Sally Ann Revello Brown

Mrs. Brown, 61, of Middletown, died Aug. 8 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Belleville, she resided in Irvington, prior to moving to Middletown in 1977. She was a driver at Shamrock Stagecoach Bus Lines, Keansburg. Prior to that, she was a sales associate at Sears, Middletown, and a home health aide for MCOSS, Red Bank. She is survived by her husband, Robert Brown; three daughters, Sherry Ann Brown of Point Pleasant, Alisa Ann Brown of Middletown, and Linda Marie Napolitano of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township; and four grandchildren. The funeral service will be Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, followed by burial at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet.

Elizabeth N. Doughty

Mrs. Doughty, 87, of Red Bank, died Sept. 18 at home. She resided in Little Silver before moving to Red Bank in 1976. She was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Children's Hospital of Boston, and was a registered nurse during World War II. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank - Tower Hill. Mrs. Doughty was predeceased by a brother, Carl E. Nason Jr. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, S. Lewis Doughty; a son, Samuel Lewis Doughty III of Shamokin Dam, Pa.; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Anne D. Merry of Point Pleasant, Martha D. and Samuel L. Capino of Yorktown, Va., Susan D. and James R. Barnette of Woodbridge, Va., and Sarah S. Doughty of College Park, Md.; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank - Tower Hill, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank 07701.

Mary McCue Davis

Mrs. Davis, 90, of Batavia, N.Y, died Sept. 16 at United Memorial Hospital, Batavia. She was born in Long Branch. Before her retirement, she was head nurse in the emergency room at Monmouth Memorial Hospital, Long Branch. She was also a public health and private duty nurse. She served as an instructor in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Batavia, N.Y., where she was a member of its Ladies of Charity and Legion of Mary. Mrs. Davis was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Richard F. Davis, in 2005; a brother, Joseph McCue; and two sisters, Carrie McGuire and Grace Leonard. She is survived by a son, Gerard J. Davis of Medina, N.Y.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Ellen Davis of Batavia, N.Y., Carol Ann and Richard Biniek of Shakopee, Minn., and Dr. Elizabeth Davis and Dr. Michael Marino of East Amhurst, N.Y.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Theresa McCue of Red Bank, and Thomas and Mary Lou McCue, and Vincent and Mary McCue, all of Long Branch; four sisters, Eleanor Hayes and Teresa McCue, both of Long Branch, Elizabeth Paschetto of Shrewsbury, and Sara Wichmann of Little Silver; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass was held at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Arrangements were by Gilmartin Funeral Home, Batavia, N.Y.

John R. "Jack" Crothers

Mr. Crothers, of Shrewsbury, died Sept. 21 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident of Monmouth County. He was a pipefitter with Local 9. He was a member of All Saints Memorial Episcopal Church, Locust section of Middletown. Mr. Crothers served as chairman of the Shrewsbury Democratic Party and was a former president and sergeant-at-arms for the Monmouth County Central Labor Council, and a former candidate for the mayor of Shrewsbury. He was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Crothers; two daughters, Debbie and Kathy Crothers; a grandson, Bill Scullion; and a brother, James Crothers. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Margaret E. "Peggy" Crothers; two daughters, Michelle "Shelli" Crothers and Kimie Crothers, both of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township; a son-in-law, Celso "Junior" Gonzalez of Oakhurst; his stepchildren, Heidi Jackson of Venice, Calif., Robert "Bobby" Jackson of Marina Del Ray, Calif., and Heather Jackson Silverman and her husband, Brian, of New York City; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Joan Wynberg of Orlando, Fla., Pat and Rich Sydnor of Upper Nyack, N.Y., and Marilyn Guilford of Wall; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held at All Saints Church. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to the Parker Family Health Center, 211 Shrewsbury Ave., Red Bank 07701.

