won a gold medal at the 1939 World’s Fair. He played and enjoyed music with his friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Ossino Valentino; and two brothers, Salvatore and Frank Valentino. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph T. and Carole Valentino of Oceanport, and Alfred J. and Anne Valentino of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie Ann and Edward J. Johnson of Howell; two brothers, Louis and Charles Valentino, both Long Branch; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Long Branch, followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
William Thompson
Mr. Thompson, 50, of Manalapan died Sept. 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Neptune, he was a lifelong resident of Manalapan. He was the owner of G.E. Thompson & Son Inc. in Manalapan and a member of Freehold Elks Lodge No. 1454. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a brother, George Thompson of Freehold; and one stepsister. Graveside services were held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan, with funeral arrangements under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.
