Helen E. Burke Spinler
Helen E. Burke Spinler, 52, of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, died Sept. 16 at Union Hospital, Union. Born in Jersey City, she resided in South Brunswick and South Amboy before moving to Laurence Harbor nine years ago. She was employed at Gund Inc., Edison. Prior to that, she worked at Tingley Rubber Corp., South Plainfield, for 24 years. She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Laurence Harbor, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was predeceased by her father, James Burke, in 1985. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Dustin Scott of Quakertown, Pa.; her mother, Pauline Burke of Laurence Harbor; her brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Patricia Burke of South Plainfield; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Catherine Burke of Laurence Harbor, and Marian and Peter Stamatis of Sayreville; and six nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Lawrence church. Interment
was at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Arrangements were by The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy.
James G. Varga
James G. Varga, 84, of North Brunswick died Sept. 7 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick, he resided in Old Bridge for 15 years before moving to North Brunswick in 1984. He was a machine operator at Permacel Tape Corp., North Brunswick, for 48 years, retiring in 1986. He was predeceased by a son, James A. Varga, in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Mondi Varga of North Brunswick; four sons, Richard Varga of Plainsboro, Wayne Varga of East Windsor, Thomas Varga of North Brunswick, and Anthony Varga of Merrimack, N.H.; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.
Joseph DeLouise Jr.
Joseph DeLouise Jr., 81, of Manalapan died Sept. 13 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in New Haven, Conn., he lived in Flushing and Whitestone, N.Y., before moving to Manalapan 28 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Manalapan. A World War II Army veteran, he was a film booker and buyer for General Cinema Theater before retiring, and a member of the Motion Picture Bookers Club of New York City. He is survived by his wife, Judith; a son, David of Manalapan; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth DeLouise and Brad Kollus of Monmouth Junction; two brothers, Edward and Raymond DeLouise, both of Conn.; and three sisters, Libertina Adams, Julie Diordano and Louise Leopold, all of Conn. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
Rita Ragosa
Rita Ragosa, 62, of Manalapan died Sept. 13 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Italy, she lived in Jersey City before moving to Manalapan 26 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Manalapan. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugenio, in 2002. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Emilio and Maria Ragosa of Howell and David Ragosa and his fiancée, Maria, of Manalapan; two daughters and a son-in-law, Laura and Marc Steinberg of Spotswood, and Susanna Ragosa and her fiancé, Brett, of Manalapan; a brother, Emilio Granata of Jackson; five sisters, Maria Sellitto of Bayonne, Filomena Fasolino of Carlstadt, Angelina Marinelli of Bayonne, and Anna Fabbrocile and Gemma Costa, both of Jersey City; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Thomas More Church, Manalapan, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
Cleland R. Ortiz
Mr. Ortiz, 72, of Jamesburg died Sept. 25 in the University Medical Center at Princeton. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Linke Ortiz; a daughter, Susan Ortiz of Jamesburg; two brothers, Donald Ortiz of Monroe and Philip Orten of Loris, S.C.; and a sister, Beverly Fucarino of Loris. A service was held at Lester Memorial Home, Jamesburg. Interment
was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Martin K. Segal
Mr. Segal, 73, of Monroe, formerly of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick, died Sept. 26 in St. Francis Hospital, Trenton. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was a salesman for Roadway Trucking Co., Somerset section of Franklin, for many years. He then worked as a driver for Ray Catena Mercedes, Edison, for five years. He attended the University of Miami and received a bachelor’s degree in communications. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Fineman Segal. Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Eileen Wolk Segal; two sons, Howard, and his wife, Laura, of Wyoming and Andrew and his wife, Kim, of Edison; three stepchildren, Gary Spector and his wife, Liz, of Hoboken, Barbara Drew and her husband, Joseph, of Monroe and Tina Rear and her husband, David, of Flagtown, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Interment

Michael A. Ventola
Mr. Ventola, 80, of Palm City, Fla., and formerly North Brunswick, died Dec. 14 at Martin Memorial Hospital, Stuart, Fla. Born in Newark, he resided in Fords and North Brunswick prior to retiring to Palm City in 1988. He was the owner/operator of Ventola’s Circle Citgo, North Brunswick, for 20 years, retiring in 1988. Prior to that, he was the superintendent of the New Jersey Turnpike for Cities Service Oil Co. for 20 years, and was instrumental in raising funds for New Jersey state troopers killed on the turnpike while on duty. He served with the U.S. Army and was in combat on D-Day. He was the recipient of a Presidential Citation, and battle stars for D-Day, the Battle of St. Lo, Battle of the Bulge, and seven other battle stars. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Clark Moetz Post No. 2319, Milltown, and Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a founding member of the Sons of Italy, Sgt. John Basilone Lodge No. 25881, South River, and the North Brunswick Booster Club. He was predeceased by seven brothers, Micale, Samuel, Anthony, Peter, Gerardo, Carmine and Armando; and three sisters, Helen Rizzo, Anna Lupiano and Maggie Lupiano. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette T. Guarino Ventola; his son, Mark Ventola of Robbinsville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Denise L. Ventola of the Dayton section of South Brunswick, and Janice and Peter Braconi of Monroe Township; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vincent and Barbara Guarino of Ortley Beach, and Lawrence and Dorothy Guarino of Union; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be Dec. 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick. A funeral service will be Dec. 20 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick. Burial will be at Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick.
Evelyn Stellato
Mrs. Stellato, 77, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died Oct. 16 at the Montgomery Care Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived there before moving to Morganville two years ago. She was predeceased in 1987 by her husband, Thomas Stellato. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Kim Stellato of Brooklyn; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Joseph Nappi of Morganville; a brother, Leonard Rifkin of Florida; and five grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge, with Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, in charge of arrangements.
Edwin Lewis LeBright
Mr. LeBright, 95, of Marlboro died Oct. 6 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Marlboro. Born in Maspeth, N.Y., he was one of six boys and had resided in Freehold Township before moving to Marlboro. He was employed as an engineer for Bell Laboratories, Whippany, for almost 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Waddell LeBright of Freehold; a daughter, Joyce Schaan of Freehold; a son, Ronald LeBright of Sea Bright; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by cremation, which was private.