Bruce George Whitenack

Mr. Whitenack, 81, of Tinton Falls, died Sept. 21. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Orange, prior to moving to Tinton Falls in 1956. He was a manager of human resources at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Navy as an Ensign stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury. He volunteered at the Tinton Falls Public Library, and enjoyed playing bridge, his dogs, reading and walking. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert; and a grandson, Kyle Michael. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Katherine; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce G. and Joanne Whitenack Jr., John C. and Cheryl Whitenack, and Douglas M. and Lynda Whitenack; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at The Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to The Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, 352 Sycamore Ave., Shrewsbury 07702.

Peter Kusulas

Mr. Kusulas, 65, of Fair Haven, died Sept. 6. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Tottenville, N.Y.; Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and Colts Neck; prior to moving to Fair Haven. He was an electrical engineer and engineering manager at Bell Labs, Naperville, Ill., later Lucent Technologies, Holmdel, from 1963-2000, and began work on the earliest digital telephone system designed for customer premises. Following retirement, he chaired the Borough of Fair Haven Long Range Planning Committee, and was a member of the mayor's World War II Monument and Finance Committees. HE is survived by his wife, Rose Greco; two brothers, Elias Kusulas of Naperville, Ill., and Theodore Kusulas of Whitestone, N.Y.; two nieces; and a nephew. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Robert Acerra

Mr. Acerra, 64, of Middletown, died Oct. 2 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Before his retirement in 2006, Mr. Acerra worked in several restaurants in Monmouth County and then opened the first of five Luigi's Famous Pizza Restaurants in 1969. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Middletown. He was instrumental in forming the Boys Youth Athletic Association (BYAA), Middletown. Mr. Acerra is survived by his wife, Diane Healey Acerra; two sons, Robert Acerra Jr. and Domenick Acerra, both of Middletown; three stepsons, Glen, Brian and Eric School, all of Middletown; two brothers, Ralph Acerra of Freehold and Joseph Acerra of Tinton Falls; a sister, Joan Marangello of Middletown; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Middletown.

Catherine "Cay" Soyer

Mrs. Soyer, 71, of Freehold, died Oct. 8 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She resided in Queens, N.Y., prior to relocating to Freehold seven months ago. She was an executive assistant at Allen & Company, New York City, retiring in 2005. She attended the Church of St. Ignatius, New York City. She was a former member of the Malba Women's Club, and Garden Club, Queens. She is survived by her husband, Frank Perricone; two sons and daughters-in-law, Colin and Maura of Oceanport, and Adam and Renate of Kingston, N.Y.; a daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Roger of New York City; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at Church of The Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Arrangements are by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1005 Fifth Ave., New York City, NY 10028.

Janice A. Manganello

Mrs. Manganello, 63, of Manalapan, died Oct. 4 at Rahway Hospital, Rahway. Born and raised in Brick, she had lived in Jersey City before moving to Manalapan 24 years ago. She was a secretary for the S.G.S. Communities construction company, Manalapan, for many years. She was also a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Englishtown. Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Anthony Sr.; a son, Anthony Jr. of Manalapan; three brothers, Charles, Hoppy and Paul Sherman, all of Brick; and three sisters, Tracy Sherman of West Virginia, and Judy and Gay Sherman, both of Brick. A funeral liturgy was offered at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.

Joel Opatut

Mr. Opatut, 82, of the West End section of Long Branch, died Sept. 23 at home. He was a Holocaust survivor. Born in Szadek, Poland, he arrived in the United States with his wife and son in 1949. He and his brothers purchased a chicken farm in Freehold, which became Colonial Foods Inc. He was the chairman of Colonial Foods/Colonial Marketing Associates, Freehold Township, and a director of American Planned Communities. Mr. Opatut was a member of Temple Beth El, Oakhurst. He was the donor of the Joel Opatut Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, and a founder of Congregation Sons of Israel, Lakewood. Freehold Township's Opatut Park was named in his honor for his donation of 136 acres. He was predeceased in 1977 by his wife, Frances. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Abraham S. and Susan Opatut of Freehold Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Bernard Hammer of Lakewood, and Toby and Steven Rofsky of Freehold Township; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and special friend Rachel Troper. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Shiva was observed at his former residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Joel Opatut Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center at Monmouth Medical Center, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch 07740.
